We all know that Chris Johnson is not going anywhere, but the back ups we do have are very below average. So with running back not being a major need would the Titans consider Rainey or James with a mid round pick, or maybe sign a free agent running back?
Chris Rainey has 396 carries, 2464 yards, and 13 touchdowns in his four year college career. The 5-9 174 pound running back from florida was the number 1 option for the Gators rushing attack. Rainey had 171 carries for 861 yard and 2 touchdowns in his Senior year. If the Titans draft him, CJ would have a viable backup who can produce on a similair level. this would allow for the Titans to give him a break when needed, and not run him into the ground i.e (Eddie George)
LaMichael James has 771 carries, 5083 yards, and 53 touchdowns in his four year college career. The 5-9 190 pound running back from Oregan has the same style of running as Chris Johnson. This year he ran for 1805 yards and 18 touchdowns in 13 Games. That is an impressive number considering his small stature. He was a big part of the Oregan offense that took them to the championship games last year.
I believe if we take one of them, that it would sure up our running back problem when/if Chris Johnson begins to decline sooner rather than later. Im we improve our backfield situation now, we would be set at running back for years to come. That way we can focus our much needed attention on our subpar defense.
