Tennessee Titans Daily Links: A Shot Across Goodell's Bow Edition
Titans NFLPA rep Jake Scott confirmed that the players' union will fight any potential suspension of Kenny Britt roger Goodell may try to hand down. Scott guesses, which makes sense, that Goodell is just going to give Kenny fair warning that he's under the microscope from moving forward.
Here's a pretty good profile of Mike Munchak in the Tucson Citizen.
Rookie antics... yay!
This link is worth reading just to soak in the awesomeness of the following statement [ed - bold added by me.]:
Former Titans safety Donnie Nickey has played eight NFL seasons...
McCormick recaps the end of camp yesterday, and who all missed the final public session.
PFF previews the 2011 incarnations of the Colts and Texans.
Mike Chappell wonders if Kerry Collins might be lured out of retirement to back-up Peyton Manning.
Albert Haynesworth pled no contest to simple assault for his lewd behavior towards a waitress, and he got a slap on the wrist.
Early reports indicate that Antwan Odom's attacker may have been a childhood friend. I gotta say that wrestling the gun away after being shot in the thigh while lying in bed is pretty damned tough.
Former Titans washout Cary Williams is apparently lighting it up with the Ravens this preseason, and could earn him a starting spot. I would've never predicted that from his play here in Nashville.

In Middle Tennessee, once a hot-bed of NASCAR racing, one of the most exciting races of the season is bumped off the local network in favor of a meaningless NFL scrimmage.
i laughed at this
They can debate the cause but there’s no debating the effect: Bristol’s old-fashioned bare-knuckle racing has been missing.
Nevertheless, to get bumped for a glorified football workout …?
Since when do Race car drivers drive without gloves?
when i think bare-knuckle i think of streetfight

In the early going at least....
it looks like the majority of folks here at MCM (including myself) were wrong about a couple of things. First, we were all pretty high on Dalton and it looks like he’s been struggling. Of course it’s hard to tell if he’s that bad or if the Cincy O-Line is just terrible. But, if he can get any protection at all, I can see Dalton to Shipley all day long. Second, None of us wanted any part of drafting Jason Pierre-Paul, but let me just say, “We were wrong”. This guy is a beast!! Reminds me of “The Freak” in his early years with the Titans.

1) Dalton is still in the preseason and has a long way to go, just the same as any Rookie QB.
What will really show who he is, how he leads this team this season. Really you can’t get much worse than the Bengals right now… if he can muster up some sort of victory with them ((remembering Staffords toilet bowl win against the Browns)) then I see good things for him in the future as a QB. Personally I am glad we didn’t draft him, but that doesn’t mean he’s down and out.
Pierre-Paul, meh. I’d still take Capt. Morgan over him.

Morgan was looking good before his injury.
And JPP plays on a loaded line/front seven. I expect Morgan to bounce back this season, however. Dalton has looked pretty bad, but it’s way too early to pass judgment on any rookie (except for Gabbert, who just sucks).

16!!!!!111!!! He threw only 16 in a system designed to put up big numbers!
I still go back and read SuperHorn’s dissection of him leading up to the draft just to laugh and take pleasure in the Sparkle Kitties’ decision to move up for that kind of production. Based on his preseason thus far, his nickname should probably be “Happy Feet” from what I’ve seen.

Locker's going to need time for sure, but looks better than Gabbert even in struggling.
If you watched the Jags preseason game, he had a terrible case of happy feet, kept going first read or nothing, did not have good presence at all, and just looked lost. That’s not to say Locker didn’t show some of that Saturday, but I still felt better watching him struggle than I would’ve Gabbert if I were a Jags fan. Best thing for us (*cough*and for the Jags…cough) is Gabbert starts week one, gets scarred for life and goes on to have a mediocre career like a number of Jags QBs.
Meanwhile, we have Hasselbeck all season and then turn the reigns over to Locker next year who doesn’t have to worry about the pressure of starting from the get go as a rookie, though I think he’d actually respond well to it.
he never will wear number 10 - Fernando brazil refering to Locker. Uh...
by ronburgundy7427 on Aug 23, 2011 11:10 AM CDT up reply actions
I just don't see what the rush is to start Sunshine....?
Garrard is above average/pretty good in my opinion (i’ve always liked him as a QB). As you said, Sunshine just looks lost out there. He has one read and just starts dancing around/out of the pocket. His throws looks rushed and never quite sure. Doesn’t seem like he’s leading, he’s just in there playing.
Locker, for a bad game, still looked better overall then Sunshine has on a good game. IMO
The Saint of MCM
by StPrattrick on Aug 23, 2011 11:14 AM CDT up reply actions
Because Jags fans think Garrard sucks and/or is done.
He may be (I don’t think he was ever worth the contract they gave him), but change for the sake of change is not necessarily a good thing (unless it’s replacing a certain head coach after fifty years). I just don’t see Sunshine being able to adapt to the pro game, especially with the lack of weapons on that team, defenses can load up against the run then just tee off on him.

Definitely; I don't think it has anything to do with 'falling out of favor' Fisher-era
instead he’s the ‘low man on the totem pole’ in terms of talent. His versatility is what is keeping him on the team.
But yes, I think this is most definitely a move to start freeing up some money to get this deal done.

Scouts Inc just ranked the players in the NFL
and I saw that CJ was ranked just below Asomugha.
Asomugha signed in Philly for 5 years / $60mln total / $25mln guaranteed.
Peppers was ranked just a couple of spots lower than CJ and he got 6 years / $90mln total / $42mln guaranteed.
Fitzgerald and Joe Thomas were ranked several spots ahead of CJ.
I know this means nothing really, but it’s just interesting to see how other player’s contracts are and how they are ranked (granted, you can’t really rank RBs vs DBs).
Also note that AP was ranked much higher than CJ. Interesting…

But we have a new equation F+Y+H+C= GONE!!!
you have to figure at this point
that CJ and his peeps are gunning for closer to 40 guaranteed than 30. the longer we wait, the more new contracts can potentially push this thing higher and higher. that more than anything might be his agent’s strategy at this point. teams around the league are making it rain on their key guys. that can only be a good thing for Team CJ, and thus a bad thing for Team Titans.
