What we saw in the first 2 preseason games was a collapsing pocket. Our O-Line last year left a lot to be desired, and after some injuries this year, we are very thin up front. Now Matty is a pocket passer, and a damn good one. But when the pocket collapses, well, he doesn't have much of a chance. Jake, on the other hand, is young, fast & mobile. If the pocket collapses on him, which it will, he can scramble out and still make some good things happen outside of the pocket. Now, I can hear you saying, "C'mon man, it's preseason...give em a chance". Well, if it was last year, I'd have said you're right. But not this year. This year they had the OTAs, they had a full camp, they had a lot more time to get it together. In fact, if you notice around the league...we're seeing some of the best "preseason" football we've seen in a long time. Heck, some of these teams look like they're in mid-season form already. No...until we fix our O-Line problems (which is gonna take more than adding Hutch, although that was a good move), we are gonna HAVE to have a mobile QB. We don't really have much of a choice.
