Yes football is back... I'm happier than a pig in shit right now... The whole summer of having Hunter S. Thompson like thoughts as it seemed more and more like this season WAS NOT gonna happen ... and Finally we are given the grand gift of football... top that off with being granted membership to this SB nation blog where we can have an open debate on things related to my favorite small market team that IS NOT in my area. I feel like crying right now...
Anyways the debates are fun, I enjoy looking dumb as much as I do screaming what little football knowledge I got on top of my domepiece... but, one little opinion keeps nagging at me. On every thread I comment on that mentions our chances next year they always make the same claim... We're in rebuild mode, it doesn't matter who we get we're still gonna lose... well i have to say, THAT'S A BUNCH OF FRIGGIN MALARCKY!!!! Rebuilding is an excuse for a coach to field a team that sucks and not care if they win. Mostly it's a pile of bull.... well you get the point Dude, what makes you think that rebuilding is actually a good excuse to lose. Do these players think that they are in rebuild mode... NO, do our coaches (maybe) does anybody understand how this game works... Each team in the offseason gets the same opportunity to draft the same players, to sign the same free agents, to do whatever they want within the rules...
Ok so our team wasn't exactly perfect last year, that's cool, but there was so much we did right, that we can capitalize on... first, our defense. While it hasn't been the best defense in recent memory, when they got reasonable time of possession in their favor they did quite well. We did lead the league in Sacks the first half of the season, and we were the best scoring defense during that time... and well we sorta shot ourselves in the foot in other areas... ok, you defense gets a three and out... 5 actual minutes (not game minutes) later the running back hits a 75 yard run... while it's awesome your offense can do that... sort of doesn't give you time to rest.... couple that with an impending QB controversy in the wings and you have a tired D and a useless offense ran by a Velociraffe (whoever came up with that is friggin awesome)
Excuses aside our team still sucked the second half of the season, and that's when we should have at least tried to be mediocre... we have some things to work on, but hey the Green Bay Packers have things to work on and they're the Champs... one, we might need a new HC... check did that... New coordinators would help to... got those... New QB definitely... got one Vet and rookie waiting in the wings... hmm now all we have to do is fill any other serious need in free agency... trust the FO to do that. So outside of that, what's there to rebuild, is there something wrong with our stadium? Or is there a new owner who wants to change our approach. We just need to tweak what we did wrong last year, no team is perfect, no team scores every offensive drive and stops every defensive drive, but we sure are competitive, let's see what this batch of Titans can do before we brand them losers for this year... because I as a fan am not rebuilding my love for this team.
