FA talk...
I believe we’re not going to make any major signings. As much as we all want Mario Williams or a Carl Nicks, those are just not the kind of signings this team has done of late. I see the team waiting until a couple of days into FA once the madness has died down to go get someone like a Scott Wells, Cliff Avril and those mid-level players that can be effective but don’t break the bank. And if you’re wanting this team to sign a Colston or Bowe…start thinking smaller.

I dunno. Yes it would be out of the ordinary, but a Super Mario signing wouldn't shock me either.
Even at a high price tag, I think the Titans would still get excellent value.
I would love for it to happen.
But think that even with the injury someone (Washington? Miami?) is going to give him a pile of money we aren’t going to want to go anywhere near. Maybe I’m just trying to set myself up now for another year of mid-level signings (not that that is a bad thing).

honestly i dont see it
what can NE do to NY better than NY can do it to NE?
better pass rush, better running game, better QB vs. Pass D match up.
turnovers are really NE’s only shot. Brady cant handle consistent pass rush, Eli can. i dunno, I’m searching for a matchup where the Pats have an edge and I can’t find one. unless NE’s o line plays the game of their lives, i think this is a beat down waiting to happen for the Giants.

First things first, one bad practice does not make a bad draft prospect.
That said, I don’t think Kellen Moore has the baseline physical skillset to compete at the NFL level today. He’s not worth a high draft pick, IMO.
I think there’s potentially some good value if he falls to round 4 or later, though. His production and experience at Boise is phenomenal. And, despite what Mike Mayock wants you to believe, production does mean something, especially at the QB position.
Oh his production is great and should count for something.
I haven’t seen any of this footage so really just going off the comment from noles, if it is true that his mechanics have looked terrible, what’s that say about Petersen and that staff’s coaching ability that he looked so good in college? That’s more what I was getting at than trying to shred Moore, I actually like him and wish him well.

You also have to remember outside of 1 or 2 games a year, Boise doesn't exactly play a powerhouse schedule
Petersen is a great offensive minded coach. There’s a reason why his name comes up every year during coaching searches.

I think a team looking for a long term project would be wise to invest a 6th or 7th in him.
Like you said, the production matters. He’s got several hurdles to overcome, but I think he could develop into a nice little backup.

I think 8-9 mil/year is pretty fair honestly.
He’s very, very good but I don’t know if he should be up there with the Revises of the league in terms of money per year.

6-7 million would be tolerable for me. Assuming they feel he's not going to lose his spot to ATV anytime soon.
For 8-9 million you better be a shutdown corner and he is not. Revis is at 11.5/year, Asomugha 12/year. Finnegan is far, far away from those guys. I’m going to have to look up other CB contracts.

I look at that corner list and am more than ready to move on from Finnegan. Someone will hand him over the bank, and it shouldn’t be us.
I am much more prepared to sink money into the line than the corners.

we have lots of money and good drafters running the show
doesn’t strike me as an either/or scenario.
way easier to draft year 1 pass rushers than year 1 corners.

I would say we'd be better on improving our pass rush, solidifying our safety positions, and helping out our O-line/WRs
then focusing a good chunk of money on one corner.
Plus, we have a boat load of other people we may or may not re-sign.

A few more things to note. For each player, I checked their D's pass yards against rank. The results:
Revis- 5th
Asomugha- 10th.
Woodson- 32nd.
Routt- 27th.
Bailey- 18th.
Joseph- 3rd.
Samuel- 10th.
Robinson- 20th.
Gamble- 24th.
Newman- 23rd.
Webster- 28th.
Winfield- 26th.
So for those thinking that Finnegan is the key to having a good secondary or not, (coughHALcough) I question that reasoning. In fact, if you look at the higher ranked pass defenses, they are the ones with strong defensive lines.
In fact, the top 5 pass defenses (Pitt, Cle, Hou, Balt, NYJ) have great defensive lines (I have no idea about Cleveland’s). So if we’re looking to shut down the QBs we face next year, our success is more likely to rely on our drafted DLs and FAs rather than Cortland Finnegan.

The logic that said that a strong defensive line would make up for losing our best cornerback.
Unless that defensive line can phase through the opposing players, they’re not going to get to the quarterback every down.
When the QBs that Hal listed face the Titans, and they start doing quick throws to negate our pass rush, then we’re screwed, unless we have guys like Finnegan in the secondary that can negate the quick passes and shut down screen plays as soon as they start.

You place way too much importance on Finnegan.
He’s good, but the loss of him would be overcome with a better defensive line. I would argue the line was the weakest part of the D. Adding pass rushers in the draft or in free agency would have much more impact than signing Finnegan. For instance, in 2008 with a great line, our corners and safeties looked like Pro Bowlers. In the years that followed, our line got worse and so did our corner play.

IF this is true, I think that’s fantastic news for us. That defense is undersized for a 4-3 and has been running that “Tampa 2” for years, is he going to change it to a 3-4? If so, that’s going to require virtually a complete overhaul of their defense.
Secondly, I know Andrew Luck is a one-of-a-kind talent but there is something to be said for coaching still I think. Having a defensive-minded head coach certainly won’t hurt him, but his OC and QB coaches are going to be key.

I have never understood why people believe/think this.
Yes, I’m sure he loves the university and does a ton for it under-the-radar, but why would he want the stress of being a major college football head coach for much less money, when he could go into television and make a good amount with much less stress and work (not that he needs the money…).
Just as important, I think, is that he seems to be very aware of his legacy and that being an important thing for him. What if he were to go to UT as coach and bomb? Legacy tarnished.
I just can’t see it and think it is wishful thinking to believe he’d do it.

I would LOVE to see Peyton back on the sidelines of Neyland stadium.
But based on his most recent interviews, I’ve gotten the impression that he’s very comfortable in Indianapolis, and he probably doesn’t want to uproot his family from there.
On top of that, he probably doesn’t want to jump into recruiting, etc. Just if I had to guess.
However, if he did it for anyone, it would be for Tennessee, and Knoxville would have a ticker tape parade if he ever came back here.
I would kill to see him join our offensive coaching staff as a QB coach or something similar and work his way up through the ranks.

if Hass’s cap number is in the $7.5 mil range next year, it would probably only take about $8-10 mill more to upgrade to Manning. then let Locker do the Rodgers thing and try to win a super bowl in the next 2 years. would leave $15 mil+ to patch up the defense in FA, maybe bring Jeff Saturday along with him.
we have cap space, plenty of offensive talent, and the Titans would finally plant a flag in East Tennessee. he’d be worth 10 times what they pay for him in new merch sales, better attendance, more advertising, etc. and Bud could have a shot at winning a ring before he croaks.

I like it. Don't think it'll ever happen, and the thought of Peyton as a Titan is somewhat nauseating.
That said, it’d be well worth the risk. The risk being that Peyton is no longer able to play football at a high level due to long term nerve damage.
Problem is that I think Peyton’s ego thinks he’s got a lot more than 2 years in the tank, and he doesn’t seem interest in playing with a QB in waiting scenario.
