SB Nation 2012 Mock Draft; The Titans and Cordy Glenn
The Titans need to completely retool the interior of the offensive line. That has to be a the number one priority of this offseason. Ryan Van Bibber of SB Nation has put out a 2012 NFL mock draft today, and he has the Titans taking Cordy Glenn, G, Georgia. Here is what he had to say about the pick:
Mike Munchak is a former Pro Bowl offensive lineman that has publicly criticized his current group. Glenn helps both Jake Locker and Chris Johnson next season in a division that suddenly looks more attainable.
Taking a guard in the first round is really boring, but it might be necessary if they cannot upgrade through free agency.
I would be in favor of them taking Alshon Jeffery with this pick if the draft played out this way. Smash told me earlier that anyone who thinks the Titans should take a receiver in the first round is an idiot Well sign me up as an idiot because that guy is the real deal and would make this offense deadly.

Why would we waste a pick on a receiver?
Give Britt another shot to see if he can be healthy for a 16 game season. Who would we bump down? Not Kenny, and not Nate. No point in drafting a receiver first round when there are clearly much bigger needs.

look at what Nicks and Cruz are doing to the NFL this year. that’s all the convincing I need.
aaaaaaand we're back, contribootin' some more!
So what you are saying is...
find a un-drafted WR?
Nicks = Britt
Cruz = (not a draft pick)
USC > UT (Both of them)
I’m aware of Cruz’s situation, I’m saying get two awesome wide receivers out there and have them destroy everybody week in and week out. use Nate as the Mario Manningham type and we’re golden.
aaaaaaand we're back, contribootin' some more!
But...
Giants have a pretty good offensive line so that helps their passing game…look at the Cowboys for instance…they have Bryant, Austin, Robinson and Witten yet there offense is pretty mediocre because they still have issue with their o-line.
USC > UT (Both of them)
they almost never have all of those guys healthy at the same time, and actually Dallas had the fifth best passing offense in the game this year (ironically right behind NYG), also per FO.
aaaaaaand we're back, contribootin' some more!
We are around700 passing yards short of the Giants
and that’s more of a QB thing then it is a WR thing imo…
USC > UT (Both of them)
If there is one thing I am sure about
It’s that the Giants OLine sucks almost as bad as ours does. I should know, I watch them every Sunday.

You don't really "bump down" Nate.
His natural position is the slot. We need a true playmaker at the Flanker position. I don’t think DWill is the answer.
I'm with you
As awesome as it would be to take a WR, he doesn’t help improve our run game nor can he help in pass protection.
USC > UT (Both of them)
It may not help with run blocking
But a dangerous receiving corps can make up for lousy pass protection. See Green Bay, Detroit, & NY Giants.

I agree.
Why draft insurance for Britt if we have other holes to fill? I´d prefer drafting an OL or S, and hope Britt recovers well.

Why do we have to have given up on Britt to want a 1st round WR?
I haven’t given up on Kenny at all. We need a legitimate Flanker. Move Nate back to the slot where he was so effective when Kenny was healthy.
seriously, if anything this makes Britt that much better. was Atlanta trading their whole draft for Julio Jones their way of “giving up” on Roddy White?

Its not a luxury.
There is nothing behind Britt and Washington.
Damian Williams and Lavelle Hawkins would be hard-pressed to make good NFL rosters.

Through all the inconsistencies Dwill and the hawk aren’t that awful, remember this is only dwills second season i dont wanna give up on him yet. They’re adequate for third options. Also that quality depth in your opinion is what we lack and third options aren’t something I’m willing to spend a 1st rounder onn when its quite possible Decastro is still on the board at 20

Do you realistically expect a super bowl next year
I’m not hating just saying that seems overly optimistic and the most pressing need at this time is the interior line
by Seal Clubbing on Jan 2, 2012 2:54 PM CST up reply actions
eventually, yes. having three legitimate threats at wide receiver instead of two would make a huge difference; there would basically have to be a mismatch every time we went to a three wide set.
aaaaaaand we're back, contribootin' some more!
Let's not forget Cook.
Between Britt, Washington in the slot, Cook being moved around or lined up at TE and potentially Jeffery…mismatches all over the place. Oh and if Palmer keeps splitting CJ out wide…

I honestly believe that drafting a solid OG in first round is best for us.
It would not only help out CJ but also protect our qb’s. Also, by helping out CJ and getting him going, we can keep teams honest with playactions. We could then move Locker around the pocket, use his mobility and make him throw on the run (where he is more accurate), so we are using his strengths.
by infinitystealth on Jan 2, 2012 3:05 PM CST up reply actions
I wont disagree with that however
if our running game sucks as bad next year as it did last year teams will just rush four every pass play and it wont have the same sort of effect and when qb’s are running for their lives they dont complete as many passes
by Seal Clubbing on Jan 2, 2012 3:01 PM CST up reply actions

Green Bay was 11th last year in rushing, per FO. Pats are number 4 this year, New Orleans number 2. probably just more coincidence than anything, you can win without running well, these teams just so happen to be able to run it. Atlanta and NYG have shit running games but found a way around it somehow.
aaaaaaand we're back, contribootin' some more!
DeCastro will be gone, but that's beside the point.
Jeffery would instantly be our second most talented receiver, and considering Britt may not be 100% to start the year, he could get a lot of targets next year.

