The two weeks of hype is almost over. The Super Bowl Sunday is one of the best days of the year. If you don't believe me, just ask the people that own Kroger. I was there earlier this afternoon and that place was an absolute mad house. The funny thing was pretty much everyone there was wearing some type of NFL paraphernalia, and a couple of people actually had a shirt or jersey on for the Giants or Patriots. I saw a couple of Eagles shirts and a couple of Bears shirts in addition to the normal amount of Titans stuff I would normally see around here.
As for the game, I said yesterday that my early inclination was to go with the Giants, but I have since changed my pick to the Patriots. JustinS suggested in the comments of that thread that you should probably pick opposite of me because of my playoff track record. It is hard to argue with that.

Not gonna lie, I really enjoyed Kelly Clarkson's national anthem. Good use of the kid's choir but not too much instrumentation.

He was quite literally parallel to the line, slowing down, and then it almost seemed like he changed his mind, or maybe he decided to let momentum carry him in, but if he can manage to completely change direction and slow down enough as he demonstrated, he has to make that play.

look at the replay again. He has so much time. He’s not even running ‘full speed,’ he’s looking down at the line the whole time calculating where to go down. I get its an in-the-moment play, but there is no doubt in my mind that is a selfish play.

all of those players are coached to wrap up the ballcarrier but can’t because of the speed of the game, shit happens and you sometimes don’t make the right play. seems like an innocent mistake that could’ve had disastrous consequences to me.

It was the correct call at that point.
Its a risk you have to take, or you’re resting your hopes on the sub-1% chance you block the kick.
What I thought was more questionable was the burned challenge and the decision not to use a timeout later on.

Good point on the other issues...but
had they held them to only a FG, then they wouldve had 20 seconds for Brady to get the Pats in field goal range to win the game, instead of 57 seconds to go 80 yards for a TD. I think 2 quick sideline passes for long FG may have been a decent option.

I think it was the right call.
Giants would have been able to run it down to about 20 seconds left, kick a FG to make it a TD-or-bust game, then do the kickoff (more time burned off the clock)
80-ish yards to go for the game-winning touchdown with 16-19 seconds left? Smarter to let them score with over a minute left making it a TD-or-bust game, then give Tom Brady one timeout and a minute to work with to win the game.

I have to think that a large part of it is instinct as well. after spending literally your entire life hearing about running through the hole at full speed and keeping your legs moving in order to get into the end zone, I feel like the last thing on his mind would be stopping.

There was a ton of talent on Manning's teams.
Because they were awful this year people forget the talent they had. Harrison, Wayne, Clark, James/Addai, Freeney, Mathis, blah blah blah.

no I remember the talent they had, but they’re nowhere near the same team without him there. were the roles reversed, all other things being equal, Brady would have one and Manning would have three.

Disagree.
Perhaps the rings would be closer, but Brady led those game winning drives. Manning, despite his prolific production, has more often than not come up short in big games.

I think Manning in Brady’s system would be downright lethal in any situation. I bet his shortcomings in the big moment would be minimized.

I don't know. I've just seen so many crucial INTs that I find it hard to believe.
I agree that Manning plus a better defense probably would have more rings, but I just can’t get over all those playoff failures, of which many were a result of poor decisions.
