Best Titans Draft Picks, No. 10: WR Marc Mariani
Over the next few weeks heading up to the draft we will be highlighting the biggest busts and greatest picks in the history of the Titans. I have decided to only look at the picks the franchise has made since the move to Tennessee instead of trying to look back at the entire history of the franchise.
Now we will count down the top 10 best picks in franchise history.
Marc Mariani comes in at #10. He was the 222nd player picked in the 2010 draft. There is a good chance that Mariani could be #1 if we did this exercise again in a couple of years, but he is 10th on this list because he has only played for one year.
Mariani came in and made the return game a strength of the team in 2010 after it had been a glaring weakness in 2009. He was 9th in the league in kickoff return average and 4th in punt return average. Hopefully he will get a chance at the receiver position more in 2011.
Top 10 Busts:
#10 Shad Meier
#9 Tyrone Calico
#8 Ben Troupe
#7 Courtney Roby
#6 Paul Williams
#5 Kevin Dyson
#4 Chris Henry
#3 Andre Woolfolk
#2 Adam Jones
#1 Vince Young

see Deshawn Jackson and Wes Welker as well
Both of those guys are people Marc should look to to see how it’s done.

I love this kid!
but labeling him as one of the best picks in franchise history is a little bit of a stretch after just 1 rookie season. I can name 10 guys off the top of my head more deserving because they played more tan 1 year:
KB
Roos
Stewart
Finny
Griff
CJ
Hall
Britt
Haynesworth
Jones
that’s 11…see what I did there? hehe

I disagree
I think with the combination of being a 7th round pick to turning around the black hole we were in for returns from the previous season he is a good slot for #10.
Also technically Hall is not a draft pick.
USC > UT (Both of them)
i thought we drafted him

After not being selected in the 2006 supplemental draft, the Angleton, Texas, native was signed by the Titans as a 26-year-old rookie free agent on July 13, 2006.

USC > UT (Both of them)
but
this is akin to calling Morgan bust because he didn;t play last year. 1 year, 1 year’s production. I mean if anything I bet Mariani will move up this list.

titans I believe.
If it was Oilers/Titans, we may only have CJ on the list.

Yeah bro
It was a huge weakness coming into the season. Washington, Dallas just off the top of my head, he had some huge plays. Factor in that he was just a rookie and will have pleanty if time to develop into a WR gets me all giddy haha
washington dallas
Denver.
minus the fumble that was caused by donnie nickey getting ran over attempting a block

Can't put into words how excited I was about this draft pick
I saw flashes of the ESPN Top 10 moment he had for Montana (diving catch, wide open down the middle of the field) dancing around my head when I heard the call.
I remember telling my friends about him and all of them saying, “Who?”
Then picking him up in my Fantasy Football League before the season started because we had points for returners.
Here’s to hoping we see Mariani in the slot a ton this year. I’m a huge fan of this kid. About as big as I was of Welker when he played for Miami. If he can hold onto the ball a little tighter, he should be making huge plays in the passing game.
Quick Question:
Do Mike Roos and David Stewart get their own posts or do they have to share, seeing as they were both picked in the same draft? (Rounds 2 and 4 respectively)
Im not sure i can get on board with Mariani at 10 already.
Great pick though

Ridiculously premature
Unless you’re choosing one guy a year over the past ten years and Mariani beats out Verner in what wasn’t a very impressive first season for the 2010 draftees.
