Tennessee Titans 14 Chicago Bears 13 Recap Links
Paul Kuharsky says the receivers were the stories of the night for the Tennessee Titans. The performance from Damian Williams last night was frustrating because it pretty much ended any hope we had that he could knock Justin Gage off of the roster. Speaking of Gage, has even played this preseason?
David Boclair says Tommie Campbell was riding a stationary bike during the game to say loose (maybe he could teach Kenny Britt how to do that). Here is what Campbell, who just a few years ago was a janitor at an airport, had to say about what was going through his mind after his interception according to Boclair:
"I tried to find out where the fastest guy on the field was," Campbell said. "So I took off running. … Being out there with guys like [Devin] Hester, guys I’ve seen on the video game, that was the first time for me. So it was different, you know?"
Mike Munchak said his team was flat last night according to Jim Wyatt:
"I thought we were flat, especially on the offensive side," Coach Mike Munchak said. "We just never got ourselves going. … We can definitely play better and we can definitely make plays."
I sure hope it was just a case of the team being flat and not the sign of some bigger problems. The performance from the defense last night is a cause for concern, but it is just a preseason game. That is what I keep telling myself.

I hope Tommie can stay here
he’s looked pretty good, he gave up a TD and he has a TD, he had big hit last week also, and some nice pass break ups and deflections

I wish I wasn't working last night so I could have seen the game...
Jimmy is saying our defense was terrible, but we won and only gave up 1 TD and 2 field goals. I saw that the Bears had a 56% on converting third downs, which is obviously ugly for us, but the scoreboard is the biggest thing. I just wish I could have watched.
0 sacks

@JustinBozemanMT
the defense WAS terrible last night.
we barely had any pressure on Cutler or any bears QB for that matter and our secondary as well as our LB’s were playing soft. just waiting to make the tackle instead of breaking up the pass.
if us Titans’ fans dont think we have serious problems on the defensive side, I’d say quit drinking the kool-aid and open your eyes. that was horrendously bad to watch.
not even sure how we won that game last night.
Agreed.
But still.
So basically what ur telling those of us who couldnt see the game
that the D looks as bad as last year?!!?
Before I do anything I ask myself "Would an idiot do that?" And if the answer is yes, I do not do that thing.

yes, i want to say Bears converted 80% of their 3rd downs with Cutler in at least.
beyond frustrating.
I was watching it with my girlfriend and I was doing my best not to freak out.
Agreed.
But still.
Cutler looked sharp
A lot of short passes for first down yardage; very efficient with no real big plays being scored against the D, but they could not get off the field. The Bears sputtered in the redzone like we did last week, which allowed us to sneak up and steal the preseason glory. The offense finally looked like they missed CJ and Britt, which left the D on the field for much of the first half. Jamie Harper might end of being the second back because the guy can just smoke fools. While he wasn’t as efficient as last week he had a few good runs again. The one problem I’m been noticing for three weeks is we haven’t or can’t push the ball downfield which one would expect to improve if you add back in your two top playmakers.

Same way the rams won last week! complete role reversal. The bears were suppose to suck from what i have seen and read. I’m confused hope my Titans dont play like this in the regular season. Go Titans 2011

I thought this since the first game.
The defense isn’t as good as we think it is. Last night reminded me of 09 and 10’s defensive woes …

last nights game
I thought for the most part the pass defense did ok. It was the run defense that was killing us. The reason they converted so many 3rd downs is because they always had a 3rd and 1 or 3rd and 2, those are a little easier to pick up.
I sure hope washington can keep up what he was doing last night and trnslate it to the regular season. D will and the hawk looked bad last night 3 maybe 4 drops between the 2 of them.

actually the kid from Arkansas
Had one sack…..after rewatching the game….we had several pressures and hit cutler early, however we always seemed to leave an easy/quick hot read for cutler and he took advantage. Lots of good learning on tape for our D. Also jovan haye had some sice plays as well as Klug…….I didn’t see Marks make any plays and he played a lot….

Tommie's pick didn't impress me only because it hit him in the chest
The speed though, that was fast

I hope he makes the roster though.
And I think he will. He’s really fast …

Yeah, that was just about the easiest INT ever.
But he did get to show off that speed on the return. Sounds like he’s a great special teamer, I think he’ll make the roster based on that. Showing off his speed on the return may have just kept him from going on the practice squad, my guess is someone would claim him based on that.

Does Harper remind anyone else of Eddie George???
Or is it just me? I swear when I watch him out on the field he looks so much like George to me. Not saying he is going to be as good as George, his running style just reminds me alot of him. Anyone else see that, or am I just seeing things?
He actually reminds me of LeGarrette Blunt

I think some people are overreacting
The defense wasn’t great but they weren’t horrible either…Jay Cutler was 13-for-21, 170 yards, 0 TD / 1 INT, and a 67.6 QB rating. If a “horrible” day by the defense is a <70 passer rating then that’s a pretty good defense. That’s 3 starting QBs that the Titans first defense has faced (McNabb, Bradford, Cutler) and none of them have posted passer ratings >70. That’s a solid D.
Note that Tom Brady posted similar numbers against the Lions defense this weekend and people are saying the Lions defense shut down Brady. So, our defense is horrible while the Lions defense is awesome??
The run defense was a little soft, but Forte only averaged 4.4 ypc, so it’s not horrible.
Don’t get me wrong…the 3rd down defense was pretty bad, but the Titans didn’t allow any big plays down the field.
This defense is not “Chuck Cecil 2.0”. They had about a league-average day against a slightly better than average offense.
The offense had some missed opportunities…Hasselbeck was off target on a couple of throws but there were also some drops. D Will had a poor game but I still don’t get how people keep saying that means Justin Gage gets a roster spot. So, if one WR has a bad game then ergo Justin Gage should be on the team?? Can anyone tell me how many catches Gage has this preseason? NONE! Why should a guy who doesn’t have any catches or is ever targeted be on the team? This is not Fisher we are talking about…yes, Williams needs to play better but that doesn’t mean that Gage is better. I think the signing of Kevin Curtis probably means Gage is definitely not making this roster.
And, I only saw Harper “dance” a couple of times…however, there were several times he was hit in the backfield. The offense line should have done a better job blocking. But, Harper has ran the ball well this preseason. He has 32 carries for 136 yards over these 3 preseason games (most of that against the first-team defenses). Plus, he has found the end zone 3 times…
So, people need to stop overreacting…the defense has played really well this preseason. The offense has had some good moments and have moved the ball some…and that is without CJ and Britt. This team is better than it was last season.
We do need better third down defense
But Chicago has a good run game and we were giving them pressure, pressure doesn’t always ensure a good defense… and in the run game I think we can improve on that front, but it’sgonna come from getting bigger up front, and good game-plan, which Is not priority #1 in a pre season game

I Think it was a good game by Chicago
On offense im worried about how out receivers play, cuz we didn’t move the chains until the TE’s got involved… hopefully the young’ns and Nate Washington get in sync with Hasselbeck

Titans need to get CJ in here this week.
He needs as much time to learn the new offense, coaches, etc. before Jax game. I was listening to Mike Reinfeldt talk to Mike Keith that was posted on titansradio.com and Reinfeldt said that CJ’s camp needs to get things rolling in terms of urgency. He said they are urgent in getting CJ here but CJ’s camp hasn’t been. Titans need to offer him a contract and if the CJ camp doesn’t like it then they need to quickly counteroffer. Let’s get this done this week Titans.
