Only ones who would excite me
are Thigpen and Gradkowski. They arent 40, and have played well recently.
In Duslin we trust
What's McCown like?
16 dvided by 2 equals 8. 8 divided by 2 is 4. At this rate, we will have the first pick in the 2014 draft!

If your going to pick up a FA QB.......
you want someone with “starting experience”. An interesting name brought up recently was Marc Bulger. He basiclly had a year off in Baltimore, he’s at a age where we can get at least 2 years out of him, and he would probably be cheap. I think this would be an upgrade over Collins if we do not bring him back. I think Pennington would be a perfect fit, but he always seems to stay hurt. Then you have Drew Stanton and Tyler Thigpen. Stanton was never the man in Detroit but he put up some decent numbers when he had to play. Our reciever corps is better then Detroit and again, he would be an upgrade. Thigpen is interesting………not the best QB, but he has never had an chance to show his stuff. I think he would be an excellent backup after a rookie took over in his first or second year.

Not much out there
Shows why Grossman can still find work
I could really get behind Smith
he got hosed out of the job in Bmore with that tonsil infection that cost him like 30 lbs right before the preseason. all indications were that he was to start at least the first 10 games and then if the Ravens were in the playoff hunt they’d keep him and if not they’d start Flacco but well, you know, it didn’t happen like that.
Get 'em.

Thigpen
Surprisingly little pub about him in the Titans talk. He’s done much with very little over his career.
There are NO FLAGS ON THE FIELD!
ib bo particular order,
I like gradkowski, Kerry Colllins, drew stanton, senneca wallace, tavaris jackson, troy smith. I think the pickings are definately slim, but this is what happens when our top pick, and franchise QB doesn’t work out.

Pennington looks to be the best one outta this bunch…
… of course if McNabb were to be released by the ‘Skins, then he’s the one. Pennington gets hurt too much.
Unless Tennessee makes a trade for Kolb or Flynn, they will need to draft a young QB…
I had to stop arguing with drunks, Steeler fans, and all other fools.
It was making my brick wall jealous...
As a MU alumni...
having attended the last two years Moss and Pennington played there together. This would make me wet in a good way. And I am a straight guy. I don’t think either has what they used to, and Pennington could no longer throw the deep ball that made them an epic duo in college, but it is just the thought of them playing together again. of course whats the odds we keep Moss and sign Pennington lol.
Not much to get hopeful about on this list.
Gradkowski’s played well on occasion at Tampa and Oakland; Troy Smith showed a little this year. Pennington has been very good, but is so damn brittle. It would be good to find someone who had the potential to be a permanent qb solution, or at least could give us a couple of years to find/develop one. Especially because this years’s draft pickings are so slim. I’d go with Gradkowski or Smith, but I think that if we could get Flynn for a fourth or a third, that would be a better option.
My choice
would be Hasselbeck. He got the Hawks to the playoffs (even advancing by beating Drew Brees & the Saints in the process)…something that none of us expected him to do. Sort of reminds me of what Kitna did with the Cowboys in the last half of the season.

Success is not given to those who know what to do......unless they do it.
I'm going with a guy...
who could take the snap for atleast a year and mentor a rookie QB. Hasselbeck, Bulger and Pennington in that order.

Yeah, these are really slim pickins
Ideally this would be a list of backups to choose from… I guess I’d say Thigpen or Jackson might be okay…

QB for Titans
Why lose a good thing? Keep Vince Young, if not, then I say Pennington or Bulger
pennington?
thin glass Pennington?
1 ply toilet paper Pennington?
wet napkin pennington??

Perhaps get two FA.
An old guy and a young guy. (Collins/Hasselbeck) and (one of the Smiths or T Jackson). Perhaps we can send Rusty back to the practice squad. I doubt if anybody will pick him up off waivers after the Houston debacle.
This is not nostalgic, but
Billy Volek, passer rating ~85, if he would consider it after the way this franchise treated him in 2006; Seneca Wallace, if he can pass the physical;
or as has already mentioned, an existing backup QB with some playing time such as Caleb Hanie, Matt Flynn, Jordan Palmer, which could compete with Rusty asssuming, of course, that Chris Simms and Kerry Collins are released or picked up elsewhere, but this would be more $$$$.
Against my better judgement, I believe that Kerry will be back considering the “slim pickens in both the FA arena and secondary QB’s” and the result of the ongoing CBA, and that is why I chose Billy as #1 FA selection. Besides, I’d bet he can beat Kerry out the job → it would be personal.
Volek skipped OTAs to go fishing and lied about it
And then demanded that he get paid like a starter and bitched to the press when it was obvious that he wasn’t gonna get what he wanted.
I liked Volek a lot, but he handled himself all wrong. All his demands and shenanigans tied the FOs hands.
Okay, I see your point
but, I would have asked for the same thing if I was him given that he backed-up McNair all those years and after McNair was hurt/released, he took over and was a pretty good leader on the field. Besides, he is older and smarter now with no problems since that incident. If this was a personal flaw, it would have shown up again.
You have to also consider that Fisher was the one who chose to bring in Collins.
1 of 4,657 reasons I am glad Fisher is gone!
And I would love to have Volek back. I wonder if he could still be as effective as he was his first stint here.
Troy Smith and Seneca Wallace.
I would absolutely love to see Smith in here while we develop another QB.

I would have to say that LEINART would be a good fit. All he needs is a fresh start and he has some zip in his arm and my favorite would be BILLY VOLEK also someone that was not given a fair chance uner the FISHER regime and he knows the system very well. I still love KERRY COLLINS to come back one more yr as a backup. He played well even with his injury on his finger.I still say they should trade for kEVIN KOLB and use our 8th pick on a DE.

