The Seattle Seahawks announced yesterday that Matt Flynn will start at quarterback this Saturday against the Titans. The Titans, however, have yet to name a starter for the game. I would expect that announcement to come sometime today.
There is little doubt in my mind that Matt Hasselbeck will be the starter. That really isn't a reflection on how the competition is going.
I am very interested to see how both guys play in these first couple of preseason games. Jake Locker probably gets the start in the second game at Tampa so the coaching staff can see what he can do against their first team defense.
I will say again, that this job is not going to be determined by camp and preseason numbers. This is all about Jake Locker and whether or not he is ready to take on the job. If he proves that to them in practice, scrimmages, preseason games and meeting rooms, he will be your starter against the Patriots.
