2012 NFL Draft and the Tennessee Titans Links 2/22

Here are some interesting draft stories from around the internet today:

Alshon Jeffery's high school football coach is certain Jeffery will impress at the combine. The writer of the article says Jeffery will either be viewed as a Larry Fitzgerald type or a Mike Williams type depending on what he runs. (h/t Mocking the Draft)

Rob Rang of CBS Sports looks at 5 underclassmen that under the radar but will light up the combine. There are a couple of cornerbacks on Rang's list that could be on the Titans radar in the middle rounds.

Wes Bunting has predictions on who will light up the combine. I hate Arkansas, but Joe Adams is a really intriguing player. He is another guy that could be a middle round steal for someone.

Doug Farrar highlights 10 offensive players to watch at this week's combine. Here is a name from Farrar's list to keep in mind as a mid-round interior lineman prospect- Amini Silatolu.

I"m suprised they contrast him as one or the other, when I see a bit of both in him.

I’ve said for a while now that Jeffery possesses the leaping ability of Fitzgerald. All you have to do is toss the ball in his general direction and I’m pretty confident he’ll beat out the CB for it. The weight comparison with Williams is also apt, and scares me quite a bit. I wish we knew more about his weight throughout the year.

I would be more interested in hearing what he played at (not what's listed, or rumoured)

just because it doesn’t seem like the extra weight affects him all that much. The combine often misleads people, for instance, if Jeffery weighs in really slender, does it mean anything? I don’t put much stock into it, because it means he decided to get in shape for the biggest interview of his life (and really, who wouldn’t?). On the flip side, if he weighs in extremely overweight, then he’ll be red-flagged by teams.

For a WR, I am really surprised to see weight being a concern

to me that just says he’s not focused or undisciplined. The amount of time you spend running routes, sprints, weight lifting, having trainers by your side, etc…

The weird thing is that I've read reports saying he works really hard.

Some of them are no doubt fluff pieces, but you still don’t usually see them with heavy dudes.

Unless he is trying to gain size then cut down?

I would think pre-combine his size would hold less stock then his 40 time – which he should be more concerned about.

If I were Webster, I'd be telling my scouts to find what weight he played at the whole year, and the cause of his weight.

He’s certainly not fast, but it didn’t hinder him that much on film. He will fail to separate on occasion, but he still played really well.

You’re right though, his 40 time will be a huge measuring stick.

Well you'd think a 6'4 234+ pound WR sprinting toward a 5'10 200 pound CB wouldn't nearly get jammed up that consistently

I saw that, and really cooled on Jeffery.

You don’t have to be a speedster, but if you’re not going to be, you need to be a big, strong player who can separate with his hands, and you need to have good initial burst.
