2012 NFL Mock Draft: The Titans and Kendall Wright, WR, Baylor
Russ Lande of The Sporting News has put out a new mock draft, and he has the Titans taking Kendall Wright of Baylor. After SuperHorn's post the other day, I am very intrigued by the idea of the Titans adding Wright to the mix. Here is what Lande had to say about the pick:
With Kenny Britt recovering from a torn ACL, the Titans must find a big-play receiver to open up their offense and pull defenders away from the line to give Chris Johnson room to work.
I am generally against putting too much stock in combine numbers, but the only thing that makes Wright a good fit for the Titans is if he can run. That is why the 40 time is so important for Wright when put in the context of what the Titans need to really make this offense take off in 2011. I will spare you another "imagine the offense with," but I will say that Wright could be that final piece that makes this offense dynamic.

I loved SuperHorns article and agree with his and your comments on adding a WR...
…I think Wright could possibly be the final piece in creating a very potent offense….IF
we add an OL in the second. The OL class is deep this year and lots of good talent in the second and third rounds. (I also hear the same being said for the DL class)
If we go WR, OL in the first two rounds we definitely need to get a DE in FA…. or WR or OL in FA and the other two in the draft.

I would LOVE this pick if I trusted Britt.
I think Wright is ideally suited for the No. 2 spot. He’s got great burst and was a tremendous receiver in college, but for whatever reason I don’t think he can be a true No. 1, though maybe I’m just hung up on the height.

It's definitely a concern.
I really like Kendall Wright, and think he can be a good player in this league. I’m just not sold enough to pull the trigger in round 1 yet. I think there’s plenty of value to be had for smaller, speedy receivers in rounds 2-5.
That said, it wouldn’t be the worst thing if the Titans took this kid.

I feel like we should draft a WR
Between, Locker, Palmer and Britt’s rubber band hamstrings- I would love to see another 1st round WR talent. If it was me, I would try to bring a DE in free agency- get a WR 1) and and OL #2 in the draft. We need to be solid on WR, I’m tried of worrying about it every Sunday.
I feel we need a WR because RB may become second fiddle to a Chris Palmer offense. He is a QB coach.
A pass minded guy. So if he can’t get creative with CJ, then we are gonna have to pass, pass, pass then give it to CJ when the D backs off.

OH YES PLEASE!
We can get him for cheap since he had a off season. And we can let Finny walk. Not to mention Routt is tops in terms of yards allowed. He is a awesome cover corner.

don't go into detail. I know we DO spend money in terms of our own players.
But we are not the team who makes a common splash in FA. Not that it’s a bad thing. It’s just true.

I was just thinking back to the good 'ol days,
when we drafted Matt Hasselbeck and Nate Washington.

Nate in 08 and Matt in 11. And i hardly call that a splash
Nate was a #3-4 wr and Matt was let go and past his prime. Next your gonna bring up Ruud
Lemme See Your HANDS!
I'd say going out and signing the top FA QB with a 3 yr/21 M deal counts as a splash.

And I believe Washington got somewhere in the neighborhood of $27 million for his deal.
Not a cheap FA by any means…I swear, people want us to spend $150 million on two guys every offseason thinking it will bring us a Lombardi Trophy.

I didn't say they came cheap. But i still hardly call that making a splash
Like i sid, im not dissing the Titans for it. We just don’t go out and sign big name players often. If your gonna bring up Nate and Matt as your examples, your crazy. Again, im not saying we need to be like the eagles or skins. Im just saying that’s the way we are. We aren’t typically in talks when it comes to big FA acquisitions
Lemme See Your HANDS!
And neither are the teams that have won Super Bowls over the past few years.
Hell, the Giants’ stud during the postseason was an UDFA pickup who developed in their system (Cruz). Again, winning the PR game by signing the “big name” guy doesn’t exactly translate to winning on the field and making a huge impact.
I’d much rather the team sign guys who can help and fit the system while also being financially responsible. Sure, I’d love to get Mario Williams and another big-name FA (non-QB) in here…but that would kill the cap situation here and how much will two big signings really do for this team when we’ve got more holes than that?

How'd making a splash workout for Philly this year?
How many of the Redskins’ “big splashes” made a huge impact for them, and how many rings do they have again? How many times have teams like the Packers, Saints and Patriots made a huge “splash” in FA?
Fans tend to get wrapped up in the big names and thinking that that ONE guy can instantly make the entire team immensely better. Better to win the FA game on the field than in the press (that is, sign guys who fit what you want to do that also make economic sense for your cap situation, rather than signing a Mario Williams to a huge contract just to get the press).

well, good Vet CBs
and young inexperienced Safeties will doom a team like that, since safety’s are like the QB#2 of the Defence

I agree....if the plan is to let Go of Finnegan who is coming off a great year for a guy who sucked last year.
“Routt, who’s never been an all-pro or Pro Bowler in his seven-year career, picked off four passes and made 49 tackles in 2011, but by most accounts is nowhere near the caliber of player Asomugha is.”

Finnegan is better than Routt. = Penny pinching = worse off.

So people want a guy that looked good when in tandem with the best corner in the league but much much worse without him there
I watch the Music City Miracle every time I visit MCM just because I can
Even without Nnandi, he was still above average in single coverage with a low yard allowed rate.
He suffered from some TDs however.

We have an above average corner already and he doesnt have a td problem he also is the heart and soul of our team
I watch the Music City Miracle every time I visit MCM just because I can
he also seems to be asking us to break the bank when he definitely doesn't deserve it.
And i wouldn’t say he is the heart of our team. We really don’t have that guy yet. On defense, Spoon is the leader while Nate leads the offense.
Lemme See Your HANDS!
What the...
He doesn’t deserve it? We broke the bank for CJ to have a completely useless season, at least this time we can do it for a good reason.

We broke the bank for a 2,000 yd rusher who has led the league in rushing yds since we drafted him
Finnegan is a one time pro bowler who has since declined. He had a better year this season but still not worth a huge contract.
Lemme See Your HANDS!
We broke the bank for CJ, and he had one of the worst years a running back could have.
So what’s with the lack of support over giving Finnegan his money? He can’t play any worse in 2012 than CJ did last season.

Routt was paid like 10 million this year. If he expects anywhere even near that, then this move makes no sense. Resign Finnegan.
If he can be gotten for 5 or 6 mil, then I like the move.

Agreed.

My guess is that they'd be willing to pay as much as 8-9 million.
Right in the range they were looking at Finnegan for. I think Finnegan wants 10+, and if Routt wants that, he won’t be getting it from the Titans. But considering Reinfeldt and Webster were comfortable with 8M for Finn, I think they’d offer him at least that.

Maybe I'm naive, but if Finnegan wants around 10 and the FO feels comfortable giving him 8...can they not agree on 9? c'mon man
by NoMoreMustache on Feb 9, 2012 11:52 PM CST up reply actions
The belief (and this is from NewsToTom) is that they offered 8 and would agree to 9 (since you always start lower), but that Finn's side is firmly going 10+.

We could create misfit clones of Lavelle Hawkins and make him play every receiving position and our WR’s would still be better than our interior line.
