Tennessee Titans Daily Links: At Least Something About The Titans Is Indestructible Edition
Best read I've found this morning: this profile of T-Rac from The Times Daily in Florence Alabama. Seriously, it's a pretty good read covering the man inside the costume, Pete Nelson, and his love for playing the role. Of course, Adrian McPherson probably disagrees...
Frank Bush is still in the mix to be the Titans' LB coach. I'd seriously doubt any offer is extended until the defensive coordinator spot is filled though. Munch will want to build some consensus with the DC when it comes to the staff he'll have, and that's a wise move.
I don't know why this NFL ad featured tons of Simpsons characters with various NFL jerseys. Any good Simpsons fan knows Springfield is Titans country!
Annie Johnson of the Nashville Business Journal examines the state of the Titans' brand, and rightly finds it indestructible!
Gotta agree with Blaize on this one: if the Titans can't pry Gray loose, they should at least interview Eric Mangini.
Here's a handy chart breaking down the number of Free Agents on each team who are waiting with bated breath to see what happens with the next CBA. Until there's an agreement these guys are stuck in limbo. because the major reason for a CBA is to layout the rules for player contracts and team limitations on signing/trading player contracts.
If Brett Favre really is going on Dancing With The Stars, what's the over/under on how many shows he makes it before the sexual harassment lawsuit is filed? My money is on mid-way through the first episode.
Jeff Fisher's NBA doppelgänger, Jerry Sloan, has retired from the Utah Jazz.

At least the Simpsons put Comic Book Guy in a Titans jersey
The Texans got ignored. Probably because they’re the Texans.
I agree... I think Mangini should be at least interviewed.
And before making any decision on positional coaches on D, he should hire the DC first.
Also… Aditya “Smash” congrats on getting Mike Fisher. He is one of these players that will play his heart out. He is a good person too. He will capture the hearts of Preds fans as he did with us in Ottawa. It’s sad to see him go.

I love that every headline in Nashville lists him as Carrie Underwood's husband

Heck
I would not mind being simply know as Carrie Underwood’s husband :)
by bullrider73 on Feb 11, 2011 11:16 AM CST up reply actions
I think that goes for most of the guys here...
Though, given my choice I’d rather be known as Taylor Swift’s husband.
It frustrates me, personally. I mean, he has a good NHL career, he should be recognized.

It could be... there is no denying the star quality Underwood brings at games.
That was one of the things we assessed too. I mean famour singer coming to watch the Ottawa Senators?? Doesn’t happen too often.
Fans in Nashville seem to like the tough players, and Mike Fisher is one of those guys. He has played through injuries several times, you won’t hear a peep. Sometimes, we would get shocked as to how the team would let him play, it seems he wouldn’t say anything to anyone because he always wants to do what he can for his team. That is the kind of player he is. And it I don’t believe it’s his loyalty to Ottawa. If you see the kind of person he is, you know that he will always do what he can to help.
Also, he is clutch in the playoffs. He is definitely a playoffs player. He has a special skill set that you don’t see with all 2nd centres. I think he is a good fit for Nashville. Our office tends to get over-sentimental and attached to players who are career Senators. I am sure if they didn’t think this was good for Mike, they wouldn’t have gone for it.

Yeah, McNair spoiled Nashville as far as athletes playing through injuries goes.

If Mangini were hired as DC
Then maybe the Titans would stop underachieving on that side of the ball. but is the new head coach that secure in himself to bring in a former head coach onto his staff? that is the question…
I love Fisher
But Ottawa got a first rounder, which is a pretty high return on him.

Realistically it won't be higher than a 20th overall
.. And this draft is really shallow. Fisher brings a lot of intangibles to a team and city. It’s hard to tell yet who got the weaker side of the deal.
by Los Blancos Chicca on Feb 11, 2011 1:08 PM CST via mobile up reply actions
That’s a huge return on him. I was really hoping my Capitals would get him but the asking price is just so high. Though on the nice side, the Preds get a guy with two years left on his contract at a great price against the cap. Think it’s 4mil and 3mil over the next two years

"Do the Titans have a miracle left in them in what has been a magical season to this point? If they do, they need it now. Christie kicks it high and short. Gonna be fielded by Lorenzo Neal at the 25; he dishes it back to Wycheck; he throws it across the field to Dyson. 30, 40, 50, 40, 30, 20, 10, 5, endzone...touchdown, Titans! There are no flags on the field! It's a miracle! Tennessee has pulled a miracle! A miracle for the Titans!"

