Falcons 23 Titans 17: Grading the Defense

Stay connected for news and updates

ATLANTA, GA - NOVEMBER 20: Tony Gonzalez #88 of the Atlanta Falcons pulls in a touchdown reception against Jordan Babineaux #26 of the Tennessee Titans at Georgia Dome on November 20, 2011 in Atlanta, Georgia. (Photo by Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images)

The run defense got beat up by Michael Turner. He was impossible to tackle, apparently, and ended the day with 100 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries. I think about 75 of those yards came after contact.

Grade: D

The pass defense was terrible. Tony Gonzalez had his way with them to the tune of 5 catches for 74 yards and a touchdown. He would have had 15 catches for 150 yards and 5 touchdowns if Barrett Ruud played the whole game.

Matt Ryan ended the day 22 of 32 for 316 yards and a touchdown. It was one of those days where it just felt like the Falcons could get yards whenever they wanted them. That was never more evident than when Ryan found Harry Douglas for a 6 yard gain on 3rd and 6 to put the game away.

All of that does not even mention the seven catches that Roddy White had for 147 yards.

Grade: D
