So, looking at the quarterbacks in this years draft is something I'm sure most of us have been active in doing this offseason. Maybe these posts about who we should take are getting old, but I'm still enjoying them.
Looking at the position the Titans will be in this draft it seems more and more evident that they will select a defensive stud with the 8th overall pick. I believe both of the top two quarterbacks will be gone by the time the Titans are on the board (this is a very good thing) and there will still be two or three defensive studs left that can help our team for years to come and I am banking on the fact that we will take one of them.
Now the third quarterback to be taken could be on of a few that include Jake Locker, Ryan Mallet, Andy Dalton, and Christian Ponder. Where will these players all go? Will any of these quarterbacks be first rounders? To put it simply, yes, I believe there will be at least one more QB taken in the first round. The Vikings, Jaguars, and Seahawks all need quarterbacks among other positions to fill in this draft. Do any of these teams think their guy will still be there in the 2nd round?
I think one of these three clubs will pull the trigger on either Locker or Mallet leaving the other three QB's listed to last until the second round. In my opinion, if the Titans want to grab a QB before they are all gone they will need to trade up either earlier into the second round or into the late first round. Usually, I would be completely apposed to trading back into the first round, but this year I think it makes sense. If the Titans wait until their second round pick, I don't think they will be getting a QB with said pick.
Assuming Ponder and Dalton are the two QB's still left once we roll around to about pick 28 or so, the Titan's should start talking to other teams about trading up. If we could move up into the late first round and pick either of these two I would be very pleased. I like both Ponder and Dalton and I think they both have potential to be very solid QB's. At first I was on the Dalton wagon hardcore, but I have recently fallen in love with Ponder. I think his style would mold very well with our offense. We have weapons all around him and in college he has pretty much always looked like a quarterback ready for the pros.
So what do you think? Would it be a good idea to jump back into the first round to get either of these two assuming the others are gone and considering the teams that have picks before us in the second round that didn't get a QB in the first? Or do we push our luck and hope one of them falls to us in the second? If we wait and all the QB's are gone do we take a chance on a project like Kapernick in the third? Do we draft another solid defender? Leave your thoughts in the comments.
