The Tennessee Titans Are Looking to Add a Wide Receiver
The Tennessee Titans are looking to trade for a wide receiver. I have heard that Mike Reinfeldt has been on the last phone exploring possibilities- including talks with the Green Bay Packers. My guess there would be that James Jones is the target, but the Packers are in a position to demand a pretty high price for him because they don't need to move him.
Jason La Canfora mentioned Jericho Cothchery as a possibility today on NFL Network. I hate that idea. If they wanted Cotchery, they should have made a bigger play for him in August when he was a free agent. Sure, they weren't counting on Kenny Britt missing most of the season, but it was pretty foolish of them to think that he was going to play 16 games.
Plus there is the fact that Cotchery doesn't have a catch for the Steelers this season.
Another possibility being tossed around out there is Brandon Lloyd in Denver. Lloyd would be better than Cothcery for sure.
You always have to wonder what the price will be, but keep in mind that there is a really good chance the Titans will be getting a third round compensatory pick for losing Jason Babin. Giving up a three isn't idea, but they might have an extra one when the draft rolls around.

doubt we'll find a 1 at this point
best we could do is another #2 or #3… DWill hasn’t been too bad opposite Hands, either. if we don’t go out and get someone really interesting i’d rather stick with what we got. but i’m sure we’d just get what we usually get… guys who have never been more than a #3 on a team.
Ughh
I hope our FO doesn’t pull a normal Titans FO move and get someone who is washed up or someone who has never shown themselves to be even halfway decent.

Depends on how much we can rely on Kenny
Do we believe that he’ll be healthy throughout next year and into the future? If so, then look for someone like Cotchery to accompany Washington. If we think that Kenny might need a year or two to get back to speed, perhaps trading a third and a member of the secondary forLloyd is the best choice. All up to the FO

Interesting...
If we can get Lloyd that would be spectacular IMO.. This year we could use Lloyd on one side running deep, DWill/Hawk on the other as the possesion guy, and Hands in the slot where he can use his shiftiness and speed to his advantage.
Then that would set us up gorgeously for next year. Lloyd as a Moss-esque field stretcher, Hands as a Welker-esque slot guy, and Britt as a Megatron-esque kick your ass no matter how you match him up guy? Yes please…

I think he could be just as good as Finley or Gates. He just hasn’t shown up except on a couple passes through five games so far. Needs more consistency.
Also, Lloyd on one side, Hands on the other, Cook in the slot, Stevens at TE would be pretty beastly…

James Jones with one of the best offenses in the NFL and one of the best QBs in the game is still only meh.
Brandon Lloyd would not be bad… but he doesn’t give us the #1 we are looking for. We would have two #2 receivers starting (possibly 3 with Avery)… if we are going to trade something (especially a 3rd round pick) we should be looking from someone better IMO.

we arent going to be able to get a #1 with a 3rd round pick so...
getting a guy like Lloyd who is Denver’s #1 for a 3rd is a steal in my book, because if he comes he and preforms then we resign him and then you will have Britt back next year and Wash. Then Hawk and DWill will be battle to stay on the team in camp as the #4 or 5.

We were all arguing about the Chicken or the Egg
(aka CJ vs Oline)
and someone pointed out that if CJ is not injured and we cut him before next season starts we’d end up only giving him like 2 mil this year and then his bonus(~10m) as opposed to the 30m guaranteed/~56m overall.
Which then lead to a whole CUTZ CJ!!! deal and it just kind of spun out of contol from there in normal MCM fashion.

If he’s on the roster Wk 1 next year then we have to pay his full salary next year plus the bonus of his full contract or something like that. I don’t know the exact numbers but what we pay him goes up exponentially if we don’t cut him before next season starts.

I'm just tired of this dance
We just brought in Avery and yes we just had an off game but I just don’t feel like our receivers we have right now are that bad. I just wonder who we’d get that would be good that would be worth the trade? If they aren’t a big gun, why bother?
We'll have plenty of holes to shore up in the draft.
And with our track record on selecting receivers I’d rather get someone with experience.
by ElectricScissors on Oct 11, 2011 9:38 AM CDT up reply actions
You make a good point...
But we don’t have that many holes.
Safety
WR?
LB
OL
DE
Those spots aren’t all empty and hurting. I think the Big Three are LB, OL, Safety.
That doesn’t seem like a lot of holes to me, though it’ll definitely make us a lot stronger team next year. And with an actual off-season, we’ll be posed to make another journey to the post season.
why would denver give up Lloyd?
he’s their #1 guy. i just don’t see them giving him up unless they get a lot back. probably more than we’re willing to give.
if they are willing to give up a 3rd for him we should do it.
there is always that chance for us to get him to think about resigning here, and if he were to walk we would get a comp pick for him just like we will get for moss next year.

