Well look who is on the clock its the LA Sparkling Kitties, Jaguars. Finishing 5-11 with a win over the Titans (opening week after a lockout) and the Ravens on MNF. In the 2011 draft they picked Blaine "Sunshine" Gabbert in the 1st round with the 10th pick. Jury is still out on Gabbert and he is a 1st round pick they won't be worried about a QB, but 2013 draft is still open. MJD is their only offensive play-maker. Their was better than people would believe which is common for any AFC South team not named the Colts.

They desperately need offensive help

But the next best receiver is Michael Floyd and I don’t think he’ll go in the top ten. Coples adds another dimension to the Jag’s defense and gives them a better pass rush, adding more-or-less the final piece to what should become a great front 4.

Bring it on down to PEGULAVILLE!

Gene Smith needs a scapegoat, and Mike Williams is already considered a bust.

So for pride and job security “Ole Mean Gene” reaches for the guy that will theoretically “unbust” Sunshine. Michael Floyd. Also, they were ranked 32nd in offense last year.

We all know that JAC's

WR depth is beyond the worse in the league; will Floyd really turn out to be their #1 WR longterm?

by titanwarrior1 on Feb 9, 2012 1:04 PM CST up reply actions

Who knows?

But he’s far better than anyone they currently have on their roster. So unless they address WR in FA, I think they’ll try to get Sunshine a go to guy.

Not happening.

For mock purposes, fine. Gene Smith may be the biggest “character” drafter in the league, no way he takes someone with even a hint of possible trouble signs.

TRADE: Bengals trade up, giving the Jaguars the 17th and 21st picks.

With the 7th pick of the draft, the Bengals select RB Trent Richardson, Alabama.

by infinitystealth on Feb 9, 2012 10:03 AM CST reply actions

I thought it'd be an interesting scenario.

The Bengals need a RB, and with Trent Richardson, they would have a deadly young trio in AJ Green, Andy Dalton and Richardson. I understand that some people are saying that Richardson may fall to the 17th pick, but he is way too talented to fall that low. There is bound to be a team that really wants him and willing to use a first rounder. With this trade, the Bengals can leapfrog some of these RB needy teams, including Chiefs, Seahawks, Jets.

by infinitystealth on Feb 9, 2012 10:08 AM CST up reply actions

would the jags really accept that trade?

they are a WOEFULLY untalented team

CIN maybe, not KC or SEA

will not have to make any trade for Trent. He will be lucky to make the first round. I see NE taking him, personally. CIN is the most likely suitor for Trent but I don’t see it. KC will not take a RB that early. JC states he is stronger than he was two years ago. They have bigger needs on Defense & Offensive line. SEA’s Lynch had a career year in 2011 & I doubt they will waist it on RB when they need QB/LB more than they need another back.

Richardson will be drafted by TB, if not, then CIN, then NE.

by titanwarrior1 on Feb 9, 2012 12:56 PM CST up reply actions

He will be lucky to make the first round.

Lucky? He is one of the most talented players in this year’s draft, if not the most. There is no way that he won’t go in the first round. Teams realize that RBs like him don’t come out too often.

Also, if the Bengals realize that he is the guy they want (just like we did with Locker), and if they are threatened that other teams above them may draft Richardson, then they should go right ahead and trade up to get him. They already have a good defense, and we can see what a team with a solid QB, WR AND RB can do. The Saints (best offense IMO this year) and Eagles (at the end of this season and last season) are the best examples. Teams had no answer for them. Even teams with a solid defense, like the 49ers, could not stop the Saints from getting 30 points, even with their 5 turnovers, because of their explosiveness.

I am kinda rambling here, but all I am trying to say is that Bengals should trade up if there is even a little doubt that Richardson is not available at 17. Will it happen, I dont know, but it is worth a suggestion. Honestly, I think that in the end, Richardson will be a top 10 pick, no matter what people say about him dropping.

by infinitystealth on Feb 9, 2012 2:02 PM CST up reply actions

Also, Seattle don't have Lynch signed, so I have RB as a need for them until/if they do resign him.

