2011 NFL Mock Draft Titans Take Nick Fairley and Christian Ponder

RALEIGH NC - OCTOBER 28: Christian Ponder #7 of the Florida State Seminoles drops back to throw a pass against the North Carolina State Wolfpack during their game at Carter-Finley Stadium on October 28 2010 in Raleigh North Carolina. (Photo by Streeter Lecka/Getty Images)

Chad Reuter of CBS Sports and NFLDraftScout.com put out a two round mock of his own yesterday, and he, like everyone else in the free world, has the Titans taking Nick Fairley in the first round, but instead of Ryan Mallett in the second round he has the Titans taking Christian Ponder.  I must say that I like this a lot better.  The biggest question surrounding Ponder is his injury history, but you can believe that every NFL team will have all of those questions answered when the draft rolls around.

This is the first time in a while I have seen Ponder falling to 39.

Analysis from Reuter after the jump.

Star-divide

Nick Fairley, DT, Auburn: Fairley's pro day just accentuated his athleticism, and he gained back some of the weight he lost to run faster at the combine. His length and power perfectly fits the Titans' ideal for defensive tackles.
Christian Ponder, QB, Florida State : Finding a new starter is paramount for new coach Mike Munchak.

Ground breaking stuff on that second one there.

This is much better.

Amazing what changing one pick can do to my opinion of a mock draft.

agreed.

Before I do anything I ask myself "Would an idiot do that?" And if the answer is yes, I do not do that thing.

Reality is better than these fantasies.

This is a much better mock because Ponder has all the tools to be a starter.

Our line can keep him upright (and healthy), and he can flourish in this offense as early as this year.

The one thing on Fairley I can’t get over: He seems like such an anti-Reinfeldt pick. He seems to go after people with lots of college production and players who are smart, high character guys. Fairley has one year of production (admittedly a great year) but definitely does not seem like a high character guy. With our history of Pacman, Vince and Albert, you’d think we’d have learned by now that off field behaviour is crucial. All three had varying amounts of success here, but none will be Titans in 2011.

Im not sure about Fairley

He plays too high and doesnt have good technique, high bullrushing wont work in the nfl

His mental make up is my concern. Dirty players and a lot of money don’t mix.

Gotta say thumbs up

I would love this. Fairley would be an excellent piece, but getting Ponder in the second would be very nice. I don’t think much of Gabbert or Newton as one is a 1 year wonder and the other is a no year wonder. If I as ranking qbs, I’d have Ponder ranked 3rd. He has all the skills, good experience, and while he never set the world on fire at FSU he was a consistent starter who won games.

If the draft experts are right...

then Dalton will be there at no.39…..I would rather have him. Fairley….I’m down with. I would rather have Dareus….but hey, that’s like saying I’d rather have an Accura than an Infinity. Either way, you’re getting a pretty darn good car.

If you had to be perfect to do what we do, then nobody would be doing it. On the other hand, if everyone could do what we do.....then everyone would be doing it.

You mean Pickup Truck?

I don’t think you’d want your franchise DT being compared to an import luxury sedan… Just sayin.

Dreams do come true!

Although I once had a dream that VY and LenWhale were drafted by the Titans in the same draft and they lived on to be happily ever after. Maybe I should be careful what I wish for…
