PFF on Colin McCarthy's Performance Against the Panthers
Each week Pro Football Focus does a feature called re-focused where they look at interesting things from each game. This week in the Titans vs. Panther refocused, they highlighted the play of Colin McCarthy:
t’s safe to say we’re not big Barrett Ruud fans here at PFF with his -11.0 grade on the year fully earned with poor grades across the board. So I was particularly intrigued to see how his backup would fare in the starting lineup with him out injured. Colin McCarthy (+2.4) wasn’t perfect by any means with two missed tackles in the run game but he was a pleasant surprise. In coverage however he allowed just two completions for 15 yards and as a pass rusher he registered a hit and a pressure on 12 rushes. Despite those two missed tackles, he still managed to finish the game with four defensive stops. It will be interesting to see if McCarthy can keep a hold of the starting job when Ruud returns from injury.
Fans at LP Field should start a "Let Him Play" chant in two weeks if Barrett Ruud is out there playing.

Good idea on the "Let him play", but would that be too long or whatever?

i am just asking for verification....
is ruud a son of or son of a best friend of anyone on the coaching staff?
Biggie and Tupac are alive. Jeff Fisher is a great NFL coach.

I can't imagine that Munchack will pull a Fisher and go with Ruud after the performance that McCarthy put together against the Panthers.
However, I think Munchack is smart by not naming McCarthy the official starter yet. After all, we did just beat the Panthers. I think this week will be a good gauge of what McCarthy can do against future HoFer in Tony Gonzelez and Pro bowler Michael Turner.

not yet
one game is not an accurate gauge. It’s safe to say that Barrett Ruud is not our long-term answer- it is also safe to say that Colin McCarthy isn’t necessarily the answer
Another important thing
His style of play is infectious. He brings an energy and swagger that you won’t see on the stat sheet.
I'm not sure how you know Ruud isn't a good leader.
"Do the Titans have a miracle left in them in what has been a magical season to this point? If they do, they need it now. Christie kicks it high and short. Gonna be fielded by Lorenzo Neal at the 25; he dishes it back to Wycheck; he throws it across the field to Dyson. 30, 40, 50, 40, 30, 20, 10, 5, endzone...touchdown, Titans! There are no flags on the field! It's a miracle! Tennessee has pulled a miracle! A miracle for the Titans!"

Have you heard Cortland Finnegan say anything about him?
Like Cortland praised Collin?
Who on our team has ever said anything good about our MLB? Name me some names. Also, I can say the same thing to you. I’m not sure how you know Ruud is a good leader?
GO TITANS!!!
I don't know that he's a good leader, but I'm not the one making baseless claims. You are.
If anyone asks Cortland about Ruud in a press conference after a blowout win, I guarantee you he’ll have nothing but good things to say. McCarthy was in a unique situation, being a rookie MLB starting his first game, and he played well, so he got a lot of attention. Great for him. That doesn’t mean that Ruud is now magically not a leader.
Again, I have no idea what kind of leader Ruud is. But neither do you.
Ruud sucks enough that we don’t really have to drum up things to criticize about him for. There are plenty of actual things that we know about him to criticize him for.

Yeah, Ruud hasn't played well but I don't think it's fair to say that.

Agreed, I'm not even sure McCarthy is a leader, but he does bring energy
He doesn’t need to be a leader. Cort is doing that pretty well

I've been thinking this the whole season
And I’m pretty sure I’ve said it a few times on here..
C.Mac doesn’t have to be great to be better than Ruud. He doesn’t even really have to be that good at all to be the best MLB we’ve had in years. Tully was a run stopper all the way. A tackle machine. But he didn’t make any big plays at all and he was way less than average in pass coverage. Ruud is, well, just bad in all facets. I’ll give him one credit- he gets to his spots in coverage pretty good. Thing is, once he gets there, he can’t bat the ball or tackle the pass catcher. He gets blown up by RBs in the hole, and thats if he actually gets his gap assignment right and is even in the hole to get blown up.
C.Mac has to do a very simple two things to be the best MLB we’ve had in a very long time. 1. Be consistent. Know his gap/zone/man assignments and get there on 9/10 plays. 2. Make the tackle when he gets to his spot.
We don’t need him to force fumbles or pick off passes to greatly improve our D. We need him to tackle the TEs that Tully couldn’t cover and we need him to plug the holes that Ruud either doesn’t get to or gets blown up in. Thats the two most basic skills for a MLB IMO.
Locker has a receiver either side;
Locker fumbles the snap;
Picks it up, sprints out to the right;
Looking;
Fires deep downfield
MAN IS WIDE OPEN!!
TOUCHDOWWWWWN TITANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
