Todd McShay Gives the Titans Nick Fairley on SportsCenter
Todd McShay was on SportsCenter this morning and had the Titans taking Auburn defensive tackle Nick Fairley with the 8th overall pick. Here is what he had to say about the pick:
Defensive tackle is a major need for them. If they cant get their quarterback- Nick Fairley is an option- has some character risk, some work ethic issues but he is a phenomenal talent.
It is funny how a guy goes from being the almost consensus first overall pick in February to possibly the 8th pick in March.
Here was the top 10.
1. Carolina- Marcell Dareus, DT, Alabama
2. Denver- Von Miller, OLB, Texas A&M
3. Buffalo- Blaine Gabbert, QB Missouri
4. Cincinnati- A.J. Green, WR, Georgia
5. Arizona- Cam Newton, QB, Auburn
6. Cleveland- Da'Quan Bowers, DE, Clemson
7. San Francisco- Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU
8. Tennessee- Nick Fairley, DT, Auburn
9. Dallas- Tyron Smith, OT, USC
10. Washington- Julio Jones, WR, Alabama

Seems like..
we get him in every mock draft lately. Almost guarantees we end up with someone else on draft day. Too bad, he was a beast last year.
What happened?
How did Fairley go from an almost consensus #1 to just a top 10? It’s not that big of a drop, but still…
I live in the OC.
The one in OH.
Think of it this way
He went from the first defensive lineman taken to the second taken. Not exactly spiraling down the draft board.
true
I’m just curious if it was something Nick did or just perception of “experts”/Carolina’s preferences/other guys having a better offseason.

I'm biased (Auburn fan)
But I think he dropped because he came to the combine smaller than advertised and Dareus is simply a beast. Also, Nick Saban has credibility with his defenses that Auburn lacks (but will hopefully get back).
Also
they’ve been saying he doesn’t use his hands right. He stands too high. There might be a learning curve with him. On the Titans website there’s a good video explaining why.
Cam Newton for Pres.
Cecil Newton for VP
Hands, lack of physical body definition (yes I'm aware of how utterly stupid this sounds), only one good year of tape, history of being a dirty player
Some combination of the above is hurting his chances.

This actually makes me a tad nervous.
I would love the pick for the most part.
But even the biggest and strongest players that play too high and don’t have good hands are not going to make it against NFL guards and centers. And of course, you could argue those things are coachable, but he’d have his same D-line coach from Auburn…
"Do the Titans have a miracle left in them in what has been a magical season to this point? If they do, they need it now. Christie kicks it high and short. Gonna be fielded by Lorenzo Neal at the 25; he dishes it back to Wycheck; he throws it across the field to Dyson. 30, 40, 50, 40, 30, 20, 10, 5, endzone...touchdown, Titans! There are no flags on the field! It's a miracle! Tennessee has pulled a miracle! A miracle for the Titans!"

when you reevaluate Draft needs
as well as al the posibilities.
if you have the #1 pick and you need a OT then thats what you need, even if the BPITD (Best player in the draft) are all available to you, if you have a solid Young D-Line you dont need fairley, just as an example

I guess everyone sees the next Haynesworth and its too easy to just give him to us.
Never mind that we jettisoned Haynesworth for a reason.

Am I the only one who wants Amukamura for the first round?
My reasoning is: you just don’t find many shutdown corners with his potential in college any more
Fan of: New Jersey Devils, Tennessee Titans, New Jersey Nets, New York Mets, and the U
He's a good choice
But we have three better than solid corners already. We lack a linebacker or two, and we may need a defensive end. A defensive tackle would help a lot too. He’s not too important to us.

We're pretty set at CB, I'd rather trade down if it comes down to him.

Your not alone

i really dont think dt is one of our biggest problems
Tony brown, senderrick marks, Jason Jones. When they get injured like last year it hurts, but we need help in other positions regardless of health.

unfortunately Tony Brown is ALWAYS injured!
and marks is still not solid. we need more playmakers there.
you can never have too many DL....
but he’s starting to make me worried. i was incredibly impressed watching him in the championship game. and even thought “man, the Titans could draft him…”. however, i also realized i’d never heard of him before this year. and while some of his hits were not “dirty” in college, he’d have been flagged all over the place in the NFL. perhaps he can turn that off, but it may take a while.
add to all that the talk about his hands/posture, and the fact that his competition will be much fiercer, it may not be a great pick. but then, i’ve been wrong before. :D
TN Sports fan in Hoosier Country....
our biggest needs are QB and LB
but at LB, it seems there´s no one worth taking that high (Von Miller will not last that long).
And picking in our position, it´s ok to draft for best available prospect, even if it doesn´t fit our biggest needs.
QB não seria necessidade se...
Os caras deixassem de ser otários e mantivessem o VY. Nenhum QB vai chegar e fazer melhor do q ele, e ainda mais agora q nao tem mais o fisher pra atrapalhar.

Patrick Peterson...
I don’t think he’ll fall that far….If he does, I think someone might even try and trade up to get him.
