Tennessee Titans Daily Links: Chris Johnson Contract Watch Continues To Continue Edition
Jim Wyatt was quick to throw cold water on the reports late yesterday that the Titans and Chris Johnson were getting closer to a deal. Wyatt is under the impression that there's still a huge divide between the last offers from both sides, but as week one gets closer and closer the atmosphere in these negotiations must have a growing sense of urgency on both sides. No matter where they really are right now, you have to agree with what Andrew Brandt said:
Brandt predicts Johnson will report to the Titans at some point after Labor Day with a new contract. If the deal’s not done by then, however, "it could be a long time," Brandt said.
One of my favorite things to watch over this preseason has been Cortland Finnegan moving into the nickel back role when a 3rd CB comes onto the field. Paul K asks what the TItans will do when the other team has an elite receiver; will Jerry Gray fully trust Verner or McCourty to cover those guys outside and leave Cortland in the slot?
At least seven players who are expected to make, or have recently made, the final roster are expected to miss tomorrow's match-up against the Saints. This list includes Derrick Morgan, Jason Jones, Jacob Ford, Javon Ringer, Marc Mariani, Pete Ittersagen, Troy Kropog and possibly Chris Hope.
Matt Hasselbeck is only expected to play 8-10 snaps tomorrow night, but the rest of the first team might play an extra series or two with Jake Locker.
Mike Munchak joins Andy Reid and Tony Sporano as the only active head coaches in the NFL with a background in the offensive line group. David Boclair takes a look at how the common perception of that position group reflects Munchak's emerging coaching style.
AP writer extraordinaire Teresa Walker looks at Rob Bironas' unusually uneven preseason performances, and what the ultra-reliable kicker is doing to get back on track.
Former Titan Tuff Harris has joined the Edmonton Eskimos of the CFL.
When you play your college ball as a Catawba Indian, just making it to the Titans' training camp is a victory of sorts. So congratulations to Julian Hartsell for doing just that!
The University of Iowa is trying to figure out how they're going to replace Karl Klug, and Titans fans have gotten a chance to see just how tall of an order that it for Kirk Ferentz.
PFT and John Clayton are reporting that the Seahawks may cut Golden Tate. I'll be doing cartwheels if that happens and we can snag him. Tate is a tremendous athlete from just up the road in Hendersonville, TN, and he could definitely help this offense more than anyone else who's going to hit the street within the next week.

Has he lost his connections to the team?
Seems like he broke everything under the Fisher regime, I wonder if that had to do with relationships on that staff that he hasn’t developed with this one.

Woah, the University of Iowa being mentioned on MCM?
We’ve made it big!
I’m your Iowa rep for all news including the replacement of Klug!
Agreed.
But still.
Are you from Iowa?
That is where the majority of my fam is from, all Hawkeye fans. I was mega-excited about the Klug pick, especially where we got him.

Is Klug really that good?
I’m excited based on the hype, just want to know from someone who’s been exposed to him more whether he can live up to it.

From what we've seen in preseason he's been a terror on the line
very KVB always running 130%.

I don't know anything about him from college and don't care
He has been a force so far every time he’s been on the field in preseason.

Yes he is. Iowa had a top-5 D-line last year and the 6th best defense in the country.
Klug is going to be a starter on the DT in the next year or two.
Agreed.
But still.
yes its bleacher report bs

If Golden Tate would do wonders for our offense
why would Seattle be considering releasing him out right??

Carroll is still clearing out guys who were there before he took over
and now they have Sidney Rice and Mike Williams, so they might like the depth. I seriously doubt it happens, but I"d love to benefit from it if it does.

edit
Carroll actually drafted Tate, so my guess is that this is a longshot, but it’s still Carroll trying to send some sort of message…

If it happens, maybe Matt could do a little influencing.
He, and all the other players Golden practiced with here at Father Ryan. Again, it’s all long shot, but sorta fun to think about.
The Force is with you, young SkyLocker, but you are not a Jedi... yet!
Yeah, weird
He was only drafted last year…if there isn’t anything that we don’t know (off-field issues / injury) then I think Tate could be a good complement to Britt.
I think there will be a couple of guys cut that we don’t expect.
by shawneriksmith on Aug 31, 2011 11:32 AM CDT up reply actions
True
but at least Tate has some regular season game experience (22 catches for 220 yards or something like that last year).

Yeah, just going by what the Seattle papers have said
Doesn’t want/can put in the mental effort to play the game now that just being a great athlete won’t cut it. I have no idea if it’s true or not.

Tate is better than Hawk
book it. He’s still a little raw because he played RB in high school, and left ND early once Weiss was canned. But he’s better than Hawk and has a much higher ceiling.

Maybe, but the knock on him his "entitlement issues", mental, etc

Tate had an off the field issue last year, it was something small
I think it was loitering in a local seattle donut shop at 2 am. I guess he really wanted some donuts.

If we are "Fake" Titans fans then CJ must be...
A FAKE ASS TITAN! Reguardless if he signs or not, he is a punk.. a greedy kid who thinks is is god’s gift to football!
CJ Doesn’t know shit about being a football fan… he has no idea what it is like to spend 20% of your monthly income to go watch a pro team live. He has no idea what kind of sacrifices some people make to wear a Titan Jersey with his name on it… No idea of the work some fans put in to tailgate, travel, and CARE about his punk ass!!
CJ… go F yourself… better yet… just go to the Bengals!!

I thought this was a nice quote about Texans training camp:
“This practice was soooo lame,‘’ said Matt Leinart’s young son Cole, on the sidelines of training camp after a 75-minute walk-through.
