Has Jeff Fisher been partially vindicated?
I want to begin this by saying that I am not a Fisher apologist (far from it, actually). I thought it was time for him to leave Nashville (hence my name, NoMoreMustache). There were things he did wrong: he was overly loyal to vets, the whole "Moss and Britt can't be on the field at the same time" thing, franchising Bo Scaife TWICE, etc. etc. I could go on. He needed to leave and I'm generally happy with Munchak and this coaching staff.
That being said, I feel like I am beginning to understand many of his decisions. Think of some of the things that we got on him about: Jared Cook not getting playing time, not playing some of our younger receivers, etc. I'm starting to see why he did those things.
We have a new coaching staff now. New head coach, new offensive coordinator, new receivers coach, new tight end coach. Yet, despite being praised constantly in the offseason, Jared Cook has done nothing. He's been nonexistent. I don't know if it's the coaching staff that doesn't have trust in him now or the QB (although Hasselbeck and Locker both seemed to avoid throwing to him). Regardless, he is not doing something right. I joked in another thread earlier about rehiring Bo Scaife, but honestly, Scaife was a better tight end than Cook is. He could block well and had decent hands. He got some decent yac too. Was he worth two franchise tags? Of course not. But I see why we played him over Cook.
Onto the wide receivers. We got on Fisher quite a bit for not playing our young guys, particularly Damian Williams, Marc Mariani and Lavelle Hawkins. Well, DWill is basically Justin Gage but faster and more athletic. He deserved to start over Gage. However, look at Mariani and Hawkins. Hawkins still doesn't know the effing playbook and Mariani has stone hands. I love Mariani, he seems like a cool dude, but he should not be lining up at WR. Hawkins shouldn't be allowed onto a football field.
There are other things, too.
Like I said, Fisher needed to go, but I can't help but think that at least some of his decisions make more sense now. Thoughts?

I guess partially.
Cook and Hawkins no longer have the Fisher excuse, and they have done diddly squat all year (though Cook should have been playing over Scaife, no doubt about it).

With TitansJonne's disavowal of the Hawk, there's no one left to CAW him back onto the field
In terms of vindicating the ‘stache, it might be a little soon for "i told you so’s"
I joined MCM around the time Fish got the can, so I haven’t seen all of what you guys were angry at him about, but there was more going wrong on the team than not feeding the Cookie Monster and keeping the scrubs off the field.
A lot of what’s being talked about in ExRoyalsFan’s fanpost highlights a lot of points of contention that were addressed by cutting him loose.
And if we hadn’t, i doubt we’d be doing better than 7-6.
I'm a totally serviceable 3rd string MCM commenter.

Fisher has been partially vindicated in my book
You make a good point that both Cook and Hawkins should have never seen the light of day. However, Fisher was the one who formed this roster, so I still have to administer most of the blame to him. He was the one that traded with the Pats to get Cook in the first place. I too have gone through a period of clairvoyance as I now understand why Cook and Hawkins don’t get as much playing time as their talent may warrant. However, it is Jeff’s fault for adding them to our roster in the first place. I’m not sure Bo would come back here, I think there was too much bad blood between the two parties.

Hmmm
My read on it is that Fisher was right about some trees, but wrong about the forest. The change over was clearly good for at least +3 wins this year, IMO.

I completely agree.
"Do the Titans have a miracle left in them in what has been a magical season to this point? If they do, they need it now. Christie kicks it high and short. Gonna be fielded by Lorenzo Neal at the 25; he dishes it back to Wycheck; he throws it across the field to Dyson. 30, 40, 50, 40, 30, 20, 10, 5, endzone...touchdown, Titans! There are no flags on the field! It's a miracle! Tennessee has pulled a miracle! A miracle for the Titans!"

Mariani has stone hands?
WTF? Seriously? W.T.F. Where are you making this assertion from?

He muffs the ball every time he tries to return it, clearly.
Horrible returner. We should put somebody without STONE HANDS out there.

It might be his route running too, but he seems to drop the ball a lot when it's thrown to him. Didn't see it this week, but I've noticed it.
Catching a pass is different than catching a punt or kickoff.

I think it's route running
mainly as he is never passed to. He also had terrific hands in college so I’d almost definitely blame it on route running.

The Titans are having a solid season. And somehow you find reason to praise the former coach?
Even if you don´t like Damian Williams, Cook, Mariani and/or Hawkings, they are playing, so now you get to know how they play and if they are worth anything.
Fisher drafted them but did not give them any chances, therefore he kept useless veterans for way too long. What´s the point of keeping Gage for a few years if you can draft a similar guy (williams, on your oppinion) for less money?
I still have respect for Fisher, but only because of the first part of his stay here (McNair and Eddie era). After that he showed year after year that he can´t evolve or adapt to the changes of the game.
About Scaife, imo Stevens is better than him anyway. And our QB doesn´t throw to TEs often, so there´s no way to know if they could be better or not (both cook and stevens).
"He's an amazing talent. He's probably the most explosive back since Marshall Faulk and Barry Sanders." - Eddie George, about CJ.
Absolutely not
Despite most people’s feelings around here, Jared Cook is a better pass catching TE than Bo Scaife. Looking at FO’s DVOA ratings, Scaife had a -13.3% and -11% DVOA his last two years with the Titans (his “franchise” years). The last two years (including this year), Cook has a +23.6% and +4.6% DVOA rating. Cook has NOT been a bust and has been better than Scaife at much less the cost.
Damian Williams has been a little off-and-on but he has made plays…and let’s not even act like he is worse than Justin Gage. Lavelle Hawkins has been a disappointment, but it’s one thing to find out a young player is a disappointment than it is to know an old vet is going to be a disappointment (Gage). And, Mariani has had such limited time at WR that you cannot make any judgements about him as a receiver.
Jerry Gray is a 1000x times better than Chuck Cecil. And, if Fisher was still coach, then I doubt we would see Ayers, Casey, Klug, and McCarthy playing as much as they are now. Fisher has not been vindicated at all…if anything, Munchak is winning more games this year with brand new coordinators and systems while having no offseason, rookies playing at important positions, an old “washed-up” QB, CJ being ineffective, Britt’s injury, etc. Fisher is the same as he always has been…a coach who didn’t adapt.

While over-loyalty to friends
definitely plagued fisher, I have yet to be convinced that it won’t also plague Munchak. Probably just goes with the territory for all of them. Hard to take the better guy over the guy that’s pretty good and is your pal.

the teams doing as well or better than most years with fisher only with a rookie headcoach
how is that vindication?
KC fans are apparently considering a promotion......
…..from consistently 6-10 to consistently 7-9/8-8.
Look elsewhere, KC fans. Fisher is not a coach for the modern game; he still prefers the “Game Manager,” aged QB, putting the defense on the field at every possibly opportunity, and trying to sit on a FG lead by attempting to run out the last 15:00 of the clock.
He also plays favorites to such an extent that it can hamper team progress.
I was a pessimist until Fisher finally got Munched!
Finally, a new direction and hope for the future!

Am I missing something,
I thought that at least 60% of the reason Fisher was fired/left, was because he couldn’t deal with our QB situation and kept sticking Kerry in when he clearly couldn’t cut it, and even if he didn’t like Vince (he wasn’t good enough anyway) he could have signed a better backup qb who wouldn’t completely ruin the team if he had to play.
All the things you guys are talking about, were just minor annoyances with Fisher. Not the reason he lost his job. So he might be vindicated for those smaller issues but they weren’t the most important issues for the team
Speechless
Almost! fisher had some issues. I liked him and bud adams strapping him with VY didn’t help. I just want to win. Go Titans.
