Tennessee Titans Daily Links: Ayers Hanging On To The ATV Edition
Alterraun Verner is already working with Akeem Ayers to get the rookie ready for his first NFL training camp. Even better news: the article mentions that Verner got a copy of the new playbook during that two day period where the lockout was off, so he and Ayers are actually working on Gray's notes and system. I'd hoped the Titans did their job and got these guys as much info as they could, and it certainly sounds like that's the case.
Nice job by PFW to read the same Tennessean story I linked above and repackage a few of the comments about what Ayers brings to the table as 'inside information'. Mike Florio would be proud.
PFF interviews Titans safety Robert Johnson, who does a great job talking about his rough upbringing and swerving to avoid Chris Hope after the interviewer tried to throw him under the bus.
Congrats to Orlando news station WFTV for completely overstating CJ's recent tweets as "Lashes Out Against Orlando Police".
Andrew Perloff takes a look at the top senior talents for next year's draft.
The Texans are taking perhaps the best 4-3 DE in the league, and completely changing his playing weight and defensive responsibilities. And, that's why they're the Texans.
How much does Harbaugh think of Andrew Luck? He's having the Stanford QB actually teach the new 49ers coach's offense to rookie Colin Kaepernick.
The next big date sure to disappoint NFL fans is June 3rd.
Ann Killion writes about how bad of a hit the NFL is already taking in the court of public opinion, even though the league is nowhere near losing games yet. She makes a great point that the combination of suppressing proof of the impact of head injuries on NFL players, getting thrashed over benefits for veterans and now the loss after loss in the lockout make for a bad couple of years in terms of popularity for NFL owners.

"Apparel company dumps Mendenhall over bin Laden tweets"
Champion is a strong supporter of the government’s efforts to fight terrorism and is very appreciative of the dedication and commitment of the U.S. Armed Forces. Earlier this week, Rashard Mendenhall(notes), who endorses Champion products, expressed personal comments and opinions regarding Osama bin Laden and the September 11 terrorist attacks that were inconsistent with the values of the Champion brand and with which we strongly disagreed. In light of these comments, Champion was obliged to conduct a business assessment to determine whether Mr. Mendenhall could continue to effectively communicate on behalf of and represent Champion with consumers. While we respect Mr. Mendenhall’s right to express sincere thoughts regarding potentially controversial topics, we no longer believe that Mr. Mendenhall can appropriately represent Champion and we have notified Mr. Mendenhall that we are ending our business relationship. Champion has appreciated its association with Mr. Mendenhall during his early professional football career and found him to be a dedicated and conscientious young athlete. We sincerely wish him all the best.

Really happy ATV nabbed a playbook.
This lockout is screwing us pretty bad, hopefully we can try to reduce some of the damage.

I am glad ATV is stepping up
Maybe this time will start building new leaders on defense like ATV and eventually Ayers!

It seems we're getting most of our leadership from our CBs
We could desperately use leadership in the front seven.

What would Couch have to do with the 2003 Texans?

if he used the playbook in 2003 for David Carr,
the QB that previously used that playbook or a close variation was Tim Couch.

I'm on page 95 of 362, and it's becoming more clear why Palmer was hired by Munchak.
The blocking schemes and line checks are incredibly involved.

Link, here.
That site is great, in general, with a whole slew of documents from all sorts of coaches camps. Additionally, there’s a good number of pro playbooks on the site.
Watch out Palmer

ATV actually does not have a new playbook
And he says so in the article.
He mentions he talked to Marcus Robertson about the things that might change from last years’ playbook, but that is what they are working out of.

So...anyone else see the Young-to-Redskins rumor?
i can’t see it happening, but it’s a rumor that’s been put out there.

I couldn't believe it when I heard the Texans were moving Mario Williams.
What is their problem? Do they actually like losing?
"Do the Titans have a miracle left in them in what has been a magical season to this point? If they do, they need it now. Christie kicks it high and short. Gonna be fielded by Lorenzo Neal at the 25; he dishes it back to Wycheck; he throws it across the field to Dyson. 30, 40, 50, 40, 30, 20, 10, 5, endzone...touchdown, Titans! There are no flags on the field! It's a miracle! Tennessee has pulled a miracle! A miracle for the Titans!"

Wade Phillips is a genius
take your best player who completely dominates his position and change his position and playing weight in an offseason where the players can’t meet with coaches. Yep, the recipe for Houston success.

It would be nice.
But from the sounds of the article, he will be focusing on FS.

He definitely sounds motivated and can back it up with actions...
that’s an attitude that I will embrace, with open arms, in Nashville, TN. The Titans only drafted one DB in the draft, and I really think that speaks some volume to the confidence that the new coaching staff has in the Titans current, available secondary. Griffin, Hope, Finnegan, McCourty, Verner, Schommer, Johnson, Rolle, Fuller, (don’t forget Rod hood), and others…. there’s got to be a starting four out of all of that…. not to mention that Tommie Campbell’s presence promises some degree of moderate competition in what will eventually be some sort of training camp. I am very interested to see RJ’s progression from year one to year two.
Football.

University of Washington fan here
We go by UW, not WU. That being said, have fun with Jake, damn I’m going to miss watching him play. I’ll be rooting for Jake and the Titans from now on (until they play the Hawks in the super bowl, in which case I’m going to be extremely conflicted).
