2012 NFL Draft: Todd McShay Big Board

Oh "That" prospect haha
Oops, ya she could easily replace Michelle Griffin in the secondary day one.
This
Jones will be nothing more than a backup QB, IMO. Tannehill, same for him.
Outside of Luck and RG3, this year’s QB class is pretty mediocre.

It looks like he'll do well in the NFL...
but when I watched him play, he had a problem keeping his temper in check. He got a lot of 15 yarders.
This is his biggest problem by far
He cost ASU a lot of games because of it.

Yea I was surprised too.
I go to ASU and I know how much of a problem he is. He just doesn’t know how to play clean.
Marc Barron
would be a steal if he makes it to 20. No idea about his character, but he’s a dominate safety… the kind that are so good they don’t have to have a great front 7 to make plays.

I agree if one is there
but right now, on a lot of boards, the 1st round OL talent trends very heavily towards the top half. Plus, we just haven’t spent top picks on O-linemen historically.

Thats true. I think we just havent needed to spend a top pick on one in quite awhile, though.

If DeCastro and Jeffrey are on the board when we pick, who would you rather have?
As much as I’d love to add the shiny new toy for Locker to throw to in the future and add insurance in case Britt’s knees have issue again, upgrading this offensive line is an absolute priority. It’s a tough call.

it's kind of the blessing and the curse
we have a slew of spots where we need upgrades enough they could go for the best player available and we’d be better for it. Pretty much any first round-caliber playmaker at DE, DT, S, OG, OC or WR would make sense. You could even argue for an OLB if it’s a special guy.
Music City Miracles blogger and High Secretary of Funk. Follow me @AugustWest_MCM.
Jeffrey
i think im in favor at the moment of a FA center and a 2nd round Guard. that means best available of DE, S, OLB, WR in the 1st. a 1st round guard better damn well be absolutely amazing from day 1, as they rarely start coming off the board til round 2.
Pearl for Life.
I hate football.
Jeffrey was predicted to be drafted by us a day after the 2011 NFL Draft was over.
might as well make it true.
MCM's Favorite Hawkeye
my online hesitation with a FA center or (epsecially) guard
is they seem to be really a poor salary cap value, generally. Too much money for a spot rookies can do well a lot of the time.
Music City Miracles blogger and High Secretary of Funk. Follow me @AugustWest_MCM.
right but 1st round OG is poor draft value too
if it were a Pouncey level center, maybe. but there are lots big guards in round 2.
Pearl for Life.
I hate football.
conpletely agree
that’s one of the main reasons I don’t think we will go that direction, but I’ll be really excited if they do because it’ll mean they really see something amazing in whomever it is.
Music City Miracles blogger and High Secretary of Funk. Follow me @AugustWest_MCM.
I wouldn't mind grabbing Jeffery at 20 and going G/C C/G in the 2nd and 3rd.
But you would have to either keep Amano at center, shift him out to guard, or bring in a FA. If Decastro is on the board at 20 it is hard to pass him up, but a Jeffery/ Britt/ All State combination could be lethal for Beck or Locker.
"I can name 31 other starting running backs that would have made that play" 104.5 the zone
Also would like to say that I know we need a better pass rush,
but I am willing to give Morgan another chance to come through in year three, and maybe someone else steps up as well. I have no faith in anyone playing G or C on the roster so IMO it is the most urgent position of need.
At the same time, we have a history of success with late round lineman so I wouldn’t be upset to see us grab a DE early, as long as we get someone new on the OL because they have reached their ceiling…and it is as high as the floor.
"I can name 31 other starting running backs that would have made that play" 104.5 the zone
i'd rather get someone on the depth chart other than scott, harris, or amano to play the other spot

a lot of these guys don’t update their evaluations begin looking to others and starting the herd mentality until the bowl season starts. I’m guessing McShay is the same way.
The herd mentality among the talking heads leading up to the draft never ceases to amaze me.
Also, speaking from a VT bias
I don’t know why David Wilson makes it on at 23, but Jayron Hosley is absent. I would think Hosley is the better prospect.

DeCastro but
Is anyone else really intrigued by the possibility of seeing a speed demon like Zach Brown (OLB) UNC playing opposite Ayers?
i think we wait on OLB, Sean Spence would be nice and could probably get him in the 3rd round.

I agree on Spence. LBs from Da U usually don't bust and are willing to work for it

Maybe even a 4th or 5th for Spence?
Isn’t he a little on the short side? I don’t see there being much demand for 4-3 OLB of his stature. Outside of interior o-line and DE I don’t see another weak spot where it would be worth waiting around the for the middle of the draft for
Where's trevor when we need him?
I want to know about these LSU linemen that are in the range we’re picking.

Its possible that some of them are overrated due to a terrific team defense overall.
I’d be much more comfortable taking a DL that was the only threat on his line than one where you can’t quite tell who was really commanding the attention.

They are both sophomores
Montgomery could be a really good DE, but he’s not gonna be that premier pass rusher like Jared Allen, Osi, or someone like that. Especially when I see my boy Mingo tearing it up on the same team..he looks like Derrick Morgan this year compared to Mingo when it comes to rushing the passer. He is good vs. the run though…probably better than any of our DE’s vs the run already. Brockers is a beast vs the run. Just the thought of him lining up next to Casey one day has me salivating. But like I said, they’re both sophomores so it really doesn’t matter

Not that we’ll be looking at OLB in the first round, but how does Upshaw project as a 4-3 player? Could he get it done, or is he more of the pass rushing 3-4 guy?

So PFT had something to say about Casey that I enjoyed.
9. Jurrell Casey, DT, Tennessee Titans
There’s some chatter amongst the PF analysts that Casey may have already peaked in his role as running game nuisance. I looked at our Signature Stat that breaks down how many stops a defender makes in relation to the time they are on the field and Casey was third in the entire league. A great find in the third round.
Third in the entire GODDAMN league.
yeah. what a suprise casey has been. rookie of the year contender.
Still amazed by this rookie draft class. Its amazing what new blood can do. Keep drafting defense and see if jerry gray can make them beast is my draft plan.
