Tennessee Titans Daily Links: Inspiration and Desperation Edition
Paul K muses on Jerry Gray's expected defensive scheme, and the possibility of missing in some 3-4 looks with the guys we took in the draft. Of course, Gray has already mentioned the idea of mixing in some different looks with the front seven, but you have to be careful about confusing 'getting bigger' with 'switching schemes'.
Colin Allred, Dave Ball, Jake Scott, Ken Amato and Jovan Haye attended a ceremony to present all new equipment to Columbia Central High School's football team. Anyone who lives in middle Tennessee has to remember the heart-wrenching story of Dylan Rebeor, the Columbia Central player who lost his fight with colon cancer back in December, and how his illness and passing inspired his teammates to win the school's first state championship since 1952. Dylan's final wish was that the team get new equipment, and the Make-A-Wish Foundation raised the funds to make it happen.
More talk, no action. Jesus I'm even more over this lockout now that it's in the abysmal morass of the U.S. legal system.
Former-Titan Brad Hopkins says the players are going to crumble now that the lockout has become a war of attrition.
John Glennon talks with several Titans about how they feel about the latest lockout development.
Peyton Manning is getting flack from an Indy columnist for refusing to talk to the media about his offseason workouts.
Wow, these rankings are largely horrible. Anyone who thinks the Titans have the 3rd best tackle combo in the AFC South, but the absolutely best Guard combo should absolutely stick to coloring. Nice to see the quality of analysis at Stampede Blue is the same.

When the BBS supporters acknowledge that the article is complete crap,
you know you’ve reached a new level of failure.
Roos and Stewart may not have played as well last year, but they are clearly the best tackles in the division. Even the Texans got shafted, their OTs are definitely better than the Colts.
Solid kindergarten logic:
“Hey look, we drafted rookie linemen, they play for the Colts and I cheer for the Colts, which means they’re the best!”

This article gets better and better.
He’s got our WRs ranked 4th, behind the Jags, for whom he lists Mike Sims-Walker, Michael Thomas, Kassim Osgood, and Cecil Shorts.
MSW was cut, Osgood is a special teams guy and Cecil Shorts is a late round pick. Way to do your homework.

Have they even had a first round pick that has produced anything since Joseph Addai in 2006?

The Colts have been surviving on Manning's ability
Kind of like the Dolphins with Marino at QB in late 80s / early 90s…if it wasn’t for Manning, the Colts would be a sub-.500 team.

I cannot wait for his retirement.
I may have to throw a party on that glorious day. That team has been slowly crumbling, if they can’t find some franchise cornerstones soon, they’re going to be awful for a long time.

They really are.
Manning is the reason they’ve persevered the past couple of years. As much as I hate to say it, it’s a testament to how good he really is that they’ve stayed at that high level (perhaps Freeney/Mathis get some credit too). How many other teams would be able to make good contributors out of Austin Collie, Pierre Garcon and Jacob Tamme?
Having said that…I look forward to the day he retires and all those Colts jerseys that magically appear at Titans games when they play (and happen to be number 18) will go away.
Good evening. I'm Ron Burgundy, and here's what's happening in your world tonight.

Slowly crumbling?
Lol. We reached the SB two years ago, and if not for a rash of terrible injuries on both sides of the ball would’ve challenged this year

