Jim Irsay, the owner of the Indianapolis Colts, is reporting that the team has agreed to terms with former Tennessee Titans QB Kerry Collins. This has to mean that the team doesn't think Peyton Manning will be ready to go when the season starts in a couple of weeks, and the thought of having Dan Orlovsky or Curtis Painter under center terrified them. You can say what you want about Collins, but he is better than either of those guys.

Irsay said that terms will be announced later, but I assume it is a one year deal that doesn't pay him a whole lot of money.

Seriously, in the modern NFL era has there ever been one player who essentially IS his team more than Manning? You put Collins in there for the season, I think they’re a 9-win team at most and guys like Garcon and Collie are not the “budding superstars” they’re made out to be now.

I’m thinking they’ve still got some solid skill players, but I forgot they’ll likely be starting two rookies on that offensive line. Anyone but Manning playing back there is going to get killed. So yes, their season is going to hell if Manning isn’t in.

if they get a competent QB (Orton?) and Manning is out for the season (which he isn’t, but hypothetically), they’re still a 9-10 win team if the defense can put itself together. If the D is just bad and not terrible they’re a playoff team with a decent QB.

Like Winni said, they are a house of cards ready to fall. The glue holding them together is Manning. He makes up for a lot of the offenses short-comings, especially the O-Line.

I have never really understood

the Hate for Collins. Yes his best years have been behind him for a while now. But all he ever did was play when asked. He never complained about anything! So why the hate?

Also, YES the Fisher/Dinger play book might be gone, But the players and their tendencies are still in place. He practiced against most the guys on our Defense. So there is some value there.

I personally always preferred VY over Collins

felt Collins game Titans better chance to win any given Sunday. Then again play calling got more conservative without him and Titans tend to have won more on the back of their defense. Definitely a strange run he had in Tenn.

Collins never really won us games,

it was a combination of him not screwing up just enough to keep us competitive.
He should have been just a back up QB because that is all you can expect from a back up… at no point should he have been starting.

from an outsiders perspective it seemed that Collins starting was a detriment to the Titans

because he was more trusted (probably too much so) to throw down field. That usually cost them at some point. If he’s held to play calling that keeps him at intermediate to short throws I’d imagine he’d be more effective and less of a liability. Am I wrong?

Yes, if we called plays based on the strengths of the players, we would have done a lot better… which is why Thor is such a breath of fresh air.

Colts media relations in a nutshell, folks.

This team is running things all wrong. The problem isn’t the media, per say. It’s the way the are managing the media.

First, they need to alienate the current group of knuckle heads that report on the Colts. It’s not that they aren’t good writers. The Colt’s just don’t seem to like their message. So, eliminate their message.

Then, hire your own set of writers internally, so you can control the message. Any dissent among the writers will unilaterally lead to the loss of privileges. Moreover, commenters to the online site can easily be weeded out. Those with differing opinions will no longer be allowed to comment.

The end result. Perfect homogeneity. A consistent message among the organization, the writers, and the readers. A veritable media utopia.

I’m actually quite secure with myself, and unless the entire reading population of MCM is three people, I think you are exaggerating when you say we banned almost every single member. We deleted your comments because they were offensive (not unlike this email) and because you weren’t really interested in talking about the subject. In fact, I think you made that clear in one of your comments. With our blog, and with many others, we don’t tolerate people who troll, and trolling is when someone comes into a comments section and start hijacking the conversation. You were given a fair warning, and then after that warning you decided to post something that insulted the admins and had absolutely nothing to do with the Colts signing Kerry Collins.

Thus, comment deleted. Account banned.

Each blog works under rules and guidelines determined by the community and by the admins in charge. Contrary to what you think, lots of different voices comment at Stampede Blue. The one voice that doesn’t is a troll’s.

If you ever want your account unbanned, you can always contact us at a later date and we’ll consider it. For now, our site (which is in the Top Five for all SBN football blogs) will be just fine without you and your two friends.

Just posted this on Kerry collins poll over there. Kinda stupid, but I made myself giggle like a little girl.

We cannot believe that Kerry Collins has now come out of retirement to play for the Indianapolis stinkin colts. Hate it for you guys. Kerry was an ok QB for a while even for the Titans. Well, his career has actually not been a Big bust. He has done several good things for several different teams perhaps most notably leading another Blue team to the SB. He’ll be ok for the colts if he can learn the playbook. He is getting old; can he even tie his Shoe?

I figure that Manning will still try to start week one.

Just to try to keep chasing Favre’s consecutive start record. But then after one or two series of downs, maybe even a quarter, he’ll probably come out. He might just be the last QB to ever break Favre’s record, and I bet he knows this.

I’m curious…

… over there at Stampede Blue they have only 4 writers and it seems 2 of them rarely write anything. Of the 2 guys that do write stories, one guy writes about 95% of them.

My question is, how can they expect to have a variety of opinions and takes on things if one guy is writing (it seems) about 95% of the content?
