Titans Request Permission to Talk to Cowboys' Brett Maxie
Jim Wyatt is reporting via Twitter that the Titans have requested permission to talk to Brett Maxie of the Dallas Cowboys for the open defensive backs coach position. Maxie has been with the Cowboys since 2008.
It is hard for me to figure out who is and is not a good defensive backs coach. The Titans decided to let Marcus Robertson go after his defensive backs played much better than they did the year before. Now the Titans want to talk to Maxie who just had his defensive backs get embarrassed by Eli Manning and the Giants in the final game of the regular season. Does that mean he can't coach? No, but it still a curious decision to me.
It would be really fun if Mike Munchak would bring back Chuck Cecil to coach the defensive backs. Cecil was over-matched as a defensive coordinator, but he was the defensive backs coach the last time Michael Griffin didn't look like an arena league safety.

Why?!
Why do we shoot ourselves in the foot? Do we expect it to hurt less the second time? third time? ect.? I hope Munch and Gray know what they are doing because there is nothing that leads me to believe that any coach for the Cowboys has any idea how to coach a Pop Warner team. The things this franchise puts me through is going to kill me one of these days.

Calm down
They only want to speak to him, doesn’t mean they will hire him. Save your rage for when they do hire him :P

Cowboys defensive backs have been terrible for years...
this is odd.

Know zilch about the hire, but its interesting that they are interviewing a "safeties coach."
Hope that doesn’t mean they think he can turn Griffin’s career around.

Some research...
Played 13 years in the NFL.
Was a secondary coach in Miami, Atlanta, San Fran, and Carolina.
Highlights from dallascowboys.com:
Maxie got his start as an NFL assistant in 1998 when he served as defensive backs/defensive quality control coach with the Carolina Panthers under Dom Capers, Maxie’s former secondary coach when he played for New Orleans(1986-91).
In his first season as secondary (safeties) coach for Dallas, Maxie’s tutelage of a defensive secondary helped the unit finish fifth in the NFL by holding opponents to 187.7 passing yards-per-game. Seven of the team’s eight interceptions came by way of a member of the secondary under Maxie’s coaching, including Newman’s then career-high tying and team-leading four interceptions.
So, off a quick list, Maxie has at least worked with Dom Capers, Wade Phillips, Dave Campo and Rob Ryan. That’s a pretty stellar list, and I didn’t even go through the middle years of his career.
Doesn’t really mean anything, but hey, he must have learned something from those guys.

Was this guy an actual DB coach?
Because according to Shefter, the Cowboys are bringing in some ex-Browns guy to be their DB coach.
Still, like everyone else has said, it would be a strange move seeing as the Cowboys have had pretty awful secondaries the past few years.

I like this...
aside from the Giants game, hasn’t their secondary been very good?
Also, name one of their corners… I mean, they don’t have premier corners, so maybe think what he can do with the likes of Cortland Finnegan, and Jason McCourty ( Who I think is better then any corner the Dallas Cowboys have ).
I like this, if they can make it happen…
GO TITANS!!!
OT: WHat do you guys think about these? I found a template and will try to make some.
Its hard finding the right colors, but these were the closest i could do in a few mins

Only the jersey design may change. Most likely it will be tighter. Which i like. It looks cooler.

OT: I took a little trip down in the archives
MCM didn’t have a 50 comment post until April 28, 2007, when Jimmy posted about being extremely shocked by the draft choice of Michael Griffin.
