Nice News & All
I have been reading here at MCM for a few years now, and love the community. The only issue I have comes on nights like last night. I fully understand that Schaub being out for the year can only be good news for the Titans. However, winning the division or even making the playoffs still remains a reach. The Titans have made strides this year, delivering great efforts against Carolina and Baltimore, but realistically it will take 10 wins to make the playoffs.
When Peyton Manning was out for the season, we called the division ours. When Gerrard was cut, we called it ours, and when Andre Johnson was ruled out against us a few weeks back, we called it ours. Every fan loves to play the win, loss, win, win, loss, loss, game, and I do too. However, realistically the Texans are sitting at 7 wins right now, they have a relatively easy schedule the rest of the way, and barring a bad loss in a game against Jax or Indy where they will be heavily favored, they will most likely have the tie breaker over the Titans.
The Titans toughest stretch of the schedule is coming up right now, and the AFC wild card seems to be wide open. If they can beat one more of their NFC opponents, and hold serve against Buffalo, I like their chances to be in the hunt week 17. Before, Shaun Smith comes in with forecasts, or bloggers pop bottles, can we please try and keep a little bit of perspective.
I love all of ya here at MCM. Just had to get this off of my chest.
Best.

we share the same opinion
when something bad happens to another team the fans forget that you still need to win to go to the playoffs…the problem with the Titans this year has been inconsistency. I believed we could get to the playoffs before Schaub was hurt, and now is a little bit more possible..but the big thing that need to happen is the Titans playing consistently good.

You left one word off your comment, Knox.
“Titans playing consistently good….DEFENSE”. I believe it was the play of our defense that was the main reason we won against Carolina. And….if the Texans do have any chance of making the playoffs this year, it will be their DEFENSE that gets them there. If we play the kind of defense that we played Sunday…for the rest of the season…we’ll be just fine!! And BTW, thank you titanfannyc for keeping us grounded…we all need that.

Carolina had a bad defense
and a good ofense so yes agaist carolina what we realy needed was for the defense to step up because the ofense was going to put some points anyway…but agaist a team with a good defense you need your whole team to play good.
last game the ofense was 1-9 on 3rd down at a certain point…that wont give us wins agaist good teams
TOUCHDOWN...GUESS WHO...KENNY BRITT!
Good point.
I preach soooo much DEFENSE…sometimes I forget about scoring. I guess it’s cause I know our offense is OK, and with a dominating “D”…that’s all it has to be. Just score once a qtr…pepper in a few field goals….BUT MOSTLY…and I can’t stress this enough…DO NOT turn the ball over.

Screw it, I'm ignoring your entire post and staying blindly optimistic!
Seriously though, I don’t get why people complain about other people’s optimism.
You have to realize that when people get excited about these things and proclaim the division is ours, of course in the back of their minds they know it can go wrong. You don’t need to tell us that.
Would you rather we have no hope in the season when things good for the Titans happen? Would you rather everyone just go “Hey, Manning is out, but we suck too bad to win the division”? Do you just want to see everyone depressed, bored, and unexcitable, just so long as they’re “realistic”?
I don’t get it.

No.
I think that evaluating the state of our football team with a realistic perspective is important. I like our team a lot, and in particular like where we are headed. I just think blind optimism borders on stupidity. I admittedly thought that Tennessee was going to beat New England when we lost 59-0, and have not predicted them to lose in a game. However, the large body of work of the franchise, has been outstandingly mediocre over since they lost to Baltimore in the playoffs 3 years ago.
Well Jeff Fisher always was the master of going 8-8

I prefer keeping a perfect balance of blind optimism and realism

Nice points, we all sure did act like that.
We can’t count our chickens before they hatch. Bottom line, Produce TITANS, play like we did last week, and we are golden!
GO TITANS!!!
