Best Titans Draft Picks, No. 1: CB Cortland Finnegan
Over the next few weeks heading up to the draft we will be highlighting the biggest busts and greatest picks in the history of the Titans. I have decided to only look at the picks the franchise has made since the move to Tennessee instead of trying to look back at the entire history of the franchise.
Now we will countdown the top 10 best picks in franchise history.
Most of you have already figured out that Cortland Finnegan is the #1 player on this list. I know Finny struggled last year, but you can't argue that he was a fantastic find for this organization with the 215th pick in the 2006 NFL Draft. So before you got HATTEN on this pick name me another corner drafted in the 7th round that has been to a Pro Bowl and named to an All-Pro team. I will be here waiting..
Top 10 Busts:
#10 Shad Meier
#9 Tyrone Calico
#8 Ben Troupe
#7 Courtney Roby
#6 Paul Williams
#5 Kevin Dyson
#4 Chris Henry
#3 Andre Woolfolk
#2 Adam Jones
#1 Vince Young
Top 10 Successes:
#10 Marc Mariani
#9 Bo Scaife
#8 Jevon Kearse
#7 Albert Haynesworth
#6 Keith Bulluck
#5 Michael Roos
#4 David Stewart
#3 Chris Johnson
#2 Derrick Mason

tell me how it is!
Can't argue with it at all.
I personally love Finnegan and the way he plays, though I think he did let it get to his head somewhat this past year. He’s still one of my favorites and hopefully will fill that intensity/leadership void left by Vanden Bosch and Bulluck.

Wish KB was back.
Think he would have let Finny get into all that mess if he had been on the field? I doubt it.
Seriously? Yeah right.
Last Year alone:
In September 2010, Finnegan was fined $5,000 for throwing New York Giants wide receiver Steve Smith to the ground by his helmet. In October 2010, Finnegan was fined $10,000 for unnecessary roughness after hitting Denver Broncos guard Chris Kuper after Kuper’s helmet was off. After this incident, the NFL warned Finnegan that similar violations in the future could lead to increased discipline. On November 28, 2010, Finnegan was involved in a fist fight with Houston Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson. Each player was ejected, and each subsequently fined $25,000.
Time for Finnegan to grow up and play like he did his lone Probowl year.
No way in hell this guy is number one. Chris Johnson has to be number 1.
Difference of one being a 7th round pick and one being a 1st rounder.

CJ was still a better pick than Finnegan. Cj's much better.

and was expected to be.
here’s the thing: THIS ISN’T A MEASURE OF WHO THE BEST PLAYER WAS. if that were the case, we’d probably be looking at a list of McNair, George, Johnson, Bulluck, etc. but we’re not, this is purely from a value standpoint. give me a list of the most successful seventh round picks ever and I think Finnegan is probably in the top 10 depending on how the rest of his career plays out.

Yeah...except as a first rounder, you'd expect Johnson to be successful.
Granted, he’s probably exceeded expectations…but he was still a first-round pick. How many 7th rounders become long-term, quality starters and have the awards Finnegan does?

I agree Finnegan has done well for a 7th rounder…but we reached for CJ late in the first and hit a home run. I was incredibily mad we took CJ in the first….I was incredulous. But he and they proved me wrong.

How do his fines suddenly make him a worse player?

Indicitive of his horrible play last year.
Finnegan was more concerned with being a dirty player than actually being a good player.
And he seriously enjoys being a dirty player….he said that in an article. I am sick and tired of him costing us 15 yard penalities because he has a Napolean complex. I could barely stand it was in he was playing well and made the probowl. He needs to get his act together.

The fines were part of being Postered by the league
Every thing he did was under an extreme microscope. He gets under peoples skin and he fights back. Sometimes he goes a little overboard but it’s football. I’ve never seen Finny actually try to hurt someone outside of defending himself or a team mate. He didn’t play horrible last year. His team as a whole did.
Case in point: Andre Johnson averages only 60 yrds a game when lined up against Finny.
You're hilarious.
“Indicative of his horribly play”. What an idiotic line.

I dont know how anyone can argue with this.
I think people just focus on this year instead of seeing it as a whole.

And this year he was being used wierdly
Doing stuff he wasn’t used to so that we could use our younger corners better. I remember there being a video at the beginning of the season that said he was practicing switching sides and stuff so he could cover the #1 receiver all the time.
All we need is a miracle....
I do.
6 years in the league…13 int’s with 10 in 2 years. So he had one probowl year and one other good year….last year he was awful. lets see how he does this year. hopefully he’ll return to form. but i dont think that warrants him being our best draft pick ever even if it was in the 7th round.

Nnamdi Asomugha: 8 years in the league and 11 picks.
GET THAT SCRUB OFF THE FIELD!

How is that Steve McNair is not even on this list?

This only covered players drafted since the move to Tennessee…McNair/George were drafted by the Houston Oilers.

He's one of my favorite players.
I really hope he turns it around this year.
"Do the Titans have a miracle left in them in what has been a magical season to this point? If they do, they need it now. Christie kicks it high and short. Gonna be fielded by Lorenzo Neal at the 25; he dishes it back to Wycheck; he throws it across the field to Dyson. 30, 40, 50, 40, 30, 20, 10, 5, endzone...touchdown, Titans! There are no flags on the field! It's a miracle! Tennessee has pulled a miracle! A miracle for the Titans!"

I like it
Finney is a great player when he’s got his head screwed on right. He is, IMO, one of the best corners in the NFL right now.
I live in the OC.
The one in OH.
For all asking
Steve McNair was not eligible here because he was drafted while the franchise was in Houston. We only considered picks from years when the team had Tennessee in front of his name. For the record, Steve McNair is my all-time favorite football player and always will be.
