Fantasy Football Week 8: Waiver Wire Edition
This is the new waiver wire edition I've moved to earlier in the week to give you guys the chance to actually pick these guys up! Here we go....
Michael Jenkins - WR Vikings
He has been one of the more consistent receivers in Minnesota and Christian Ponder appears to be an upgrade at the QB position. He's currently owned in only 2.6% of ESPN fantasy leagues.
Bernard Scott - RB Bengals
It looks like Benson will only have a one game suspension and I believe it'll be against the Seahawks. Either way it bumps Scott up to the role of starter, so he's worth a look if you need a running back to make it through a bye week. Scott is only owned in 4% of ESPN fantasy leagues.
Delone Carter - RB Colts
Addai aggravated his hamstring injury which should open the door for more carries for Carter. He did well against the Saints this last week, but they are the Saints. This week the Colts go up against the Titans. The Titans have been really bipolar with how they've been playing lately. He's worth a look if you're starving at RB. Carter is owned in 16.9% of ESPN fantasy leagues.
DeMarco Murray - RB Cowboys
He blew up this last week against the hapless Rams. He ran for 253 yards on 25 attempts and scored a touchdown. He's definitely worth taking a look at, especially with Jones being injured and the next game being against the Eagles, who've been quite generous the run games thus far. He's owned in 34.2% of ESPN fantasy leagues.
Ryan Torain/ Roy Helu, Jr. - RB Redskins
Hightower is done for the season with a torn ACL. Chris Cooley is out for the season and Santana Moss is out for at least one month with a broken hand. All that means a butt-load more carries for these two guys. Which one comes out on top? Good question... I think it'll alternate weeks. I for one, favor Helu... but that's just me being bias. Grab one of these guys, as they both should be good pick ups. Helu is owned in 15.6% of all ESPN leagues while Torain is owned in 96.7%...
Jabar Gaffney - WR Redskins
Santana Moss is gonna be out for at least one month. That moves Gaffney up to the #1 receiver spot. With Chris Cooley also out, Gaffney is definitely worth a look. He is owned in 6.6% of all ESPN fantasy leagues.
Fred Davis - TE Redskins
He's legitimately the number one TE with Chris Cooley out. Given all the other injuries and the QB situation, plus the fact that he's been quite productive already, this is a good pick up. He is currently owned in 79.1% of all ESPN fantasy leagues.
Visanthe Shiancoe - TE Vikings
An upgrade at QB could really help him out. He has been real quiet until this last game when Ponder hit him in the endzone. He is most certainly worth a look. He is owned in 12.9% of all ESPN fantasy leagues.
Forgive the large amount of Redskins... They just got riddled with injuries. See you all later this week when I put out Starters and Benchers!

Yo, Justin, have a question:
Due to injuries and bye week, I’m hurting at WR this week. Would you drop Jackie Battle for Jenkins or Gaffney? Maybe even Demaryius Thomas or Braylon Edwards?
The Force is with you, young SkyLocker, but you are not a Jedi... yet!
If you have to drop Battle
I would do it for Jenkins. He’s been putting up a lot of yards and getting in the endzone despite his lack of receptions. I think they’ll increase with Ponder behind center. I’m not a fan of any receiver being thrown to by Tebow…. yet.
Cool :)
this is a good fantasy post. valuable to the middle of the season to fill injuries and/or byes!
i missed out on a few of these pickups this week (Jenkins and Murray… but there are probably less competitive leagues out there where someone can use this info to better their team.

Good stuff Justin, but I bet a lot of people picked up Murray before last week. He’s now a must-start guy to me

My waiver pickup for last week was Montario Hardesty.
This week it has been Visanthe Shiancoe (even before I read this post!).
I hope he works out just as well.
"Do the Titans have a miracle left in them in what has been a magical season to this point? If they do, they need it now. Christie kicks it high and short. Gonna be fielded by Lorenzo Neal at the 25; he dishes it back to Wycheck; he throws it across the field to Dyson. 30, 40, 50, 40, 30, 20, 10, 5, endzone...touchdown, Titans! There are no flags on the field! It's a miracle! Tennessee has pulled a miracle! A miracle for the Titans!"

Question
I’ve been offered Ahmad Bradshaw for Jeremy Maclin. My current WRs, besides Maclin, are Miles Austin, Santonio Holmes, Michael Jenkins (picked up today!), Jabar Gaffney, and Robert Meachem on the bench. My RBs are Chris Johnson, Ray Rice (CJ was my keeper so I was still able to get Rice in the first round), Ryan Matthews, and Reggie Bush on the bench.
I hesitate to give up Maclin, since he’s been by far the most consistent of my WRs. But I need some sort of insurance in case CJ doesn’t get out of his slump, or if heaven forbid I need to trade him. I’m inclined to do it, but I’m just throwing it out there.
"In Greek mythology the Titans were greater even than the gods. They ruled their universe with absolute power. Well that football field out there tonight, that's our universe. Let's rule it like Titans."
I would try to make him sweeten the deal
That’s not exactly fair to you. Bradshaw did blow up this last game, but he hasn’t been huge before then. Maclin has been really consistent at the receiver position. I reply to that by asking for more. You also have Ryan Matthews. Matthews plus Ray Rice equals a pretty good running back core so I’m not even sure it’s worth you giving up your most consistent receiver for an inconsistent back when you’ve got some pretty decent ones there.
