Tennessee Titans Agree to Terms with Craig Stevens
The Titans had been saying since the season ended that re-signing Craig Stevens was a priority for this offseason. Well they have gotten just that done today. Jim Wyatt reports that the deal is for 4 years and worth about $15 million. That seems like a good, fair number for both sides.
Stevens told Wyatt that he is happy to be back with the club:
"I am extremely happy, and glad they brought me back," Stevens said. "I am looking forward to the next four years here and feel the team is headed in the right direction.""It feels good to be here, and know that they really want you," Stevens said. "It makes me want to give them everything I’ve got. I’m going to work real hard for the team."
That leaves the Titans with 17 more players who are headed to unrestricted free agency if a deal is not done before March 13th.

They didn’t waste much time signing him…
… I doubt they will be so fast with any of the other 17 guys…

I had to stop arguing with drunks, Steeler fans, and all other fools.

I wouldn't be stunned if he's the only one we resign before regular free agency starts

Actually this was a pretty swift signing for the FO as apposed to seasons prior...

You know, it's really encouraging to hear so many players on this team say "we're heading in the right direction."
Maybe my memory is poor but I don’t remember that many players being that positive about things come seasons end over the last couple years.
The Force is with you, young SkyLocker, but you are not a Jedi... yet!
That's because they weren't.
With all the turmoil the Titans went through the last couple of years, it was difficult for anyone to even bring it up. But we’re moving into a new era now, boys & girls. And in such a huge transition year like last year, to go 9-7…well you know everyone is excited about the future. And so am I.

Yeah, I didn't even mean the 2010 offseason.
That offseason no one could’ve been positive about things. I was going with the couple offseasons before things completely fell apart. Even then, I don’t remember players with that outlook. But you’re right, the future looks bright.

Pretty good deal for Stevens
Don’t get me wrong, he is a great signing for this team, but I thought he would have been in the 2.5 – 3 million a year range. I wonder if the deal is loaded towards the end.
No idea what the breakdown is like...
But simple dividing 15 by 4 years gets $3.75 million a year…sounds pretty fair to me.

I honestly think he's gone.
I’d be happy to see him back, but would also not be surprised if he isn’t.

If he is gone our defense takes a hit we can't afford in our current state.

You don't think the Titans will pay him?
And if not, how about picking up Brent Grimes or Carlos Rogers?

I wish they would re-sign him
but the late-season noise made me feel like that’s very uncertain. He’s played well in his new role, but the pretty obvious issue is that he’s likely to push for more than is logical to pay him, and that will suck, because I doubt they will replace him effectively.
Maybe they replace him with a pass rush?

Speaking of our free agents, it looks like someone is auditioning for a job with the Fish

Because Schwartz is awesome
Fisher, unfortunately, is not.

Whoo, Stevens!
Hopefully they can lock up Finny as well.
Love this signing and timing.
Stevens’ quote of:
""It feels good to be here, and know that they really want you," Stevens said. “It makes me want to give them everything I’ve got. I’m going to work real hard for the team.”"
…really shows what it means to the players about getting signed on time. I’m hoping decisions are made on the other FAs before the summer to avoid any other attitude problems.

Makes sense
Like Stevens said…at least it showed him that the team really wanted him. No way CJ should feel that way though…trust me, the Titans wouldn’t offer THAT much cash to a player they “didn’t really want”.

Agreed
CJ has no room to have a bad attitude with that payday, aside from maybe a result of his own poor play. Perhaps he should focus on correcting that.

I don't think CJ is having any attitude problems this year... unless he's just being Emo over how terrible he was.
But he can use some of that 50mil to help wipe away his tears.
I think he could be talking about Finny or maybe Griff, the comments and tweets about how this is the last time they are going to be in the locker room have gotten too much for even me. I can’t imagine what it’s like to have to listen to that all the time.

$15 million for a backup TE?
Hell, the Packers just signed Jordy Nelson (Another fourth-year veteran) to a contract extension this season. He’s only making about $14M in base salary from 2011 through 2014.
Good job, agent. I would’ve guessed something like 2-year, $6 million.
Stephens started all year...
