Eye On The Draft: NFL Week 5 Edition

Last week, the 5 guys I picked out were;

Dallas Thomas, Jarvis Jones, John Jenkins, Shawn Williams, and Kenny Vaccaro. The only person to do well on that list is Dallas Thomas. Who helped Tyler Bray and the UT offense put up 44 pts against a stout Georgia Unit. The Longhorns gave up a bunch of points to OSU, and Joseph Randal ran all over the Longhorns.

This weeks 5 are none other than;

Star Lotulelei, DT, Utah: At 6' 3" 320 lbs, Lotulelei is an absolute load on the inside of the Ute's defensive line. Known as a run stuffer with a little bit of ability to get after the Quarter back, it should be interesting to see how he fares against a weak Trojans offensive line. Look for the Utes, led by their defensive "Star" to make it close and possibly pull out the upset against the Trojans of South California.

Barkevious "Keke" Mingo and Sam Montgomery, DEs, LSU: Mingo is listed at 6' 5", 240 lbs, and Montgomery at 6' 4", 245 lbs. Both will be able to fill out a little more in the offseason in terms of weight, but it will be interesting to see how they manage to get pressure against an SEC offensive line. Both have the capability to wreak havoc on offensive coordinator's game plan, but neither has really burst out this year. In a nationally televised game, these two LSU defensive stars have a chance to really boost their draft stock. Mingo, recruited as a safety, has a lightning quick first step, and possesses solid pass rushing skills. Mingo also can play the run, but not as well as Montgomery who is seen as the more "well rounded" of the two.

Sheldon Richardson, DT, Missouri: Richardson is 6'4", 295, and has a very very good first step for a DT. He seems to get better every week for the Tigers of Missouri, and commands double teams all the time. When opposing offenses fail to get an extra guy on him, he can rush the passer, stop the run, and cause turnovers. Definitely worth a look in the 2nd-3rd round on. Plays against Vanderbilt this week, and if he does well, his draft stock will continue to rise.

Jonathan Cooper: OG, North Carolina: 6'3", 230lbs, is a very good pass protector, and also a good run blocker. Plays with a mean streak. Has some good power for a guy his size. Although the team he plays against this week (Virginia Tech), is nothing to write home about, he should dominate, and he's another guy the Titans could be interested in come April.

Bonus: Geno Smith, QB, WVU: Not someone the Titans will look at, but could very well be the first QB taken in the draft this year. Can make all the throws, has good athleticism, and has put up video game type numbers this year. He plays the Longhorns this week, and this will be the Mountaineers first real test of the season. Should be a really fun game to watch.

UPDATE: Star Lotulelei had a good game against USC. finished with three total tackles, one for loss, and a fumble recovery. He played extremely well early but then fizzled out near the end. Silas Reed, the USC RB only had 77 yards against the D line, led by Star.
