Best Titans Draft Picks, No. 7: DT Albert Haynesworth
Over the next few weeks heading up to the draft we will be highlighting the biggest busts and greatest picks in the history of the Titans. I have decided to only look at the picks the franchise has made since the move to Tennessee instead of trying to look back at the entire history of the franchise.
Now we will countdown the top 10 best picks in franchise history.
We left Albert Haynesworth (15th overall in 2002) off the list when we did best picks of the decade and took some heat for it. After looking back at the people on the list, we decided that he absolutely had to be on it. Sure there were a lot of problems surrounding Albert while he was here, but he was the most dominant defensive player in the game when he wanted to be. Now that I type this up I am wondering if Kearse and Fat Albert should be flip flopped.
Top 10 Busts:
#10 Shad Meier
#9 Tyrone Calico
#8 Ben Troupe
#7 Courtney Roby
#6 Paul Williams
#5 Kevin Dyson
#4 Chris Henry
#3 Andre Woolfolk
#2 Adam Jones
#1 Vince Young
Top 10 Successes:
#10 Marc Mariani
#9 Bo Scaife
#8 Jevon Kearse

I would switch Jevon and Albert
Both were great players for us for a couple years, but only Al actually gave us all that great press for stomping on a guys head, all his traffic problems, etc. While he was a great great player, I must say, after seeing how things have turned out in Washington, I’m glad we didn’t resign him.
I live in the OC.
The one in OH.
I think this is the right spot for him
we also got that 3rd round pick for him when he left for FA, and he was here for 7 years. even though he had injury issues/suspension, he still played in at least 10 games every year (but maybe played 30% of those snaps hahaha). I say without Albert Haynesworth the 07 and 08 Titans would have won 8-10 less games and never gotten a chance to waste the #1 AFC seed in a retarded loss to the Ravens.

While I think he should be on the list
I think he belongs under Mariani at #9. If Mariani made it on the list for only having one year of playing him and being dominate, so should Albert because combining all the plays he was actually contributing on the field probably ads up to playing a full season of football.
He might have been a dominate force, but I can’t stand him for taking plays off. As was said above, I am glad we didn’t resign him.
inaccurate in college = inaccurate 4life!!
VY had 2 very good years, Al had one awesome year
But VY is the #1 bust and Al is one of the best picks.
Nice.
most dominant season from a defensive lineman in a decade >>>>>> a couple of meh seasons.

Vunce < Fat Al
Fat Al was dominating offensive lines for the last time for us when we went 13-3 into the playoffs.
Vunce was sitting on the bench with suicidal thoughts. In fact, Vunce has never played a playoff game.
Vunce was a QB that never produced AMAZING stats. Fat Al produced very much at Dline.
Fat Al made everyone around him better. Vunce made CJ better, that’s about it.
It's all fun and games until someone gets a concussion from a stray flying footbal. *cough* Kerry *cough*

Vunce played a playoff game
Not very well, but he played it.

Can big Al fit in this??

yeah, i want some views...
tell me how it is!
I think it's about right.
Albert was a beast during stretches and made the whole defense better. Also the case for Kearse. My big issue with this is that since it only includes draftees sine the move to Tennessee, Steve McNair will have to be excluded. That is, unless you make an exception in his case. I can’t think of another player that meant so much to this franchise, with the possible exception of Earl Campbell.
Anyway looking forward to the next selection.

You're not being very consistent.
“Sure there were a lot of problems surrounding Albert while he was here, but he was the most dominant defensive player in the game when he wanted to be.”
So he had his moments but ended up being an immature headcase whom the Titans didn’t want on their roster anymore. Vince Young was dominant on the offensive side of the ball, enough to earn him OROY. He was also an immature headcase whom the front office deemed was not worth keeping around.
It makes no sense whatsoever to call one of them one of the the biggest busts in Titans’ history and the other one of the best picks in franchise history. If a first round pick is expected to be a long term anchor for the franchise, not just good for a few seasons, then Haynesworth belongs on the “bust” list.

Vince was never dominant.
He won OROY, but look at his stats. They are not that good. He certainly didn’t “dominate” that year.
"Do the Titans have a miracle left in them in what has been a magical season to this point? If they do, they need it now. Christie kicks it high and short. Gonna be fielded by Lorenzo Neal at the 25; he dishes it back to Wycheck; he throws it across the field to Dyson. 30, 40, 50, 40, 30, 20, 10, 5, endzone...touchdown, Titans! There are no flags on the field! It's a miracle! Tennessee has pulled a miracle! A miracle for the Titans!"

?
we wanted al back.. we just could not sign him to such a ridiculous contract like the one we got in WAS..if we didn’t want him back, why’d we try to trade for him back this year?
Patrick Peterson= Next Deion Sanders. Julio Jones sucks.
and why could we not afford such an enormous contract?
because he was RIDICULOUSLY dominant. Vince Young had some exciting wins..
Patrick Peterson= Next Deion Sanders. Julio Jones sucks.
If we REALLY wanted him back,
then he would have gotten paid by the Titans. The fact that another team signed him means the Titans were willing to let him walk.

Al only had 2 good years.
If he’s on this list, it shouldnt be above Kearse.
Before I do anything I ask myself "Would an idiot do that?" And if the answer is yes, I do not do that thing.
