2011 NFL Combine: Julio Jones Did That With A Broken Foot
NFL Network's Charley Casserly reports that Julio Jones needs surgery after performing at Combine with foot fracture.
Make sure you read that correctly. Julio Jones put up those eye popping numbers with a broken foot. Again, he didn't break his foot at the combine. His foot was already broken. He will now have surgery to have a screw inserted in his foot. It is apparently the same procedure Michael Crabtree had done before the 2009 draft.
You may have already guessed it, but I am completely on board with Hal's plan to draft Julio at #8 to load up the offense. Can you imagine the firepower the Titans would have with Kenny Britt on one side and Julio on the other? That would also give them two excellent down field blockers for Chris Johnson. Draft Andy Dalton in the second and sign spend the next 5 rounds on defense. 2011 might be rough, but you would have a young nucleus of studs on offense and could build the defense in the 2012 draft.

I would take AJ in a heart beat
I wouldnt take Jones at #8. AJ has Calvin Johnson potential. Julio doesnt I dont think, and he’s always hurt
And if Dalton isn't there in the 2nd round?

I just say dont even wast a 2nd round pick
on a QB this year. Landry Jones, Andrew Luck, and Matt Barkley will be available next year. I say dont waste a pick on someone if you dont truly believe they can impact your team
Wow.
Big numbers for a guy with a broken foot. Props to Julio. And this is coming from a Tennessee fan.
…that was hard.
"Do the Titans have a miracle left in them in what has been a magical season to this point? If they do, they need it now. Christie kicks it high and short. Gonna be fielded by Lorenzo Neal at the 25; he dishes it back to Wycheck; he throws it across the field to Dyson. 30, 40, 50, 40, 30, 20, 10, 5, endzone...touchdown, Titans! There are no flags on the field! It's a miracle! Tennessee has pulled a miracle! A miracle for the Titans!"

I have major issues
with you pulling that out just now… That’s what she said… lol But in all seriousness I was hittin dudes over the head with twss through text for some time and getting question marks everywhere. I would explain it and they would tell me it doesn’t work, that you actually have to spell it all out or its not the same. So I stopped… I’m taken back a bit here now. Is this commonplace now? This may seem like the most ridiculous comment/ waste of text in history, but this is way more major for me as my friends pretty much made me stop… I was doing it around the time the office came out, and hadn’t seen anyone ever do it but me till just now. I’m shocked and about to text at least 25 people telling them what I just saw.

Well Jones continues to help his stock. Even more impressive combine outing now.
I wonder how long the rehab will be. Will he be able to go at his Pro Day? There were reports that some teams might be a little worried about taking Fairley because they won’t be able to oversee his rehab due to the lockout. Wonder if the same will be said about Jones.

I mean it's tempting as all get out...
He’s a physical freak….and putting up those numbers with a broken foot is just nasty; but let’s not forget: 1) He has inconsistent hands and 2) we have to sit down and think…what are our needs.
To me we need to get a difference-maker on defense. I wouldn’t argue a bit if we did get Julio, because a guy like that is going to be special, I just don’t think it makes complete sense for us.
Britt had inconsistent hands too
But by the Almight hands of Fred Mother frickin Graves he was cured, mostly

sorry
Stanzi is a better QB than ponder or dalton,im a homer but trust me,dalton 1year wonder?and gabbert mizzou?lets look at winning, gabbert has won nothin, dalton won against a dumb coach,Stanzi is a winner, its documented,a lil brady like,he wants and is willing to learn.
Your comment lacks evidence
Dalton ‘one year wonder’? The guy has started FIFTY games. I repeat, he has started FIFTY games.
Gabbert won his bowl game this year, one in which he put up over 400 yards.
At least you’re a self-admitted homer because that’s about all that’s correct in your comment.

woah, them be fightin words.
we destroyed #6 Michigan State here in Iowa City this year.
Stanzi threw for over 3000 yards this year, while only throwing 6 picks compared to 25 TD’s.
His 3rd down stats this year were impressive too. 9 TD’s 0 INT’s.

