Does Kevin Curtis Have Any Shot at Making the Titans Roster?

I posted a fanshot about the Tennessee Titans signing Kevin Curtis, but there really hasn't been a lot of talk about it here on the site. The signing really doesn't make sense to me. He hasn't had a good year since 2007 when he caught 77 passes for just over 1,100 yards, and he has virtually no time to make an impression on the coaching staff.

Curtis told John Glennon that he is healthy and ready to go:

"The knees are good. That was more back in ‘09, and I was able to come back last year, play toward the end of the year and it felt great," Curtis said. "It’s been about a year since (the cancer). That’s kind of what happened last year. I found out basically right as camp was starting and it took me out for most of the year. But I’m good."

Best case scenario Curtis is a guy that might have a good year or two left, but if he makes this roster that would mean the Titans are pretty much giving up on Lavelle Hawkins and Damian Williams. D Will is going to make this team, but signing Curtis might be a sign that the staff doesn't have a lot of faith in him.  I think it is a really bad sign if he does end up making the team.

If he's healthy...

You could do much worse for a depth receiver. Wouldn’t mind him in the slot if Mariani doesn’t get work there. But we’re in big trouble if Britt goes down again.

I voted no

Because I don’t want him to because I want our younglings to all get reps and stay healthy. Unfortuneately he probably makes it because DWill and Hawk haven’t made strides this preseason.

On the other hand, if Gage is cut and Curtis makes it in his place then Kevin Curtis is instantly one of my favorite players.

Locker has a receiver either side;
Locker fumbles the snap;
Picks it up, sprints out to the right;
Looking;
Fires deep downfield

TOUCHDOWWWWWN TITANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Agreed.

Titans need to kick their habit of adding over the hill washed up players; instead of developing their players. Hawk and Dwill aren’t spectacular by any stretch of the imagination, but i’d take my chances with them than adding another washed up rental.

agreed on everything in this comment

but we do need to stop signing over the hill talent, almost into a valley talent veteran palyers

If he plays well in practice and the game

I could see us keeping him and cutting Gage. Things don’t look for Gage considering he was a healthy DNP in the 3rd preseason game aka “dress rehearsal”

08 Curtis > Justin Gage's Career.

Play the Mormon.

I'm guessing the reason Titans fans outnumber Colts fans here Is because all the Colts fans are trying to see how well a toaster works in the bath. -ISN

I don't see him as just a camp sign.

It’s a little late in the game for that with cuts coming up. Because of that, I think he makes the team.

What I think this really says is that they have little or no faith in the young WRs like Hawkins.

"Do the Titans have a miracle left in them in what has been a magical season to this point? If they do, they need it now. Christie kicks it high and short. Gonna be fielded by Lorenzo Neal at the 25; he dishes it back to Wycheck; he throws it across the field to Dyson. 30, 40, 50, 40, 30, 20, 10, 5, endzone...touchdown, Titans! There are no flags on the field! It's a miracle! Tennessee has pulled a miracle! A miracle for the Titans!"

maybe hes a better situationalplayer

Or mehbe we’re cutting the veterans who made no progress… I seriously want Hawk and Williams on the team, they weren’t as bad as we make out yesterday…

Wow, just saw some highlights of him. If he can produce in this last preseason game, by all means, keep him.

I wonder how much we run this year

Even without CJ I see teams still stacking 8 in the box on us… until whoever plays QB proves we can demolish a secondary

kevin curtis

will make this team. look at the pats every year they get these so called washed up players and do good with them. i would rather have somebody that has done something in the league than wait on ppl like hawk and dwill. i mean how long does hawkins need a decade to prove himself. if they trusted our receivers they wouldnt of signed him imo…..

Old Coaching Staff Picks

I would love to see Hawkins and Williams perform well as much as anyone else, but at this point I’m starting to see them as underachieving picks from when the old staff was in place. Some college athletes that have talent just can’t figure out the pro game and ,unfortunately, i believe this may be the case with these two. In the end , I would rather have Curtis if he can contribute than developmental players who may never see action or contribute anything meaningful to the teams overall success.

They need to put the best guys on the roster…

… if Curtis is better than one or the other, then they need to keep him.

As much as I hate to give up on young guys, Hawkins may need to go. He hasn’t proven to me he can do the job. Williams (IMO) has this year to show he belongs…

I had to stop arguing with drunks, Steeler fans, and all other fools.
It was making my brick wall jealous...

Maybe they signed him for a week to give him a chance to get some game tape out there.
