Best Titans Draft Picks, No. 6: LB Keith Bulluck
Over the next few weeks heading up to the draft we will be highlighting the biggest busts and greatest picks in the history of the Titans. I have decided to only look at the picks the franchise has made since the move to Tennessee instead of trying to look back at the entire history of the franchise.
Now we will countdown the top 10 best picks in franchise history.
Keith Bulluck comes in at #6. He was taken 30th overall in the 200 draft. There were a lot of rumors after the draft that the Titans never thought Bulluck would be available to them at 30 but took him because he was really high on the board (one of the benefits of having a really good team without a lot of needs).
Bulluck was never as dominant as guys like Jevon Kearse and Albert Haynesworth, but he was a really good player for this team for almost a decade. It is a travishamockery that he only made one Pro Bowl.
Top 10 Busts:
#10 Shad Meier
#9 Tyrone Calico
#8 Ben Troupe
#7 Courtney Roby
#6 Paul Williams
#5 Kevin Dyson
#4 Chris Henry
#3 Andre Woolfolk
#2 Adam Jones
#1 Vince Young
Top 10 Successes:
#10 Marc Mariani
#9 Bo Scaife
#8 Jevon Kearse
#7 Albert Haynesworth

Only #7?
I’m interested to see who the top 6 are, now. I would have thought KB would be in the running for the top spot.
"Do the Titans have a miracle left in them in what has been a magical season to this point? If they do, they need it now. Christie kicks it high and short. Gonna be fielded by Lorenzo Neal at the 25; he dishes it back to Wycheck; he throws it across the field to Dyson. 30, 40, 50, 40, 30, 20, 10, 5, endzone...touchdown, Titans! There are no flags on the field! It's a miracle! Tennessee has pulled a miracle! A miracle for the Titans!"

CJ will be in the top 5.
Eddie and Steve were both draft back in Houston so they wont be on the list. If they were they would be one, two, and you know the order that it’d be.

Yeah, good point.
What I said still stands, though. I’m having trouble putting my finger on 5 better picks.

Even if he only made 1 pro bowl
hes still my all time favorite titan
he really got shafted by the fact that he wasn't asked to rush the passer
but he was one of the best at playing the run and covering in the passing game.

Yep.
He was the prototypical 4-3 OLB. One of the best in the game for a lot of years.

Pro Bowl is overrated anyways.
Especially at LB where 3-4 guys generally dominate because they get to rush the passer and get sacks, thus getting publicity. All of us can take solace in knowing how good Bulluck was.

I got a KB jersey
It got messed up a couple years back but I still keep it in my closet. Lots of good games with that jersey. Good player and a good guy.
I live in the OC.
The one in OH.
Agreed.
But still.

Check out Bulluck's real thoughts on this!!!
I sent him Jimmy’s tweet for this post. This is what he responded with.
“@kbull53 keith bulluck:
@oHIoBrent @TitansMCM interested 2 c the full list…def don’t feel I’m #1,jus curious 2 c the top 5. Wondering if I played w/any of them…”
IMO he has to be top5. Never missed a game till final season. Leader of the D for majority of his tenure. Led team in tackles most years. If Mac&Eddie dont count on this list since they were from the HOU years, hard to believe there are 6 guys better than 53.
Before I do anything I ask myself "Would an idiot do that?" And if the answer is yes, I do not do that thing.

On a side note, I hate that they gave Curran #53.
I like the kid, but he hasnt EARNED that #.

that gave it to him because he was 35 in college as well
as they asked if he wanted it, and he said he’ll think about it. then they just put it in his locker the next day

I mean, it’s kind of a given that he’s played with all of them unless it ends up being another player from this year’s draft, I doubt any of the players on this list were on the team in ‘97 but weren’t in ’00.

I think he's top 5 as well
As solid as NFL LBs come. A real great leader and player. IMO one of the top 5 LBs in the NFL over the past decade…
I live in the OC.
The one in OH.
I think that was his suttle way of asking who was ahead of him, lol.

One of the most versatile linebackers in the past decade.
A truly tremendous Titan.

Some serious beefs here...
Bulluck was not a really good player… He was a great player. Please go find me a 4-3 OLB with the combination of the numbers he put up in this era. We all know he was snubbed big time when it came to pro bowls… No he’s being snubbed on our site. Its a shame. He was as dominant as an outside Linebacker could be. On top of the numbers he was a top notch leader. He was the McNair/Eddie of the defense. He deserves better for sure

you gotta remember
this list isn’t top ten favorite titans…. it’s best draft picks. your name kind of lends you to some bias haha… don’t get me wrong though, Bulluck is like my favorite player ever.

funny...
You assume he is my favorite Titan ever based on my name lol… I’ve mentioned the reason for this name in the past. McNair and Eddie are my favorite Titans ever.
by Big Bad Bulluck on Apr 23, 2011 7:33 PM CDT up reply actions
but he was a first round draft pick, one that probably should’ve been taken earlier, that kind of fell into our laps. as far as value goes, he played above and slightly beyond his draft status. Finnegan will most likely be higher on this list because, simply, he was taken late and exceeded his expected value tenfold.

just realized how stupid that looks. should read: he played above at and slightly beyond his draft status.

possible top 5
stewart, roos, rolle, mason, CJ
I assume Mason and Rolle count since they were drafted by the Tennessee Oilers, can a contributer confirm or deny that?

I'm an idiot, I totally left out Finnegan so let me redo this...
Roos, Finnegan, Rolle, mason, CJ
and I think I can confirm that Derrick Mason and Samari Rolle would count because Kevin Dyson was on the list for busts and he was drafted by the Tennessee Oilers.

What exactly is the criteria here?
like what would put these guys ahead of Bulluck?
by Big Bad Bulluck on Apr 22, 2011 8:38 PM CDT up reply actions
pro bowl appearances, dominance at the position, and where they were drafted
bulluck was #30, Roos #41, Finnegan #215, Rolle #46, Mason #98, and CJ just because he went so low in the first round and then two years later he runs for 2K.

Anyone that includes Pro Bowl appearances
as a criteria on any subject cannot be taken seriously. Keith Bulluck and Fred Taylor got more than fucked.
Bulluck was a better player than everyone you just named. CJ remains to be seen.
by Big Bad Bulluck on Apr 23, 2011 7:35 PM CDT up reply actions
Roos hasn't made up
and 11 pick difference. Rolle was never near the player Bulluck was, and the pick difference isn’t justifiable in that case. I don’t care what CJ has run for, he has a lot left to prove.
by Big Bad Bulluck on Apr 23, 2011 7:41 PM CDT up reply actions
Oh and Bulluck was more dominant
at his position than anyone you just named

I think you have look at where they were drafted and the production they had as a Titan.

Something to keep in mind as we go forward
This isn’t top 10 best players picked. It is top 10 picks. That means guys that are really good players who were taken in later rounds will be higher on the list than a first rounder who was really good.
Titans Blogger at Music City Miracles even though gramsey hates it.
ok
That makes sense. I will have to see the list before passing judgment.
I will say that I don’t really see a player in the 1st rounds being as productive as he was. His value was pretty much priceless in my opinion.

All Hail the Preying Mantis!!
List is flawed!! KB ate people alive on the field. Never got the recognition he deserved because people like Ray Lewis and Suggs were the popular picks. Probably the 2nd best linebacker in the league in his prime and the best at what he was asked to do. He absolutely led the defense. Remember when Finny got out of hand and KB put him in his place? I remember him as a Titan for everything he brought to the field as a player and a leader.