TN Sports fan in Hoosier Country....
Really?
I understand the loyalty to Alabama players, but drafting Julio at #8 is kind of a bad idea. He’s injury-prone and the Titans have much bigger needs. He has talent, no doubt, but this doesn’t address any of the Titans’ top three needs: LB, DT, & QB.
You say he's injury prone yet
he played in every game this year and part of the season with a broken hand. He may have had a few injuries during his career at Bama but he always showed toughness and played through them.

but I’d rather see Dareus in a Titans’ jersey.

who cares if he’s hurt? that’s a brash statement, but it looks like he’s plenty tough enough to perform through some serious pain.

julio is dirty, but if the titans were to draft a wide receiver I would prefer AJ Green. Based on NFLs hyping of Dareus if a 2 teams are looking for DT before 8th pick he’ll be gone. It would be tight to have Dareus and Marvin Austin in the first two rounds. Or one of the LB’s and move up for austin in the second round, perhaps someone will switch their 2nd round pick for VY, supposed interest for him by a few teams.
No
Too many holes at OL, DL, S, LB and QB. Britt, Dwill and Wash are good enough for me. Only way we take Julio is if Gabbert, Dareus, Pea, Fairleigh, Bowers are taken in picks 1-7 and theres no one the Titans feel fine with taking at 8 for our holes being reaches and we cant trade down. Then its BPA and Julio has a slim chance
Oh hai MCM

Get tommie harris
Take julio at #8 and dalton/ponder at #39. I personally like ponder better. He played more pro style at fsu so the 5 and 7 step drops are nothing new. Then when rd 3 comes around we gotta bring another matthews to the promised land. Hope that shoulder is ok.

I can't honestly see why everyone is just willing to say forget the defense.
We already had a 2000 yard rushing season rendered worthless by bad defense. So now we will follow the texans model of all offense? That has really worked out well for them. I do not want to see yet another season ruined by terrible defense just because everyone has a crush on a WR.

So we should give up entirely?
I get that people want to move away from the Fisher era, but completely disregarding needing defensive talent is not the way to do it.

I'm really hoping for Palmer
if not him then McNabb… It would open so many other options for our draft picks.
Palmer needs 1 thing right now to be successful again, a change of scenery
by Big Bad Bulluck on Feb 28, 2011 9:17 PM CST up reply actions
I'm alright with not bringing in a veteran, but its probably better to bring one in.
I’d trade VY for a new bag of footballs at this point, so if we get Palmer in return, I’d be pretty happy.
Not sure what I think of McNabb still. MCM has talked about him a lot. I love his professionalism and that he would bring some respectability to the QB position. But Andy Reid and Mike Shanahan have give up on him in two years. Granted Shany didn’t handle it well, but Reid and Shanahan are offensive guys and for them to have decided that they can’t win games with him anymore, that’s a big question mark.

I just still dont understand why any team would put thselves on the hook financially at that price when everyone knows he is gonna be released and can probably be had a lot cheaper later. Unless someone really wants him that bad and feels he is a hot enough comodity that there will be a lot of competition. That just seems obsurd though.

You have to be kidding
I have been rather clear that I’ve been a huge Dareus fan for the entirety of this draft process. With that said, I’d be all for drafting Julio Jones. What a freak of nature.
It’s funny how this whole draft process works out. So many different scenarios could play out. We could go Dareus then Ponder/Dalton/(enter qb name here), we could go Gabbert then Marvin Austin/other DL, we could go Julio Jones then god knows what, or none of this could happen. It’s really crazy
Off topic: The Jets are considering releasing Vernon Gholston.
Make no mistake, this guy is one of the biggest busts in recent draft history, but….considering our LB corps, (which is to say, nonexistent), I wonder if we should bring him in for a look. He can play DE or LB and Gray did speak of versatility in his defenses.

Great Idea To Get Jones, BUT...
…we got the wrong offensive coordinator to exploit his talents. Instead of putzing around with Fisher, Cecil, and Dinger, we should have made a move for Al Saunders before the Raiders got him. THEN, we go get Julio Jones and a QB. Sure Palmer wants to run the ball, but his offensive numbers are suspect. Saunders has proven to use explosive offensive talent to the fullest. He did it in STL and KC AND he could have easily done it here if the front office wasn’t busy singing kum-ba-yah with Fisher on his inevitable way out.
Gholston is just a 3-4 Tweener/Rush guy, right??
I dont see how he would fit our personnel unless we already had a 3-4 installed.

Palmer stated
that he wanted a ~ 35-30 split, rushing/passing, what we need is a good, durable, blocking TE, with good route skills, such as Luke Stocker (reminds me of Austin Collie). Of course this would definitely help out CJ.
That is of course
if the FO thinks that offense is a better deal @ 8th than 39th, but Stocker won’t be there then.