Sorgi
seriously, the guy spent years learning from PM. hell, he almost beat the Titans a couple of times in meaningless Cults games. give the guy a chance. besides, seems like we enjoy collecting former Cults…
TN Sports fan in Hoosier Country....
Thigpen destroyed us didnt he?
Lets get him and…….VOLEK! HIS TIME HAS COME
In all honesty, none of these guys are starting QBs in this league
Oh hai MCM
This list makes me sick
I’d go with stick to the qb with a contract on the roster or go with Troy smith
This team needs a little bit of Luck, heres to 2012

Seneca Wallace. Maybe Bulger.
Wallace is a perfect fit for us to win now. Think 2008 Kerry Collins.
We’re not going to do much better than a game manager unless we get someone via trade. Seneca Wallace’s INT% ranks top ten in NFL history.
Minimize turnovers. Revamp the defense. Hope that we win enough to sneak in the playoffs.
As awful as it sounds, the best thing for this team long term would be to have a terrible season and win the Andrew Luck sweepstakes. As a fan, though, I can’t root for that. So, for now, the franchise needs to realize that they aren’t going to find a free agent quarterback that’s going to win games on his own. They just need to make sure they don’t pick up one who’s going to be responsible for losing games on his own (insert Rothbard team play objection here).
BIIIIIILLLLLY!
Bring him back!
"Do the Titans have a miracle left in them in what has been a magical season to this point? If they do, they need it now. Christie kicks it high and short. Gonna be fielded by Lorenzo Neal at the 25; he dishes it back to Wycheck; he throws it across the field to Dyson. 30, 40, 50, 40, 30, 20, 10, 5, endzone...touchdown, Titans! There are no flags on the field! It's a miracle! Tennessee has pulled a miracle! A miracle for the Titans!"

I like Matt Hasselbeck, lose a Super Bowl to the Stealers. Be Tyler Thigpen flashed franchise that year with the Chiefs
But Tyler Thigpen flashed franchise QB that year with the Chiefs. Even Bill Parcells trade for him. Volek would but cool too. @ Gramsey
Kenny Britt > Drew Bennett
How about a Ryan Mallet/Tavaris Jackson
combo? Make it tough for defenses to prepare. Honestly, I have no clue, all these quarterbacks are huge ? so lets pick one and go with em.
If you're looking for more than a 1 year stopgap...
Alex Smith and Matt Moore are your best options if their teams let them go. There’s no guarantee either will ever be actually particularly good, but each has had Collins-in-2008 type success and isn’t old.
by NewsToTom on Feb 19, 2011 2:47 PM CST via mobile reply actions
Smith & Jackson
Unless I am totally mistaken, I believe both won’t be available. I read somewhere where their head coaches have stated thtat they are keeping these guys, but it might just be a ploy to increase their worth,
Thus the "if their teams let them go"
I don’t expect either to hit the market, but A.Smith might (I think there’s a good chance Harbaugh’s comments were smoke-screening and the 49ers take a QB).
Gradkowski isn't terrible.
I wouldn’t mind if they gave him a shot. Hasselbeck would be nice but the Seahawks seem pretty intent on resigning him. I still think Troy Smith can be a decent QB in the NFL. Nobody on that list excites me but these 3 wouldn’t be bad.
its funny how every one is get this in the draft trade for him we need the bla bla nla anyone even think we might not have the NFL next year if things dont shape up we wont need to disscuss this u guys are all 30-50 year old guys who sit on there butt and drink beer and watch Football ya when there is no NFL next year what u going to do then?
u may say im trying to start somthing here that may be true but i know more bout football than anyone of u
My opinion
I think you must bring back Kerry Collins – he’s a good backup and he knows the system.
Players on this list that intrigue me are: Alex Smith, Matt Moore, and Matt Lienart
Nothing against Dowell (maybe he would go back to being offensive asst or something), but I would like to see them go after a more experienced QB coach. Then, this coach and Palmer could really get together and watch film on all these guys and visit with these guys and decide who fits the system best. I go back to when Jon Gruden took over the Raiders and he did something similar with then journeyman Rich Gannon. He picked his guy who he felt fit his system and was very successful.
Trades
I think the best scenario is still a trade. I think this team is closer than people give us credit for competing for a playoff spot. The one missing thing is the right QB.
Kevin Kolb – I think he could be had for a 2 this year and a 2 next year (same as what Atlanta got for Matt Schaub), and I think he would be totally worth it
Kyle Orton – I think he could be had for a 4 this year. If you draft him, I do think you have to draft a development guy at 2 this year
there really are quite a few of these I could live with
Bulger, Gradkowski, Troy Smith, Alex Smith, Rex Grossman and Seneca Wallace are all options that I have no problem with.
Get 'em.

Volek.
I always thought he was a Helluva backup during his stint with the titans and I really thought he should’ve gotten a chance to be starting qb after McNair left (I understand the FO issues and why he never got that chance, but I still didn’t like how it all went down). Billy never showed what I would exactly characterize as excellence under center, but he managed games quite well and if I remember correctly, he was pretty accurate. Not the biggest arm, but accurate, zippy passes. As a career backup, its very possible his arm’s still in good shape and the accuracy is still there.
All that being said, I know the chances of this happening are slim to none. But that’s what’s great about the off-season, so many possibilities and I can let my imagination run wild.

Hasselbeck would be a great addition for 2 years to help mentor/teach...
…a rookie we pick up in round 2 if we go that direction. I’m not sure if Seattle is willing to let him get to the open market though. Lots of teams will be in the mix for this list so the Titans will have to jump when the time comes. Sounds like they are going to be proactive this season. I hope that is true. Munch has my household excited so far. I know I’m not alone there either.
Man, I sure miss Jim Shwartz...
