Based on my limited knowledge, sleep apnea is not anything genetic or hereditary..... and it's generally caused by being overweight... usually well overweight. Although this would help explain his inconsistent motor in college, it's not an attractive ailment to be dealing with at age 23! This speaks to Fairley general fitness, health and life habits. Not a good sign this is a huge red flag to me.
