Tennessee Titans Daily Links: Keith Bulluck Retires Edition
Terry McCormick covers the numerous stand-out 4-3 DE prospects at the Senior Bowl, including North Carolina's Quinton Coples, Alabama's Courtney Upshaw and South Carolina's Melvin Ingram.
Keith Bulluck tells Jim Wyatt that he's moving on from football, ending his stellar 11-year NFL career. Bulluck was the cornerstone of some great defenses here in Nashville between 2001 (when he took over as a starter) and 2009. Before playing his final year out of position in New York, Bulluck tallied 1,265 tackles and 19 interceptions. It's rare to find an NFL star as funny and level-headed as Bulluck always was, and I can't wait to see his name added to the Titans Ring of Honor.
Jim Wyatt looks at which Titans make the most money, which Titans played way above their pay grade and which Titans were overpaid. The next time someone tries to say we're too defensively oriented, just point out that the top 5 highest paid Titans all play of offense.
David Climer expects the Titans to make ripples, not waves in free agency.
The Colts have hired former-Ravens defensive coordinator Chuck Pagano, and former Titan and Raven Samari Rolle gives a glimpse of what he's like to play for.
Here's PK's Twitter transcript of Pagano's introductory press conference, until it was high-jacked by all of the Peyton Manning talk.
Here's a profile of one of the best play-by-play men in the league, and the Voice of the Tennessee Titans, Mike Keith.

Bulluck absolutely needs to be in the Ring of Honor.
It’s unfortunate that he never got the attention he really deserved, in his prime he was easily one of the most underrated players in the league. Missed his leadership last year, but hopefully guys like Ayers and McCarthy can carry on that legacy.

Best of luck to Keith Bulluck in retirement.
Whether he goes on to do color commentating, coaching LB’s somewhere, or out of the game altogether just chillin’, truly one of the greatest Titans of all time and it was just awesome watching him play the game at the highest level year in and year out.

I knew this day was coming... but it still makes me a little sad he didn't get to retire here.
One of my all-time favorite Titan…

Thank you Mr. Monday Night

Green'd
McNair and Bulluck represented what Titans’ football is all about. They were the last of the grinders in this league.

Climer's article is very blah and predictable.
Of course we’re not just all of a sudden change course and start going on a spending spree. Webster has worked under Reinfeldt and been the key draft guy for a few years now, why would he suddenly start spending tons of money in free agency? I know we have some holes and there are some good guys out there, but how many of those signings really make a difference for a team? There are exceptions of course, but for the most part I like that Webster also believes in using the draft and not going crazy in free agency.

We need a FA splash like when we got Mawae and Hope.
by NoMoreMustache on Jan 27, 2012 11:13 AM CST up reply actions
And that's fine, I'd be all for that.
Veterans who have some good years in them still who can provide leadership as well but also don’t break the bank. I just don’t expect us to go after a Carl Nicks or Mario Williams or any big-name FA WR. And trust me, there will be people on here screaming for Webster’s head when we don’t go after those kind of guys.

I'd rather they save the big splash
for when we are in a “we just need one last piece” mode

Yep.
Unless you could get a huge injury discount on someone like Mario Williams, we are just not a point yet where we should be spending a lot of money for that “one guy”. If we had everything else in place but a top-flight guard, then I’d be ok with going for a Carl Nicks. We’ve still got too many holes though that money needs to be spread around to fill.

like a center. which is of far, far greater importance than a guard.
You can move a bad center to guard. You can’t move a bad guard to center.

Haha, the only time I can see myself screaming at the Titans FO is if we pass on Decastro in the draft.
That’s if he falls all the way to us.

Referring to Coples, the answer to this question is NO WAY!!!
He might be the most exact fit for what the Titans would look for in a defensive end, but the question is whether he would still be on the board when Tennessee picks at No. 20.
I have him going somewhere between 10-15.

KB and MAC9 both should have ended thier careers here
SHAME they didnt. Its a business I understand, No loyalty anymore either way
Aren't there rules about salary on one day contracts that make teams shy away from them?

Didn't the Sparkling Sparkle Kittens do that for Fred Taylor?

I don't think so, they're just written differently I presume.
Seems to happen enough where guys will sign what essentially amounts to an “honorary” contract so they can retire with a certain team. I’m sure there is very specific wording in there about compensation or lack thereof.

It is an actual contract that goes through the NFL offices.
No money is paid out though. Deadspin did a piece on those retirement contracts when Fred Taylor resigned.
Taylor, with more than ten years of service, is entitled to a minimum salary of $910,000. As a normal NFL contract, that’s the amount that will presumably be on Taylor’s one-day deal (or a pro-rated amount). That would be a big hit for a team just looking to do right by a loyal player, and thankfully Jacksonville won’t have to pay a penny of it. In section 9.a.vi of the collective bargaining agreement, a player’s retirement counts as a “Forfeitable Breach,” and Taylor will have to forfeit “the proportional amount,” in this case, all of it. Since the contract goes into effect and expires today, and Taylor will formally retire before paychecks are due or games are played, no money changes hands.
OT: This is awesome -

and Sunday Night Football where we beat the Colts to get into the playoffs.

Keith Bulluck. Thank you for the Great
years you put into the tennessee titans organization.
Even tho you played for the giants to finish your career you will always be a
Tennessee Titan
Cant wait to see your name in the Ring Of Honor
Thank you for the memories
Bulluck was the last great player (IMO) to come out of SU…
… I was sad to hear he couldn’t come back from his injury. Would have loved to him have had him play this past season for the Titans…
.
I had to stop arguing with drunks, Steeler fans, and all other fools.
It was making my brick wall jealous...
.
Dedicated to the "Pride of the Steelers"

Best of wishes to Bulluck in his life after football.
I sure hope it’s as eventful and awesome as his life during football.

Also why the hell is chris hope making 7 mil a year? I saw in an article earlier this year hope was considered the most overpaid of all nfl players and top five in all of sports. Can we cut him?