I’m not sure if KC want to rely their backfield solely on Charles. We saw how it played out this past year, their RBs were dreadful. Ranked 28th in YPC. Also, we have seen how much success they did have when playing with 2 good RBs: Charles and Thomas Jones (before his rapid decline this year). Plus, Charles is coming off an ACL injury I believe, and no matter what the player says, we cannot say for sure if he can come back to 100% in his first season back. It is usually the case that players with ACL injuries usually have an off first season back before getting back their speed, cutting abilities, and agility in their second year off from the injury. This is why we need to be careful with Britt and not expect too much, as he might be limited this upcoming year, and why we should bring in a WR this year (Britt’s injury proneness, he is limited from his injruy, and that we don’t have anyone who can take over games after him).

Courtney Upshaw, LB Alabama

No more double position picks or drafting upon need as Del Rio is GONE! I feel a shocker pick here.

Jonathan Martin, OT Stanford

“Smith is taking a homoclitic approach to Blaine Gabbert, so he’ll be willing to do everything in his power to make sure his young signal-caller succeeds. That means finding weapons and adding blockers. Both are equally paramount because Gabbert completely falls apart at the first hint of pressure, even closing his eyes on occasion when attempting a pass. It’s pretty pathetic.

The right side of the offensive line didn’t hold up for the Jaguars last year because right tackle Guy Whimper is a sieve. He’s a free agent anyway, and Jacksonville’s only alternative is someone named Cameron Bradfield. Bradfield did a decent job in two starts as a rookie, but was an undrafted free agent in 2011, so he can’t exactly be counted on with Smith’s job potentially on the line. "

World Series Champions 2011. Unbelievable. Tony LaRussa, you will be missed.

Jaguars go with a weapon for Gabbert that can stretch the field with elite size and vertical

Speed/ ability to separate is questionable, however, Gabbert needs someone to throw to.

I agree with Jeffrey now more than Coples

I see Coples dropping as most NC DE’s have dropped in the past. Del Rio is gone, but he has taken DE/DT for several past years. So why would they take another DE. JAC will take the best WR on the board! Jeffrey is better long-term than Floyd. Bad vote on this one….

by titanwarrior1 on Feb 10, 2012 3:44 PM CST up reply actions

Jaguar fan here...

I do not think the Jags will go WR in Round 1. Khan and Gene Smith will bolster the WR corps in FA with 1 or 2 big name WR’s. Even if they do not get a “great” WR in FA, I still don’t think Floyd, Jeffrey, Sanu or Wright are top 10 talent. So my guess is Coples, unless we can trade out.

CB is also a need since Mathis is a FA and coming off of a ACL tear.

Kirkpatrick might have been considered here if he didn’t get caught up. FS may also be thin if we lose Lowery to FA.

What about OL? Statistically your D is pretty sound. Why not add a top OL talent to help secure your line.

I heard Guy Whimper (horrible football name) was pretty bad last year.

Funny you should bring that up.

I see that you mentioned Bradfield earlier. I am very high on him and I think he will compete and possibly even start at RT next season. Whimper run blocks well, but couldn’t protect his mother if she was in the pocket. Have no clue why they continued to start him. Also, Eben Britton is set to return. He hasn’t really had a chance to progress due to nagging injuries. I wouldn’t mind a OL in the first but I think we can make pick that has a lot more value due to our other needs.

and did you rec someone on this thread?

I would take Coples.

I think we will retain Mincey or sign either Mario Williams or Cliff Avril. Knighton is pretty dominant and Alualu could be nasty if he can ever get that knee to heal. Mincey/Williams/Avril-Knighton-Alualu-Coples would be a great front 4 if Coples can pan out. Coples also played DT as well in college. We could interchange Alualu and him at LDE and 3-Tech DT. And no I did not rec anyone.