La Canfora said it on the air yesterday
I was told the same thing yesterday afternoon by someone “with knowledge of the situation”
Titans Blogger at Music City Miracles even though gramsey hates it.
Where's all this Lloyd talk coming from?
Denver’s not just going to give him away. As they transition to Tebow they’re going to want to surround him with the best weapons they can. At least then they can make an accurate assessment of his ability to succeed as their QB.
If they trade their best receiver for a pick, it’s not going to help him any. If he does struggle, it’ll be harder for them to figure out how much of that is due to him not having decent receivers, therefore making the decision about whether or not to draft a new QB even more difficult.
So Lloyd is probably not a realistic possibility.
I would like to see if they could get someone like Cruz or Manningham from the Giants, or maybe even our old friend Derrick Mason from the Jets, who could probably easily be had for a 3rd round pick and could give us a couple years of solid play. Or maybe the Colts might be willing to ship Garcon?
Go Titans! Go Magic!
"Yeah, Becky... I got f***in Snapples"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IBRL7D0wcXM
problems
cruz & manningham aren’t going anywhere. they’re thin enough at WR as is. Mason chose the Jets over the Titans, who were both going after him it sounded like. I mean ultimately it’d be up to the team in a trade scenario, but i don’t think he’d be a happy camper if he came here now after choosing not to be here. And Garcon is about the only receiver that Painter has developed any sort of rapport with, and since it looks like he’ll be the starter there until further notice, i doubt they ship him either.
but yeah i agree, no way Denver ships Lloyd out. I don’t really see any team being in a situation to trade any halfway decent receiver, outside maybe James Jones in GB like a few people have said. But that’d just be getting yet another #3/#4 guy… which the Titans have plenty of right now. and always have plenty of. bleh.
I can see Miami dismantling their squad for better chance at Suck4Luck
Brandon Marshall would be a wonderful addition
This is a good move by the FO (something we've been able to say a lot lately)
Last game showed that Hasselbeck needs more weapons. At the level he’s been playing, more weapons can only lead to more success.

I actually really like Brandon Lloyd
I wouldn’t mind giving a 3rd round pick for him.
Isn't Lloyd in the final year of his contract?
We don’t need to be trading ANY picks for a 11 game rental. Plus Lloyd is a mediocre receiver that benefited from the Broncos throwing it a TON last year. No thanks.

That is why they would be wiling to give him.
You wouldn’t give up a 3 when you will probably have another 3 for a shot at getting in the postseason?
Titans Blogger at Music City Miracles even though gramsey hates it.
Its total speculation that we get a 3 as a comp.
I don’t particularly give a damn about this year. We aren’t a superbowl team, with or without Lloyd. Playoffs are nice, but if we won’t contend in them its all hot air. We need to be stockpiling picks so that we can build a strong team around Locker for the future. I don’t think Lloyd for 11 games is worth losing a good player for our future teams.

That's my problem with Lloyd, the type contract he'll ask for.
I wouldn’t say he’s mediocre, but he’s not going to be elite either.
The Force is with you, young SkyLocker, but you are not a Jedi... yet!
I mean i agree...
but can you name a better Titans WR core than that would be? I can’t. at least since Mason/Bennett
You never know who is willing to sell for the right price
The draft is now worth even more than it ever did before. Mainly for the teams not the rookies, because they now aren’t as large of an investment for teams. In the past teams have been burdened with HUGE rookie contracts for 1st rounders, now they are easily much more affordable.
If they are looking to spend some picks they need to look to teams that are rebuilding, teams that are losing badly, teams with QB issues, or teams with unhappy players.
A few that would fit the description are: (this has nothing to do with if they are available)
Reggie Wayne – Getting old and “slower” , hands like a priest, but i doubt the clots would ever deal him
Dwayne Bowe – Physical slower receiver, a good target, but a young and a young player that the team wouldn’t part with
Chad Ochocinco – He’s hardly made a noise in NE, but then again Brady spreads the ball just like Brees and just like Rodgers they can take “average” WRs and turn them into probowlers I think Chad has more game left than this season tells, and NE LOVES to trade for draft picks.
Brandon Marshall – A perfect “Britt” clone even with the off the field issues. Although Miami is about to fire their coach, and lost their starting QB, its hard to see them walking away from one of the better wideouts in football.
Brandon Lloyd – You mentioned him earlier, I would agree he’s a great WR, but he is also basically a clone of nate washington without all the drops. A good threat WR, but not the possession type we need.
Hushmanzadaadaddaaaeasdzada – Is he even playing? Can we atleast kick the tires on this guy, he fits the big target with good hands that is required of a possession WR. Ih hes a free agent he’s practically free.
Pierre Garcon – He’s been unhappy in Indy in the past, but something tells me hes worth 10x today what he was at the beginning of the season. Lights out speed with a strong build and some nice hands. I think the guy is going to end up a nice replacement for Wayne at some point.
Terrell Owens – Visions of Carl Pickens, David Givens, Randy Moss….. Although ever since I’ve seen Britt on the field i’ve said to myself “This guy runs like TO, looks like TO, and moves like TO” Sure he’s got locker room issues, but we have a strong leader now, and apparently according to the experts he is seeing life in a new light and wanting to go out drama free so his legacy isnt one of being a psycho, but its a little late for that. Kick the tires I say, he won’t be expensive, he’s still a beast and if he steps outta line drop the hammer on him and see you in canton.
Hawk, Williams, Mariani are good WRs but look lost out there. Cook showed why it took so long to get him on the field and why Fisher didn’t play him. To run a bad route once, ok… to run a couple bad routes, ouch… but to constantly look lost out there and have balls thrown at you when you aren’t even looking = WARNING… Dude has stupid hands, jumping, speed, ability, but his head aint right at this moment. He’s a “combine” stud at this point (Chris Henry anyone?)
We will be ok with what we have at the end of the day guys, but its time to be positive. 6-10 last season and looking poised for a 4-12 season this year and here we sit 3-2 and on top of the AFC South. Texans lost Andre for a few and he will suffer most of the season because hamstrings don’t heal fast and fully. Mario Williams out of season, couple that with them being the Texans and I am one happy Titans fan, just hoping we can make a run to the playoffs and enjoying the ride as we try.
Cheers