Maybe not 20 sack guys, so yes he has some talent, but that system also made Antwan Odom look really good too.

How many of those really work out?
I’m quite fine with the approach this team has taken, when we signed Mawae/Hope/Thornton in 2006 all were key signings that didn’t break the bank, came in and upgraded their respective units/positions and provided veteran leadership. I’ll take that over playing real-life Madden like the Eagles did this year.

Who's better?
Garcon basically put up a 1000 yard season with the worst QB situation in the NFL on one of the worst teams in NFL history. He’s in the prime of his career.
This is classic value. If Manning plays, Garcon goes for 1200, easy. Maybe more.

I'm not arguing that he's a pro bowl WR.
Or even a clear #1. I think he can fill a serious need at Flanker here, that I’m not sure DWill can fill. A guy that can produce 1000 yards with Curtis Painter/Collins/Orlovsky is a guy that’s good enough to help this team opposite Kenny. It will allow Nate to move to the slot.
I think a guy like Garcon fits better than Meachem or some of the others available.
To be fair, I remember seeing lots of Garcon's receiving yards
coming after the catch and because of poor tackling by the opposing secondary.

Yeah. Julio is 15th in terms or receiving yards for rookies post merger.
Such a waste.
Calvin Johnson ranks 55th on that list. Think he makes Detroit better?
WR’s, probably more than any other position, should not be evaluated on just a rookie year.
There are a lot of question marks on Britt:
Will he come back completely to pre-injury form? Will he stay healthy? Do we trust him to not make terrible headlines in the offseason?
My answers are maybe, probably not, and no.

Call me a pessimist, but he won't be by the start of next season.
The rule of thumb is the second year after that type injury. Morgan has only recently started showing signs of regaining pre-injury form.
The Force is with you, young SkyLocker, but you are not a Jedi... yet!
If you honestly believe that Kenny can last all season without an injury,
then it is you who is the fool. There has been no evidence to suggest that Kenny can even stay healthy for 12 games, let alone all 16. The NFL rules are geared towards protecting the QB and receiver. So not loading up on talent at that position with a 1/2 speed CJ would be a huge mistake. I don’t see us going in any other direction unless DeCastro is still there or Jeffery and Floyd are off the board.

a guard doesn’t bother me, nor does it bore me. fixing up this offensive line is a huge priority. take an interior lineman here, pick McNutt or whatever in the second round.
now having said that, I’d be cool if we took Jeffrey here and waited until the second for a guard too. there are lots of quality guards that should be around still. if all else fails, trade up with one of those third rounders we’ve got.
aaaaaaand we're back, contribootin' some more!
Jeffery:
I wouldn’t mind trading up for him. Not in the first round, but the second. While the current thought is he’s a first round pick, some sites have him listed as a second rounder (the one that carries the most weight for me is Rang, who has him 40th). Scouts are also worried about his weight (I think he’s 230 or something) and speed. A slow 40 at the combine could drop him down a bit.
If he were to hit the second round, I would trade up for him. We should have an extra 3rd from Babin and an extra 5th/6th from Tulloch. The price to jump say 15 spots in the second round wouldn’t be too steep.

He holds almost every single Iowa receiving record.
He has really good hands and good speed. Out of the middle tier receivers, he would be my favourite. I also think he’d be a good value pick at the 20th pick in the second round. He’s a late 2nd/early 3rd guy. Barring a miracle with Jeffery, I would be very pleased to see McNutt here. The only thing I have against him is that I think we need another “big” receiver, which is why I’m so high on Jeffery.

I hate our interior line it would be worth it. Then pick up someone in free agency to fill the third spot it needs an overhaul simply put and its not like we have any depth or good youngsters who could develop. I don’t put much (if any) faith in Matthews and Stingley

I'm not suggesting we marry ourself to that position.
I just think we throw that into our modified BPA pool (C, G, WR, DE, S) and take the one highest on our board.
I think thats fine after the 1st round.
But in terms of talent we already have at the position, WR is way deeper than any of those other positions we need. So we’d better get a damn talented something in the first round.

provided he doesn’t blow up at the senior bowl and combine. He’s made a ton of money staying for his senior year. went from a possible 4th rounder to 2nd rounder

how many games would KB have to play next year
to call it a good year? 5, 10, 12, 16?

I don't think its how many he plays, its how many he is effective in. AKA Morgan: played almost all games this year but we didn't call it a good year
I’d have to say if he is effective in around 8-12 games, it’d be a good year because he’ll be off an ACL injury and he won’t regain full speed and strength until the season after.

i'd love to see what he could do in 12 games

well interesting news on the RB front.
Oregon’s Kenjon Barner is considering entering the draft along with LMJ

what about Stevie Johnson?
All antics aside, he’s a quality WR.
I hope they address Center thru free agency & Guard thru draft.
I still think another top WR is a need. But both lines & safety are needs as well.
Before I do anything I ask myself "Would an idiot do that?" And if the answer is yes, I do not do that thing.

Why don't we just bring VY back?
All antics aside, he’s a quality quarterback.

Stevie's antics & VY antics are not the same thing.
