When the Titans 2012 schedule came out everyone knew that September was going to be an extremely tough month. They were playing three teams that made the playoffs in 2011, and heading to a place that has been a nightmare for them in the last decade. At that time, I felt like the Titans just needed 1-3 in September to have a chance at making the playoffs.
Of course with that I thought they would be competitive in all four of those games, but that has not been the case at all. At the end of the three losses they looked like they didn't belong on the same field with teams that beat them. The win over the Lions was nice, but major holes were still obvious.
All of that doesn't even include the fact that Jake Locker has a shoulder injury that sounds like could end his season on any given hit. I mocked the people who said that they should sit Locker through the month of September because of the tough start, but now it looks like that might have been a good decision (obviously not really because you can't predict an injury).
So where are the Titans?
It sure looks like they are a team that is going to really struggle to end the season with more than 5 wins. I still believe that this offense has some upside. It is the defense that really scares me. Jerry Gray better have a rabbit to pull out of his hat, or this is going to be his last season as the Titans' defensive coordinator. They are currently on pace to give up 604 points on the season. That would be an NFL record.
The season is not lost, yet, but they better win 3 out of the next 4 or it is going to be a long winter.