My big question
Will the Titans start have to retooling/rebuilding the Oline after Hasselbeck gets his 2-3 years in here? Roos & Stewart will be on the decline once Locker starts in 2014 … Harris, Scott and Amano could be long gone before then … I feel like taking a tackle in either the 1st, 2nd round of the 2012 or 2013 is imperative for the longevity of the Oline and if Locker is ever going to ‘ease right in’ to the position.
I’m pretty sure Munchak (now Mathews) has never had a first round lineman to work with and it’s been 6 years since we took a 2nd rounder (Roos, ’05)
I guess HOF lineman only come around once every so often but it seems like munchak deserves a stud to work with for once instead of coaching up projects all the time.

For Vick to miss some time. Apparently the Eagles’ back up isn’t too good (forgot his name). They’ll talk themselves over here LOL
Too soon to be talking about a Superbowl? Ummm... Ok

Didn't Tommie play WR in college? Or was it HS?

Maybe they'd try that in OTA's...
they need a receiver with experience mid-season.
yeah, but think about this JJ used to play TE!

Yes i do, give him a # that allows him to play DE and TE
just like Jared Allen used to do.
then move cook to WR and situational TE/FB

I guess were on a different page here...
I was still talking about TC, but I really don’t see JJ doing that either unless it is in an extremely limited number of plays. I think we need a better alternative.
Quite true
Just getting a bit carried away with the thought of having the fastest team in football.,, Oh no!! Al Davis is talking to me from the beyond! (RIP Al)
I doubt the Eagles would take the call. I also question whether a team that is probably at least a year or two from serious contention should be looking too hard to trade draft picks. On the other hand, there’s no harm in thinking outside the box and our FO is looking quite smart these days

I hear ya...
I just don’t think Tommie is a viable option at this point.
I think you bring up a good point.
I like that the FO and coaching staff are actually looking to make upgrades mid-season, but this is a team that we never thought would make the playoffs this year. I know the boys are playing a lot better brand of football than I thought they would be at this point in the season, and the division is in turmoil but even if we make the playoffs how far do we really go against the elite AFC teams???
I too think we are a couple of years from really making a push, if that is the case why not save the pick?

Which underperforming teams are staring at a serious Cap Crunch?
Maybe we could “help them out” by relieving them of a top WR? Eagles?.
Too soon to be talking about a Superbowl? Ummm... Ok
What ever they do.....
They should consider the fact that Kenny Britt may never be the same again. He may never have the explosiveness that allows him to do the things he does. They need to target a young stud whether it’s this season via trade / free agency or in April’s draft. They can’t look for a stop-gap veteran, they need somebody with plenty of tread on the tires.
justin blackmon....
alshon jeffrey or mohammed sanu (another rutgers prospect on vergeof breaking many of britt’s school records)

Cotchery
IIRC, Cotchery has being injured till this last week or so. Now he has to wait for someone to play themselves out of a playing spot and no one has done that yet. If Ward or Sanders go down with injuries then expect to see Cotchery playing.