Oh absolutely
The Preds are loaded with young talent (which is why I would like to see them come to Winnipeg!) and they always do a great job of scouting and drafting guys. I think it works out nicely for both teams. The Preds get a solid player in Fisher and the Sens are able to nab a first round pick to help the re-build along.

Glad I'm not the only one to see the parallels between Fisher and Sloan.
I was thinking about it yesterday. Their careers are very similar right down to the end of their tenures where they both had differences with the player that runs their respective team, VY and Deron Williams.
its funny how every one is get this in the draft trade for him we need the bla bla nla anyone even think we might not have the NFL next year if things dont shape up we wont need to disscuss this u guys are all 30-50 year old guys who sit on there butt and drink beer and watch Football ya when there is no NFL next year what u going to do then?
u may say im trying to start somthing here that may be true but i know more bout football than anyone of u
Draft Andy Dalton
Mangini
I don’t know about Mangini. Seems like a bit of a jerk in the spats he got into with the Patriot’s coach. But that is the impression left by the media and we all know there is a credibility gap when it comes to media impressions.
I think Munchak needs to open up the DC spot to more candidates.
Even if we get Gray, I’m not sure I trust him to a) provide successful schemes, and b) not bail to a better college option in a year or two. Dave McGinnis, I think, would be an awful hire. Munchak’s got to take a risk and hire a non-Titan related guy.

by WinnipegTitanFan13 on Feb 11, 2011 12:05 PM CST reply actions
The only way I see him "bailing" to college, would be if he were offered the DC position at Texas.
I don’t think it’s a “college thing” for him. I think it’s specific to Texas, since he’s been trying to get back to Austin for some time now…
Which could be open sooner than later.
It’s only a matter of time before Manny Diaz gets a HC job somewhere
You're "trust" issues would apply to any DC hire
Hiring anyone is a risk. Whether or not they have been related to the Titans/Oilers any time in the past is irrelevant. And as for Munchak needing to open up his list of candidates: How do you know who is on the list? Just because a beat reporter hasn’t reported a name doesn’t mean he isn’t under consideration.

From Recruitocosm
I’m sure this website doesn’t carry any weight here, but this dude has been nails about every single coaching hire at Texas over the last few months. He obviously has a source on the inside.
I just spoke with someone close to Jerry Gray, in fact it was one of our sources that allowed us to break the Jerry Gray hire in the first place. He says that Jerry Gray has told everyone connected with the Longhorn program that he’s staying at Texas. Now I don’t know if Gray was offered the Titan job or not, I’m just telling you what I was told by someone on the Texas side of the fence. Someone who would know.Link.
This is going to be one of Munchak's first tests
I don’t think McGinnis should get the job just because the top candidate declined.

I don't get why this is such big thing for some of you guys
I can understand not wanting someone that has hung out in the same system for 20+ yrs, etc, but what does it matter if he was a secondary coach here 10+ yrs ago?
Unofficial MCM QB Rating Hater
It's not a HUGE deal to me, it just seems a little like a retread.
I know coaches are going to naturally go for guys they know and are comfortable working with, but all these Oiler/Titans connections make it feel (at least to me) like this is one big former player’s reunion. I’d just like to see them dip outside that ring of coaches who formerly played and/or coached for the team. And maybe Thorchak will on the offensive side of the ball, so I’m not going to get too worked up over this hire if it happens, Gray hopefully would bring some aggression back to the defense that Williams had them at.
Having said that, Gray is my choice over McGinnis if it comes down to that.
Ribs. I had ribs for lunch. That's why I'm doing this.
