2012 NFL Draft and the Tennessee Titans Links 2/23

Andrew Brandt of National Football Post has a really good column about some of the things that go on behind the scenes at the combine.
Frank Cooney of CBS Sports ranks his top 64 NFL Draft prospects. He has Justin Blackmon ranked ahead of Trent Richardson. I understand that running backs are not as valuable as the once were, but Richardson is a can't miss guy. Blackmon is very far from that.
Matt Bowen lists his group of prospects that stood out at the Senior Bowl that he will be watching in Indianapolis. One guy on his list is Harrison Smith, S, Notre Dame. Smith is the second best safety in this draft and seems to be quite a distant second from Mark Barron.
Doug Farrar's 10 to watch at the combine on defense includes a couple of interesting players in Janzen Jackson and Janoris Jenkins. We have talked about both guys and their issues at length. Look for both of them to put up really impressive numbers.

Richardson has a very tiny knee issue to deal with.

That, plus the fact running backs aren’t worth much, makes me question why someone would take him. Seriously, just take a mid round back.

Running Backs are so hard to get right, it seems.

And when you do get them right, sometimes they’re only good for 3 years. And in today’s NFL, their role is so diminished. It’s not hard for me to see ranking Blackmon over Richardson, all those things considered, even if Richardson is the safer pick.

If you could find another LeShawn McCoy or Ray Rice type, I'd say they would be worth of a first round pick...

but teams just don’t need early round RBs as much as they use to.

The thing is, you can find McCoys and Rices later. Both were second rounders.

Honestly in today’s NFL, it really doesn’t pay to take a RB in the first, especially top 10 ones.
