Tennessee Titans Daily Links: Pay CJ Edition
CJ2K probably isn't going to get a ton of support from the fans for his holdout, but his fellow teammates understand why he isn't there: he gotta get paid. While I'm not a fan of anyone holding out through camp, if this goes on much longer you have to start putting more of it on the Titans. CJ has outplayed his contract for three seasons without much whining. The Titans need to step-up and make things right, and soon.
By all accounts Thorchak did a great job introducing himself and getting the fans revved up yesterday. One of the immediately evident differences with camp this year is a big uptick in the number of evening practices.
Kenny Britt sounds happy to be with the team instead of just waiting for his next court date. I have to admit that I'm a little torn on Britt not getting any punishment for his embarrassing offseason: while a big part of me stands by my stance that the NFL shouldn't be allowed to punish players for misconduct during the lockout, the rest of me is worried that Britt won't lean his lesson until he makes a much bigger mistake...
Nate Washington doesn't think the Titans need a veteran WR to add to the group. Derrick Mason is still on the team's radar, but you get the feeling they're looking for someone who has a little higher ceiling to bring into the mix.
The Big Lead has coverage of the lovefest between Seattle and Matt Hasselbeck as they part ways.
Paul K catches you up on the free agency news from around the division.
Former Titan Courtney Roby has been re-signed by the Saints.

Desean Jackson and Frank Gore are ending their holdouts.
You gotta think that if CJ would just come into camp then they would get this deal done.

Of course NW doesn't see the need for a vet receiver...
He IS one!

He doesn't want any OTHER guy being the ball dropper for us.

Didn't he say the same thing last year when we added Moss
sounded like he was a little bitter
The Saint of MCM
My guess would be:
“insecure”.
That said, I thought NW improved and came through some last year. He’s pretty harshly criticized here. At this point my opinion would be that Gage has been more inconsistent than Nate.
According to FO
They are both pretty low catch rate wise. Washington at 45% and Gage at 47%. Of guys who caught more than 50 passes in 2010, NW is towards the bottom of the list in terms of catch percentage. Gage isn’t on the list at all (43 passes for 1 td).
NW had 6 tds for us, though. Despite the catch percentage stat it still seemed like he contributed more consistently last year than he was given credit for.
My only problem with Hands (besides his penchant for dropping the ball)
Is his “I make too much money to care about you” attitude.
Once you let that out of the bag, you aren’t gonna get me back.

"Our depth chart this year:

2) Not Vince Young
3) Not Vince Young
Looks like we upgraded."
I hadn't heard that
Assume that is about his attitude toward the younger WRs?
You know, if so Mason would be an upgrade from both perspectives. Mason had a much better catch percentage last year with as many touchdowns and double the total receptions.
Interesting anecdote heard on the radio...
On “3 Hour Lunch” in Nashville, Jonathon Hutton (Titans Radio guy) talked about coaches are running meetings a little differently so as not to have “cliques” develop based on positions, apparently that was something that they wanted to change from past years.
Good evening. I'm Ron Burgundy, and here's what's happening in your world tonight.
There was a quote in the Chattanooga paper yesterday attributed to Michael Griffin
Where he said right after Munchak got the job, they passed in the hall and Munchak stopped him and said “You have been on the team for 3 years and we have never spoken. I need to change that.”
That seemed really strange to me.

Indeed.
Obviously positional coaches are going to have the most interaction with their group, and those palyers are going to be closer because of how much time they spend together, but it almost sounded like there was an “exclusiveness” of sorts where players stuck to their positional groups for the most part and there wasn’t as much team camaraderie. Maybe it was a byproduct of that “country club” atmosphere that allegedly was going on.

Part of that's on Munch
He talked recently about how he’d never really watched 7-on-7 practice in camp, because he and Wash and the OL and DL would go hang out by the Gatorade.

I'd really like to give a stern talking to
To the Panther’s GM, because we’re going to have to pay quite a bit more than they did for DeAngelo Williams. That set the market for good running backs, now imagine what a star like CJ would want.

They really didnt set the market.
CJ already had stated he wants 30-40 mill in guarantee money.
