Will Chris Hope Be Back With the Titans in 2011?
The Chris Hope discussion has been brought up many times here during this offseason. Pro Football Weekly brought the Hope topic up earlier this week noting that he is scheduled to make $6.5 million in salary in 2011, plus a $500,000 roster bonus. That is a high price to pay for a guy that is in the decline years of his career.
The PFW article mentions that Jerry Gray could try playing him closer to the line of scrimmage, which would no doubt be better for Hope, but that is still a steep price to pay. There is a chance the Titans could cut him and bring him back for less money, but they are going to do something about that contract.
The article also says that the Titans aren't big spenders in free agency so they won't go after guys like Eric Weddle and Melvin Bullitt. It is true that they aren't big spenders in free agency, but I don't think that is the reason they won't go after those guys. I think they will do their best to make one of the guys they already have on the roster, Nick Schommer, Robert Johnson, Myron Rolle or Tommie Campbell, before they look at bringing in anyone new.
Of course there is always the chance that Jerry Gray hates all of those guys and loves Weddle. These are the types of questions that we are left to sit and ponder until the lockout ends. I hate the lockout.

I'm fine keeping him as a back-up at a lower price.
But he should not be starting for us, at all.
Ain't no time for hesitatin'
All you got to do is groove

I could see him being used more like Bishop was back in the day.
A line-of-scrimmage guy that is. I can’t see him still here at that price, ideally he takes a pay cut and maybe becomes more of a situational guy, doubt he’d do that though. It’d be nice to keep his veteran presence around, but I just don’t see him sticking at that number.
As far as free agency…I don’t want to necessarily break the bank, but if Weddle or Bullitt can be signed to a deal similar to what Hope got back in 2006, would it not be worth it? This team does have some cap room to work with.
Good evening. I'm Ron Burgundy, and here's what's happening in your world tonight.

Ww should go with...
Out young guys we have four of them and they all have potential. I say let them battle it out, I feel that they all have a fair chance with this new coaching staff.

There comes a time in every pro athlete's career when he has to come to the realization that.....
it’s time to hang up the cleats. For Hope….that time is now.

If you had to be perfect to do what we do, then nobody would be doing it. On the other hand, if everyone could do what we do.....then everyone would be doing it.

chris hope is doing one of three things on every play
1. missing a tackle
2. out of position in pass coverage
3. committing pass interferance penalty…….thats all he does

people are real quick to bash Hope
but I think we need to question Griffin’s play just as much. I hope Schommer gets a shot to compete for SS, and we sign a FS to make Griffin compete for his job
Patrick Peterson= Next Deion Sanders. Julio Jones sucks.
Your Sick!
Griffin is far from the problem! How about fix the problems around him so he’s not killing himself trying to make up for missed assignments? Griffin is probably the best defender we have on defense!

No,
Griffin is not the problem. Every player has their flaws, but Hope has far too many of them. He is not good in coverage, bites on play action when he has No business doing, and misses tackles that he shouldn’t. Griff knows his responsibilities at least, Hope seems like a lost cause.
GO TITANS!!!

Griffin still wasn't himself last year.
He made strides, but by all accounts, he was being covered for a lot…
"Do the Titans have a miracle left in them in what has been a magical season to this point? If they do, they need it now. Christie kicks it high and short. Gonna be fielded by Lorenzo Neal at the 25; he dishes it back to Wycheck; he throws it across the field to Dyson. 30, 40, 50, 40, 30, 20, 10, 5, endzone...touchdown, Titans! There are no flags on the field! It's a miracle! Tennessee has pulled a miracle! A miracle for the Titans!"

^This
I don’t think we should just automatically hand him the job
Patrick Peterson= Next Deion Sanders. Julio Jones sucks.
Griffin has tons of potential!
With a little help other than cover 4 coverage every play he will be an elite SS in this league. They only guys beating him to the pro bowl are polumalu and Ed Reed!
but griff is a FS
but then again they did use him at hopes positions on the field
