McCormick: Titans Talking to Jeremy Shockey
Source:Titans speaking with Drew Rosenhaus about Jeremy Shockey http://t.co/NOVKbjh via @247sportsdotcom
Terry McCormick is reporting that the Titans have talked to agent Drew Rosenhaus about Jeremy Shockey. I will go on record right now as saying that I will be shocked if the Titans were to sign Shockey, but as McCormick's article mentions, Titans offensive coordinator Chris Palmer has familiarity with Shockey from 2007 when they were both with the Super Bowl Champion New York Giants. You will remember that Shockey was injured late in that season and did not play in the Super Bowl.
Shockey had some really good seasons early in his career with the Giants, but he hasn't had more than 50 catches in a season since 2007. He has battled numerous injury issues the last few years.
McCormick mentions that the Titans have a need at tight end with the imminent departure of Bo Scaife. I am not so sure that is true considering you have Jared Cook on the roster who has a ton of upside and Craig Stevens who is a good blocker. They probably would want to carry three tight ends, but I don't want Shockey here taking playing time from Cook who has a lot more upside at this point.
[UPDATE]- McCormick is now backing off this report saying that the interest is more on Shockey's end.

Cook is too talented to waste on the bench. Plus, from a personal standpoint, I’ve always hated Shockey.

I say Yes..
Only if he plays Second to Cook! COOK for starting TE!
Palmer explicitly acknowledged Cook as a special talent
What else do you want? We def need 3 TEs. Wonder if Shockey has locker room leadership skills. Is he injured currently?
Yes
Although, Bo knows the system, I say offer them both a low contract and see who bites 1st. KNOWING that they would be 2nd string.
Bo doesnt know the system.
We have a New OC which means its a new system. Everyone has to learn it. Also if work is stopped OC and DC and all the other coaches can have no contact with the players. They cant even hand them playbooks. Shockey is an upgrade from Bo, Cook is a smaller TE like the Bears Olsen where he can play in the slot. Shockey is a true on-the-line TE, which if we got him then we could have bother Shockey and Cook on the field at the same time. 2 TE sets are more common, also like I said Cook doesnt have to be on the line, put Cook in the slot.

Actually
I think I read that Palmer is going to keep a lot of the playbook because of the lack of time to install an entirely new system.
But that I want Bo to stick around…

Gonna be fielded by Lorenzo Neal at the 25; he dishes it back to Wycheck; he throws it across the field to Dyson. 30, 40, 50, 40, 30, 20, 10, 5, endzone...touchdown, Titans! There are no flags on the field! It's a miracle! Tennessee has pulled a miracle! A miracle for the Titans!"

Not* that I want Bo to stick around.
He has to go.

Don't really see Shockey as competition to Cook
If he was healthy I think he could be a great addition. What’s better, Shockey + Cook, or Stevens + Cook? Besides that, I bet you could come up with some nice plays w/all 3.

Gah!
Focus on signing a veteran QB! Why are we even worrying about the TE position…?
By the Hammer of Thor (Munchak)!!!!
there's no QB out there to sign right now and you can't trade
what do you want them to do at QB? These are totally separate.
I don’t like it because Munch is trying to change the culture, and bringing in a prick like Shockey is moving in the opposite direction.

Yeah...not too excited about this one.
If he comes cheap and doesn’t take a lot of playing time away from the other two, he could be a decent veteran addition. But aren’t there attitude problems surrounding him?
Ribs. I had ribs for lunch. That's why I'm doing this.

Just saw a tweet...
Munchak said no plans to talk to agent about Shckey
NO to SHOCKEY!!!
WHY?! He can be a pain in the ass in the locker room. Other than being injured often. He got pissed at New York and didn’t go see the President with the team after the Super Bowl win. They traded him to New Orleans where he did keep his mouth shut but he was still injured often. He does have two Super Bowl rings. The Titans would be his third team. If he can stay healthy and keep his mouth shut, he might be worth giving a roster spot too.
Fuck no!!!!!!!!!
Not only is he not that good, he’s injury prone which means waste of money… He seems like a constant headache on top of that.

but I’d rather see TN draft Stocker than sign Stockey

@ 6'-5 258lbs
Yeah, lets get Luke Stocker.
“Stocker is a blue collar-type player that will likely be selected in the middle rounds.”
To be honest thats about
Cook’s Size.
If you think of him now.
Cook is 6’5 and maybe 255 after Workouts for 2 years

YES!!!!
Shockey has FIRE! He plays mad. He is better at blocking and has better hands than any TE on our roster. Shockey + Cookie with Stevens rotating. I like that!!!! The best part? Scaife goes! That autoimatically boosts any QB’s rating we put back there, and betters out turnover ratio!

