Best Titans Draft Picks, No. 8: DE Jevon Kearse
Over the next few weeks heading up to the draft we will be highlighting the biggest busts and greatest picks in the history of the Titans. I have decided to only look at the picks the franchise has made since the move to Tennessee instead of trying to look back at the entire history of the franchise.
Now we will countdown the top 10 best picks in franchise history.
The Freak is the 8th best pick of the Titans era. Of course you expect a guy picked 16th overall to be a good player, but Jevon Kearse came in and dominated from day one. He set and NFL record for sacks by a rookie in 1999 with 14.5 and was named to pretty much every All-Pro team that year. He tallied 36 sacks in his first three seasons with the Titans.
Top 10 Busts:
#10 Shad Meier
#9 Tyrone Calico
#8 Ben Troupe
#7 Courtney Roby
#6 Paul Williams
#5 Kevin Dyson
#4 Chris Henry
#3 Andre Woolfolk
#2 Adam Jones
#1 Vince Young

Only number 8??
Wow we’ve had some good draft picks then…
inaccurate in college = inaccurate 4life!!
to elaborate with my thoughts...
i think this is a perfect spot for the Kearse pick. #16 should be an impact player… which he was… exceedingly so, but he still only played in/started 68 games with his first Titan tenure. when you compare that to other people that might show up on the list it makes more sense. to make a quick list of players that might show up on this list and have played in many more games than kearse or also have the possibility of doing so if they play out their current contract: Keith Bulluck, Cortland Finnegan, Eugene Amano, Michael Roos, David Stewart, Samari Rolle, Derrick Mason. Then you have players that match or are likely to match 68 games like Albert Haynesworth, Chris Johnson, Jason Jones, Alterraun Verner etc.
Vince Young meat tastes gud.
Draft Ryan Mallet!

he's a 6th round pick that has started and played in many many games
including the season where CJ ran for 2000 yards
Vince Young meat tastes gud.

But Eugene Amano???
over paid. under-sized. serviceable guard when playing next to an All-Time-Great center. should NOT be a starting center in the NFL. losing his job this year (hopefully). does not equal being on this list.
and i really hope
Jason Jones and ATV become players we can add to list in the future. JJ just needs to stay healthy..
If we draft a DT
Jason can slide or stunt outside as a DE in the new system and unleash absolute mayhem. Plus being at the end of the d-line would probably allow him to stay healthier for most of the season.
we need an edit button to take
Amano out of your list

No
according to that he might show up on the list. i never said should except here
#16 should be an impact player
Amano was #239. C’mon I’m not a fan of Amano I watched the same games you did. I just made a list to support the idea of Kearse being #8 on here. he was awesome and amazing but his effect on the Titans was relatively short term.

We did a list like this
at the end of the decade and Amano was on it. He played so poorly last year that he won’t be appearing on this list, and that probably isn’t right. It was just hard to look past it.
Titans Blogger at Music City Miracles even though gramsey hates it.
that's disappointing
You can’t hide the fact that Amano was a seventh round pick (pick 239) that became a starter and he was part of an offensive line that was considered one of the best in the nfl for a couple years. I’m disappointed that he’s not on this list just because he played one bad season.
Does this mean Finnegan would also be missing from the list? He played bad last season.

i guess
with all the positions in football it would be a bit lopsided to put 3 Olineman on the list. esp when one of them played so conspicuously bad last year. I’m not upset that he’s not going to be on the list but I don’t think it’s unusual at all for him to at least be considered for this. Off-years have come about for pretty much every good player in the NFL, and from what I know Amano was playing with a neck injury most of last year which could have affected his production.

Jacob Bell
Was a better player for the money and could just have easily been blocking for CJ during that 2k yard season.
Just take a look at the O-line from that season. Amano was easily the weak link. His play was covered up by playing between Mike Roos and Kevin Mawae. The other side of the line? Jake Scott and David Stewart. I’m convinced the Titans made the decision not to resign Mawae based on the stupid idea that Amano was good enough to let him go. Maybe that’s why talking about Eugene makes me so mad.
Guess what Erock
The guy who built the O-line and who you think misevaluated Eugene is now the Head Coach. He’s a hall of famer at the position by the way.

yeah Amano isn't awesome
but Jacob Bell didn’t block for CJ. all you people are freaking the hell out over me saying that Amano might have the possibility of making this list because he’s started and played in a lot of games. Eugene Amano isn’t a great player but he’s contributed to the franchise for a while after being drafted #239. he’s not going to be on this list…. don’t sweat it…. in fact forget you ever read it for fuck’s sake

but no
because Donnie Nickey has not accomplished something like blocking for a 2000 yard RB.

Kearse was awesome
In his first two or three years here he owned the NFL. It was quite a sight to watch him get all those sacks. He had over 30 in just his first two years. Great player for too short of a time.

i know right. ill frame the freak like i did mcnairs jersey... eventually
The only active titans player jersey I have is cj. We need to get some more players that are worth getting their jersey!

The freak!
His jersey was the first Titans jersey I ever owned. He was one of my favorite players.
"Do the Titans have a miracle left in them in what has been a magical season to this point? If they do, they need it now. Christie kicks it high and short. Gonna be fielded by Lorenzo Neal at the 25; he dishes it back to Wycheck; he throws it across the field to Dyson. 30, 40, 50, 40, 30, 20, 10, 5, endzone...touchdown, Titans! There are no flags on the field! It's a miracle! Tennessee has pulled a miracle! A miracle for the Titans!"
