Ryan Mallett in the Mix For #1 Overall?
It has often been said that you shouldn't believe anything you hear from NFL coaches, GMs and scouts in the six weeks leading up to the draft. With that in mind, Ron Rivera said over the weekend that Ryan Mallett is still in the mix for the Carolina Panthers with the first overall pick according to The Charlotte Observer:
Echoing what he said at the NFL combine last month, Rivera mentioned the Panthers have zeroed in on about eight prospects. He said three of those targets are quarterbacks - Cam Newton, Blaine Gabbert and Ryan Mallett - but not all.
I think I speak for the fans of the other 31 teams in the NFL when I say, Ron, please, please, please take Mallett with the #1 overall pick. That means that our team can't pick him, because he is going to be a bust, and that leaves an elite player on the board a little bit longer.
You can expect a lot of this nonsense between now and the draft.

So would I
Ryan Mallett should send Ron Rivera a check for keeping his name in 1st rd. QB discussion. This is laughable.
I can see it now
per game average: 29/35 for 250, 1 TD/3 INT, 2 fumbles lost, 5 sacks
Mr. Mallet, please sit down and watch KC.

don't forget
the postgame rant about how he’s busting his butt out there and his teammates do nothing.
I live in the OC.
The one in OH.
I think Mallett should be rated higher than Gabbert/Newton
But I don’t think he’s “worth” the #1 pick. But, teams have reached for a QB with that #1 pick before, so crazier things have happened.

In Mallett's defense
He’s the only top QB prospect in this draft who would be drafted based on actual consistent production, not just potential. Doesn’t that make the other QBs just about equally as likely to not pan out?
Not saying I want him though. Really I don’t like any of these QBs as viable NFL starters. But I suppose Dalton or Ponder would be the best of a bad situation considering they could be taken later while using the first one or two picks on true impact players.
Go Titans! Go Magic!

Ryan Mallet at #1 overall? That's an Oakland Raiders move.
See the 2007 NFL draft.
"Do the Titans have a miracle left in them in what has been a magical season to this point? If they do, they need it now. Christie kicks it high and short. Gonna be fielded by Lorenzo Neal at the 25; he dishes it back to Wycheck; he throws it across the field to Dyson. 30, 40, 50, 40, 30, 20, 10, 5, endzone...touchdown, Titans! There are no flags on the field! It's a miracle! Tennessee has pulled a miracle! A miracle for the Titans!"
