Kansas City Chiefs DT Shaun Smith Says He is Coming to the Titans
Were are my titans fans at let's go its time to win the divison and get this thing going can't wait to meet my teammates it feels weird but
Shaun Smith, formerly of the Kansas City Chiefs, just posted on his Twitter page that he is signing with the Tennessee Titans:
Were are my titans fans at let's go its time to win the divison and get this thing going can't wait to meet my teammates it feels weird but
Smith fits the bill of what Jerry Gray wants to do in beefing up the offensive line at 6-2 325.
I asked Joel Thorman of Arrowhead Pride for some thoughts on Smith. Click through the jump to see what he had to say.
I think the Titans are going to really like Shaun Smith. He's had some issues in the past but he had a solid year for the Chiefs and brought some personality to the team. You'll notice one thing quickly -- he likes to talk. A lot. He interacts with fans on his Twitter page quite a bit and will provide some entertaining quotes in the media. He's funny but knows when to shut up and play so it's not a distraction. On the field, he was a big boost to the Chiefs last season. He played defensive end in the Chiefs 3-4 defense and while that's supposed to be one of those unsung positions Smith usually made you notice him. He was aggressive and frequently disrupted the opponent's offensive line. He was clearly among the Chiefs best defensive linemen so this is a disappointment to lose him.
It is good to see the fanbase of the team he is leaving upset about the loss.

Is this the same guy who played for Detroit and Cleveland and had some attitude issues?
Or am I getting him mixed up with anouther Shaun? (and Shaun Rogers is not who I am thinking of either)

you're confusing him with shaun rogers
by all accounts, shaun smith is a bit of a personality but not to the point where it’s detrimental.
I'm pretty sure it is Smith I'm thinking of.
As the new story attests to and the comments below about him punching Brady Quinn…which I’m quite ok with.

"unsung" seems to be the adjective for several of or defensive linemen
One of the top defensive lineman from a decent defensive team last year is always a good sign

I do actually think we are going to be better than many expect
Especially on the defensive side

This is true.
A beefier D Line, a decent QB, possibly some better wideouts, and CJ2k (hopefully) I can see the playoffs in our future. possibly

It´s good that the expectations are very low.
I´m certain that the we are going to be a lot better than expected.
I hope we do better....
then what the great Mel Kiper predicts for us (worst team in football)
if our defense is able to play
then i don’t care as much about the record. i just don’t want us getting rolled over every week. i like old school smash mouth football. since it’s disappearing on the offensive side across the league, let’s keep it on the D.

It’s pretty clear we’re moving to a hybrid 3-4. Cullen Jenkins please? But truthfully…Give me 3 of Waters, Dahl, Goldsen, Pollard, Ruud, Barnett, Dhani Jones (very underrated),. I’ll be ecstatic.
Basically gives you what Tullock does for way cheaper. Tackling machine. Last 3 years 116, 113, 125 tackles.
But 33 years old.. he´s not getting any younger.
I don´t like Tulloch all that much, but he can still get better.
People cried about this guy being dirty
I like that. I don’t want a soft ass D line

And while we're bolstering the "D".....
Maybe look at Aubrayo Franklin (NT)….just in case we toy around with the 3-4….and Dawan Landry (S)….cuz our secondary could really use a shot in the arm. What do you think guys?

If you had to be perfect to do what we do, then nobody would be doing it. On the other hand, if everyone could do what we do.....then everyone would be doing it.
Bernard Pollard is awful in pass coverage.
Go ask the Texans fans.

Thats a pretty loaded statement.
I’m pretty sure SS do also have to cover. I don’t want to sign anybody that started in the worst pass defense in football history.

Pollard is not just bad in coverage, he's a straight up liability
And he takes terrible angles to the ball carrier, and misses tackles he should make.
People get wowed by his occasional highlight reel hits, and he does lay the wood sometimes. But he’ll cost you more big plays than he’ll ever stop.
The Chiefs and I have mutually agreed on this decision and although I look forward to continuing my career, I’ll always have a special place in my heart for Kansas City.
Landry is going to the Jags.
