WR's...draft or sign?
We have all seen so many scenarios for the draft, and most of us feel strongly that our pick will be for the D. However, no one wants to reach for a player. That being said, every mock I have seen has at least 1 of the 2 top WR's still on the board when we pick, and there are quite a few of us that want that guy-Green or Jones. While I am no fan of drafting offense at all this draft (unless there is a QB we want at 39), any time you have the opportunity to strengthen a position, you take it. Now do I think Green or Jones is an upgrade? No, because they have proven nothing in the NFL. However, I offer up this question: Why draft a guy, Jones or Green, at 8 and pay the money that a #8 will get when we can potentially sign......Plaxico Burress? Burress will come cheap, real cheap, because of the perceived risk. In fact, we could probably get hm with a nice, fat, incentive laiden contract for 2 or 3 years with $2 or $3 million total guaranteed. I say 2 or 3 years because I doubt he will be receiving too many, if any, offers beyond a 1-year deal. So there you have it. A known quantity ON the field. If Vick's situation is any indication, Plax will work out just fine once he finds a home.

Except Vick got a year to sit on the bench and learn from a QB guru.
You’re assuming that because one guy got a chance and seized it for redemption, another will? Vick should be considered an anamoly, not the norm.

Bingo.
What has happened to Vick’s football career should not be considered what will happen in the future. Each circumstance is unique.
Personally, I’d rather not sign idiots like Burress.

I disagree.
I’m 33. WHen I was 20 I got into some major trouble for drugs while I was in college. I was convicted and went away for a bit. When it was over, I went back and finished my degree and have been an advocate of youth prevention groups here in upstate NY. I actually speak every 3rd Thursday of every month at the convicting judge’s youth prevention group. Heck we get along well and have lunch every week. Sitting there in a place where life stagnates really puts things into perspective. Some people realize that it is not for them, as they didn;t have to do what they did. Majority of convicts are there because they know nothing else, and have either been in and out of the system, or will be because they were either trying to feed themselves or their families. These guys (Plax and Vick) are probably all squared away with the nonsense.

I'm not going to argue your personal experiences or anything like that,
but I do think you need to realize that Plaxico Burress is not the average 20 year old kid who gets in trouble with the law. I don’t know what the odds are, but I’d wager there is a lot more athletes who never turn their life around after jail compared to the ones that do.

Sidney Rice
Plaxico Burress, Randy Moss, Chad Johnson, T.O. are all big name WR’s that have had good years at one point in time. Will they continue to be productive? None of it matters at the WR position until we get our QB situation solved…..
I think Sidney is a better option than any of the others because he is still in his prime imo, unlike the others.
I’d be very happy with getting Rice
Rice could work really well
He seems like a very fine player with no serious baggage unlike some other WRs we’ve come to know…

he's
going to want a LOT of money.

Bud would go for him
He knowns he doesn’t have a lot of time left and it’s been reported in the past that he could be willing to break bank for some top tier players.
I doubt we actually get Rice but it’s nice to dream…

We need another WR now.
Now that Britt is in trouble with johnny law we should draft Jones or Green. They wont be a reach at #8. Also I believe that this years draft they were going to rookie wage scales in place so that these top 10 picks are getting millions out the door with no work involved. Remember the old CBA just had the draft in place, it never said that they would be able to sign contracts, so they will have a team but no money.

Do you know how old Plaxico is?
he’s 33 years old. he’s going to be slow and washed up when he gets out of jail. signing him to be a #1 receiver would be a huge mistake…. like bigger than Randy Moss mistake.

The difference between positions
Quarterbacks & kickers can range from Sam Bradford/ Mark Sanchez age to Brett Favre/ Morten Anderson age. So One can not relate Vick to Plaxico. I would relate Plax to Tiki Barber or our very own 33 year old WR: Randy Moss. So why do we need another old WR when already have Mr. “Take Da Top Off Da Dfence”!
However, All the other positions that take Stamina, Endurance, Strength, Speed, etc. These players do not perform well when they get too old as they either don’t want to play tough anymore (albert) or they get injured more often (Kearse) than not. Most RBs get left in the dust by age 30. Unless your name is Johnson or Tomlinson. Most Lineman like Mawae don’t last past 35.

BUT
Plax has 2 years less wear and tear on the33 year old body. Also, WR’s that still produce at or over 30: Hines Ward, Steve Smith, Ochocinco, TO, Boldin, Mason, Moss (who was fine until he left NE), REGGIE WAYNE, to name a few.
Plax is 33 with the physical depreciation of a 30-31 year old. He has plenty in the tank and would be a great vet addition, especially with his size and hands. End zone threat. Also a guy who has been on the dark side and may be able to reach a young, impressionable Britt.

DEFENSE...DEFENSE
As Far as I’m aware we STILL have: Moss, Britt, Wash, Mariani, Hawk, Damian, & Others whom need no mention.
What Good would AJ or Julio help our offense when we still wouldn’t have anybody to throw to Green or Jones.
I will be shocked if MIN doesn’t re-Sign Rice. They still have time…so forget it.
I am happy with our WRs & our overall offense. The only positions we need on Offense: QB, G/C, & POWER RB (Goal line, 3rd & short).
The rest of the draft should all be spent on D-FENCE…
Moss is a FA and so is Rice.
Any player that wasn’t re-signed before the old CBA expired will be FA once the new CBA is in place. So Moss is no longer on the Titans, as is Jason Babin. Once the new CBA is in place they may give teams 3 days to do re-signing because of the draft and then there will only be a week of FA which will mean everyone will be going hard and fast to get that big name player.