This just in : Munchak: Nothing brewing on Shockey
INDIANAPOLIS Titans Coach Mike Munchak said the team has had no talks with the agent for former Saints tight end Jeremy Shockey and said there are currently no plans to do so.
"Obviously he’s had a great career,’’ Munchak said of Shockey. "I don’t think you ever say "No, we’re not interested in something" but right now we have done nothing.’’
Munchak also said he knew of no plans to talk to the tight end, who was injured last season.
Shockey is represented by agent Drew Rosenhaus, who is also here at the Combine. Agent and team officials regularly cross paths during the week, but Munchak said any interest the team could have in the veteran tight end would be "news to me."

Thank baby God.
By the Hammer of Thor (Munchak)!!!!
reading between the lines:
I guess they talked to Rosenhaus and didn’t like what they heard, so no need to actually talk to Shockey.

Scaife is going regardless
and Shockey doesn’t have better hands than Cook. Donnie Nickey plays made as well, that’s the guy on our roster I would be able to closely compare him 2 as far as personalities go. We need discipline and start this ship off headed in the right direction. Shockey is undisciplined in every sense of the word. Stevens is a better blocker in addition to that.

that shoulda been a reply to Saratoga

rec'd your reply
I disagree though. Cookie has dropped some easy ones, and Shockey was a blocking machine. At least he was for the Giants. As long as Scaife goes, it’s an upgrade, even if my sister lined up at TE, all 90 lbs of her. The knock on SHockey, and rightly so, is his inability to stay healthy.
by MarkusInSaratoga on Feb 24, 2011 2:03 PM CST up reply actions
Cook has become
more reliable, and anytime he’s on the field he’s more of a threat after the catch. He can go up and make more plays on badly thrown balls as well.
by Big Bad Bulluck on Feb 24, 2011 3:10 PM CST up reply actions
I'll say that cook hadnt dropped easy ones
He just dropped some of the ones that Justin Gage Caught (Some hard ones) But he catches what Justin Gage Drops (The easy ones)

Would rather have Miller
According to ESPN, the Raiders didn’t tag Zach Miller if we were gonna get anyone. That being said, I’m still in favor of Cook

Yeah
we have way bigger needs than TE at this point. If we are gonna spend money or make moves right now it needs to be QB, Guard, D-line and maybe LB or SS

Thank goodness this thing looks squashed already.
He’s injury prone and a waste of money. Its been so long since he was actually considered a good TE that you have to wonder if he will ever go near that level again.

I know this isn't the best comparison due to our pesonal biases but..
when you compare Shockey’s stats to Scaife’s over the past three years… Shockey wins.
Scaife G GS Re Yds YPC TDs
2010 Tennessee Titans 14 13 36 318 8.8 4
2009 Tennessee Titans 14 10 45 440 9.8 1
2008 Tennessee Titans 16 7 58 561 9.7 2
Shockey
2010 New Orleans Saints 13 11 41 408 10.0 3
2009 New Orleans Saints 13 12 48 569 11.9 3
2008 New Orleans Saints 12 11 50 483 9.7 0

Does that really say anything though?
I don’t think saying Shockey is better than Scaife proves anything. Its like saying I am the fastest 21 year old when racing 10 year olds.

which is why I prefaced that info with " I know this isn't the best comparison...."
it’s just interesting info. we were complaining about how shockey has lost it but he’s still putting up better stats that our “franchise TE”

We were so dumb
for making that guy our franchise TE. I still can’t believe they did it. Even everyone on this site questioned that move and knew it wasn’t a good idea. Tells you were this franchise was headed when the fans know better than the front office.

If you were given a choice between 32 teams. But he won't.
Even if I had the choice and the Titans were one of the options I still wouldn’t consider myself “crazy” for wanting to go to the Titans. They would be in the middle of my list. I would consider somebody “crazy” for wanting to go to Oakland.

here's my thought....
sign him, immediately IR him (why postpone the inevitable), and pray he’s a good luck charm and brins us a ring like he did in NO and NYG

Let some one else have him
We have a better, younger receiving TE in Cook and a better, younger blocker in Craig Stevens for different TE looks.
uhhhh ok, why the hell not?
not like we’ll get much FA interest from anyone else
Get 'em.

No
After having to watch him on sundays throughout his career in New Jersey he is the biggest crybaby since…well a baby. He feels like he’s entitled to be great and does little to work towards it. This goes back to when he was playing at Miami too. The only reason why he isn’t out of the league it’s because Fossil featured him as the main target in their 3 and out offense. The only reason he has a ring is Garret Hartley and Drew Brees.

If being in a press box watching Kevin Boss take your job contributes to getting a ring then yea
Anyway I do not feel like we need Shockey that badly and if we were to get a TE I would prefer we pick up Stocker, Kendricks, or Rudolph in the draft.
(Not trying to be a dick or anything but I have a strong hate towards Jeremy Shockey or anyone who feels they are entitled to be a HoFer and don’t put in any attempt to get to that level)