I know we didn't
how does that constitue slowly crumbling though? Not going 12-4 (again)?
I think it’ll be fair to say we’re slowly crumbling when we don’t make the playoffs, or our performance drops dramatically, year on year. It’ll happen eventually, but it hasn’t already begun.
The context of the discussion is when Pey Pey eventually leaves
there will be few/nothing keeping the Colts competitive, the building blocks of the Colts are slowly starting to fade away.
The Saint of MCM
When Manning retires
We may already have our QB of the future on the roster, and I bet you ten cents to the dollar he’ll be better than Locker ;)
Anyway, i’ll take a few years of mediocrity after the amazing run we’ve had. Tis better to have loved and lost, than to have never loved at all. I’m sure one day you’ll match what this team has accomplished and you’ll understand that too.
Listen, ask nearly anyone around here and they won't disagree that Pey Pey is probably one of the greatest QB's of our generation
other then being a whinny bitch and somehow being able to tell the NFL how to officiate the game (or where to place refs) he is still probably the greatest Regular Season QB to date.
That being said, the only way the Colts have accomplished these things you speak of are pretty much because of Pey Pey. If it weren’t for him, you’d be back at 3-13. It’s always nice having a once in a generation player on your team…
Also, I highly doubt Curtis Painter is better then Locker and truly hope he is your “Future QB”.
The Saint of MCM
I said "When Manning retires," not now. Curtish Painter is crap.
I find your first sentence highly ironic, though.
Obviously the only way we have been able to accomplish things is because of him, you could make that rather obvious claim about the best player on any great team. It goes without saying.
That is my point, that he is a once in a generation type of player
plug him into nearly any team and he would more then likely produce the same… (well, probably not any team… Raiders ) ha
The Saint of MCM
I wouldn't discount the Raiders

what disarms that team is the coaching staff/owner… regardless how much talent and ability they have on that team it is wasted with awful awful coaching.

At best they’re that “H-back” type. If we’re talking true fullback, it comes down to Texans or Titans.

WOW
THE COLTS
Man they only got 2 right-QB and RB. Completely worthless.
And I disagree with PK on the 4-3/3-4. Yes 4-3 will be our base. But our “undersized DEs” would be ideal OLBs in a 3-4. Not enough to run it consistetly, but enough to do it 2-4 times/game when we have a shot to make a play from it.

Now that I've managed to stop laughing at Stampede Blue,
Paul K just put up an article on Locker. Fair warning, this is a major puff piece, however I did find one line really interesting.
"I’ll be surprised if there is a college quarterback more mentally prepared for the NFL than Jake Locker is. We do it all. He does all the protections, Mike IDs, change of protections, we kill plays, we auto plays, we audible plays. We have a very pro-style approach at the line of scrimmage and we handle all that stuff beautifully, which we had to do.
Its certainly a positive that Locker has the intelligence to handle all those playcalls, audibles, and various challenges an NFL QB will face.

B.S. About Our Tackles
Roos has 97 straight starts and has NEVER missed a game. Over that course of time, he has 3 holding penalties. Yep, a grand total of 3 of them over how many seasons. Can ANY other LT in the AFC South claim that?
I will be posting at the Colts board to challenge that part of the evaluation over the next day or so.

some of the guys there seem to TRY to be rational
most do not. And they receive an epic fail for not noting the styles of the offense or YPC. Blaine’s production in college would be like seeing a run-n-shoot QB throw 16 TD’s and 3k yartds. Abysmal. Want truth? Compare VY’s college stats to Gabbert’s. You will find that VY outperformed Gabbert by 5 draft rounds.
And what’s the deal with them bashing Dalton? The kid carried a TCU team for 4 seasons and put them in the national spotlight.

Those rankings are terrible.
Sheesh… Those Colts fans can’t think straight. Ahmard isn’t better than Jones or Leach, but he’s better than Tamme and Eldridge. Just the fact that they have to use two backs makes him better. They have us as the 3rd best tackle combo. I’m not sure there’s a better combo than Roos and Big Country in the whole league, let alone the AFC south.
I'm not opinionated. I just have an ego that you can't handle.
Hall is just as good as the other two
He didn’t even mention Roos or Stewart in his explamation, probably because Monroe was a high draft pick. My favorite part was the tool analogy “do you buy the most powerful drill or the ones with the most parts?” Neither you get the best drill and the Titans have the two best drills in the league.
I have nothing else to add other than ridiculous Colts homerism.
And that is a damn contributor! What a shame.
