2012 NFL Mock Draft: The Titans and Peter Konz, C, Wisconsin
Ryan Van Bibber of SB Nation has put out an updated 2012 NFL Mock Draft this morning, and he has the Titans taking Peter Konz, C, Wisconsin. It is interesting that this is one of the first mocks that I have seen with the Titans taking Konz. Here is what Van Bibber had to say about the pick:
Head coach Mike Munchak spoke pretty harshly about his offensive line, the unit he used to coach before his promotion. Konz is a big upgrade in the middle over Eugene Amano, who moved in from right guard last season*. Besides improving the center position, it gives Munchak some flexibility with his remaining linemen.
*Obviously that should read two seasons ago.
I like Konz, and I think he will make a very good NFL center, but the Titans should not spend this pick on an interior offensive lineman. They can find a guy who can step in and play right away in the second or third round.

This pick would make me swoon.
If we want a franchise offensive lineman, it makes sense to take one in the first round.

Gonna be fielded by Lorenzo Neal at the 25; he dishes it back to Wycheck; he throws it across the field to Dyson. 30, 40, 50, 40, 30, 20, 10, 5, endzone...touchdown, Titans! There are no flags on the field! It's a miracle! Tennessee has pulled a miracle! A miracle for the Titans!"

Yes. You would think Munchak would go for this pick.
He has a new, franchise qb to protect.

Pick Konz
then get Carl Nicks in FA. Roos | Nicks | Konz | Scott?| Stewart. That would be sick
Anybody but Scott.
I’d rather slide Amano or Konz to Guard and play the other at C than fool with Scott anymore.

Mark Barron
First post on MCM, been a lurker for a while.
I would jump all over Mark Barron with this pick, he is going to be a defensive force to reckon with. We can grab a great offensive lineman later in the draft and a FA wide receiver/d lineman (thinking Cliff Avril). I think with Jurrell Casey, Derrick Morgan, FA DE, and maybe Klug our dline would be ok and Barron would be an immediate upgrade to Michael Griffin who i thought was the biggest waste of space on our defense.
I like getting Barron with first pick...
…there are a lot more FA DE’s and OL’s out there than Safeties.
We should grab DE or OL in FA then draft the other in the second round.

I thought Munchak said defence in the first round. So surely we shouldnt care about anyone who's not a defender. I like Barron too
I watch the Music City Miracle every time I visit MCM just because I can
He's just saying that to throw people off...:-)

I've seen a few fan mocks having us take Konz.
I certainly wouldn’t complain about the pick, but if there’s a great defensive prospect available (Barron, or especially someone like Mercilus/Ingram) then I’d rather they take the defensive route.
My reasoning: I like the depth of the interior OL prospects in this draft. Later rounds hold Brewster and Jones at C, for instance.
That's what I'm saying!
We need to draft a DE in the 1st round I prefer Melvin Imgram,DE,South Carolina and get Mike Brewster,C,Ohio State in the 2nd. I also think we can get Branden Boykin,CB,Georgia in the 3rd to help the secondary as far a receivers I say get Posey,WR,Ohio State in the 4th or 5th great speed and can get the deep ball. JUST a thought how about Kearse,WR,Washington in the 7th already has worked with Locker.
Not a sexy pick but I'm a-okay with it.

I don't get that...
If an interior offensive lineman is the best player on the board at fifteen then you take him period. I’m not saying that interior offensive lineman will be the best player on the board then but if one is, you pass him up because you can get a potential starter in the second or third round.
That's why I said "if there's a great defensive prospect available"
Great, as in it’s not clear who the best one is between him and Konz. If that’s the case, then I’d rather have the defensive stud prospect because of the (ostensible) depth at OL the rest of the way as compared to the depth at DE (which is what I was meaning by “defensive player”).
Ostensible is an excellent choice of words, there.
I don’t know that there’s a lot of elite interior OL depth in this draft. I don’t know that there’s NOT that depth, but I think everyone’s just assuming there’s all kinds of great guards out there because of the “you can draft a great guard late!” attitude.

draft depth at a position is over rated
Getting THE guy for that pick at any position is the right idea.
