In the new CBA, it was agreed that the league would expand its Thursday Night Football package from six weeks to the whole season. A boon for its struggling network, which until last week still was not on every cable system across the country. With this change NFL players are subjected to playing three games in eighteen days. We all know that an NFL game is a series of car crashes for three and a half hours. NFL players get use to the routine of game on Sunday. The week ahead to heal from the game on Sunday. Another Sunday of hundreds of car crashes repeat.
If your team suffers some injuries in the previous Sundays game, its a good chance those players are out for the upcoming Thursday night game too. This has happened. The defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants were without three key offensive players for their Thursday night matchup against Carolina. It is possible that if the game was played on Sunday afternoon as normal two out of the three players might have been available for the game.
Jake Locker has reinjured his non throwing shoulder. I fully expect the Titans to take their time in getting him back on the field. I don't expect him to play this Sunday against Minnesota or next Thursday against Pittsburgh. Many issues that this team has on the defensive side but number one is they do not tackle on a consistent basis. A change in attitude is needed. A put the pads on and hit each other session is needed. But forced to play
three games in eighteen days that type of ground and pound session is unlikely. Can't risk sore but otherwise healthy bodies with practice injuries that would limit players availability
for Thursday night.
So here is the Titans quandry. Improvement is needed not just for one game but for two.
I'm glad we have Matt as a backup. Him being reinserted as the starter will at least stabilize the quarterback spot for the next two games. On the defensive side, have the mindset that they are gonna tackle. No matter what it takes to get the player down. That player is going down.
Both games are winneable, the Titans are just gonna have to find away to win both courtesy of the new NFL standard.
